HiLook Hikvision 8MP Pro Series CCTV Kit – 8x Turret IPC-T383H-MU + 16CH PoE NVR (NVR-216MH-C/16P)

Model: HiLook Turret Kit 8MP/16CH 8x AcuSense T383H-MU

Who This Is For

Property managers specifying surveillance across mid-to-large residential or commercial sites will find this kit genuinely well-matched to the task. The HiLook 8MP Pro Series kit pairs 8 x IPC-T383H-MU AcuSense turret cameras with a 16-channel PoE NVR, giving you 4K resolution across every position and a recorder with headroom to double the camera count without swapping hardware. AcuSense human and vehicle classification cuts through nuisance alerts caused by animals and foliage, which matters on sites where motion events are frequent. The 16-port PoE switch built into the NVR-216MH-C/16P means a single Cat6 run to each camera handles both power and data - no separate power supplies, no additional switches for the initial 16 cameras. This kit suits strata complexes, multi-tenancy commercial buildings, school campuses, industrial yards, and larger residential properties where a single installer visit needs to cover a lot of ground.

What This Kit Actually Does

4K Resolution Across All 8 Positions

Each IPC-T383H-MU captures at 8MP (3840x2160), producing footage with enough detail to digitally zoom into a frame and still identify faces, number plates, or clothing at distances a 2MP or 4MP camera cannot resolve. All 8 cameras record at this resolution simultaneously.

AcuSense Human and Vehicle Classification

The cameras use deep-learning AI to separate human and vehicle motion from environmental triggers - blowing branches, rain, insects near the lens. Alerts are filtered at the camera level before reaching the NVR, so event logs stay meaningful rather than filling with false positives.

16-Port PoE Built Into the NVR

The NVR-216MH-C/16P includes a 16-port PoE switch internally. Each camera receives power and transmits video over a single Cat5e or Cat6 run. No separate PoE switch or injectors are needed for the first 16 cameras, simplifying rack and cabinet space considerably on the initial install.

8 Channels Free for Future Expansion

The kit ships with 8 cameras connected to a 16-channel recorder. The remaining 8 PoE ports are immediately available for adding cameras as a site grows or new areas are identified. There is no need to purchase a larger NVR later - the infrastructure is already in place.

Built-In Microphone on Every Camera

The IPC-T383H-MU includes a built-in microphone, recording audio alongside video at each camera position. This supports insurance documentation, incident investigation, and certain compliance requirements without adding separate audio devices to the installation.

Who Buys This Model

  • Strata and Body Corporate Managers: Sites with car parks, common areas, lifts, and building entries where 8 camera positions cover the initial brief and the spare 8 channels handle stairwells or additional floors added to scope later.
  • Commercial Landlords and Retail Centre Owners: Tenanted properties where 4K detail supports insurance claims and the AcuSense filtering keeps after-hours alert volumes manageable for property staff or monitoring services.
  • School and Childcare Facility Managers: Campuses requiring coverage of gates, car drop-off zones, playgrounds, and entry corridors where audio recording and human detection align with duty-of-care documentation requirements.
  • Electrical and Security Installers: Trade professionals wanting a pre-matched camera-and-NVR combination where PoE compatibility, resolution ceiling, and AcuSense integration are already confirmed, reducing configuration time on site.

Honest Assessment

This kit delivers genuine value in the mid-to-upper residential and light commercial segment. The combination of 8MP AcuSense cameras and a 16-channel PoE NVR at this price point is competitive, and the built-in PoE switch removes a common hidden cost in similar kits. AcuSense classification performs well at reducing motion-triggered noise in outdoor environments - it is a meaningful step up from standard motion detection, not a marketing label. The turret form factor suits eaves, soffits, walls, and ceiling mounting without the visibility of a bullet camera, which suits environments where a low-profile install is preferred. What this kit will not do: it does not include optical zoom, so it is not the right choice for monitoring long approaches, car park entrances at distance, or number plate capture on moving vehicles - a PTZ or ANPR-capable system available through Security Australia would be more appropriate for those requirements. Storage drives are not included and will need to be budgeted separately.

Complete Package Contents

Before You Buy

Storage Planning: No HDDs are included in this kit. At full 8MP resolution across 8 cameras, storage consumption is significant. For 30 days of continuous recording, budget for at least 8TB of NVR-compatible surveillance-grade HDD capacity. If motion-triggered recording is used instead of continuous, actual consumption will be considerably lower - but confirm your recording schedule before purchasing drives.

PoE Cable Runs: The NVR-216MH-C/16P's built-in PoE switch supports standard Cat5e and Cat6 runs up to 100 metres per camera. If any camera position exceeds this distance, plan for a mid-run PoE extender or a separate PoE switch closer to that camera. Do not assume longer runs will work - signal loss at 8MP is more disruptive than at lower resolutions.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You need 8 cameras now with room to add up to 8 more without replacing the NVR - the 16-channel PoE recorder handles both phases of the install from day one.
  • Good match if: Your site generates high motion volumes from wind, animals, or passing traffic and you need AI-based filtering to keep alerts actionable - AcuSense human and vehicle classification is built into every camera in this kit.
  • You may need a different model if: Your primary requirement is long-range identification - for example, reading number plates at a car park entry or monitoring a long driveway approach beyond 40 metres. A PTZ kit or a system including ANPR-capable cameras would be more suitable for that application.

Real-World Scenarios

Strata Car Park

8 cameras cover entry ramps, bays, and pedestrian access points. AcuSense filters out passing headlights and trolleys, keeping overnight motion alerts limited to actual human and vehicle activity. Spare NVR channels cover a lobby or lift added to scope later.

Primary School Campus

Cameras positioned at main gate, drop-off zone, playground perimeter, and admin entry. The built-in microphone on each camera supports incident documentation. 4K detail allows identification at wider angles, reducing the number of camera positions needed to cover open areas.

Large Residential Property

Acreage or large suburban homes where perimeter, driveway, front entry, rear yard, and garage all require coverage. The turret housing mounts cleanly to eaves and soffits without the visual bulk of bullet cameras, and a single Cat6 run per position keeps cable management straightforward.

Retail Strip or Small Shopping Centre

Multiple tenancy entries, shared loading areas, and car park covered across 8 camera positions. The 16-channel NVR allows individual tenants to be added to the system later without the landlord replacing core infrastructure. Footage at 8MP supports insurance and police submissions.

Phased Commercial Fitout

An installer commissions 8 cameras on stage one of a commercial build. Stage two adds 4 more cameras to cover a warehouse extension or additional office floor. No NVR upgrade required - the 16 PoE ports and remaining licensed channels absorb the expansion immediately.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need 4K AcuSense coverage across 8 positions today with confirmed headroom for up to 8 additional cameras - all powered and recorded by a single NVR already in the rack.
  • You may need a different model if: Long-range identification, number plate capture, or wide-area tracking is a primary requirement - a PTZ kit or an ANPR-capable camera system would be more suitable and better matched to those use cases.
  • Pairs well with: Surveillance-grade SATA HDDs (2 bays available in the NVR), a UPS battery backup unit to protect the NVR from power interruption, and a managed PoE switch if camera runs exceed 100 metres.

Common Questions

  1. Does this kit include hard drives for recording?

No. The NVR-216MH-C/16P has 2 x SATA HDD bays but ships without drives. You will need to purchase surveillance-grade HDDs separately. At 8MP across 8 cameras recording continuously with H.265+ compression, expect to consume roughly 250-300GB per camera per day depending on scene activity. For 30 days retention, a minimum of 8TB total across the 2 bays is a practical starting point - 2 x 4TB or 2 x 6TB drives are both compatible configurations.
  2. Will this system work with cameras I already own from another brand?

It depends. The NVR-216MH-C/16P is an ONVIF-compatible recorder, so many third-party IP cameras can be added manually via ONVIF profile. However, AcuSense AI alerts, smart search, and plug-and-play PoE auto-detection only function with HiLook and Hikvision cameras. Third-party cameras will record but will not trigger classified alerts or integrate with smart event search on the NVR.
  3. Can I view the cameras remotely on my phone?

Yes. The NVR-216MH-C/16P supports remote access via the Hik-Connect app on iOS and Android. Live view, recorded footage playback, and push notifications for AcuSense human and vehicle events are all accessible from the app. Remote access requires the NVR to be connected to your network with internet access. Hik-Connect uses a cloud relay, so port forwarding is not required for basic remote viewing.
  4. Does the AcuSense detection actually reduce false alarms, or is it just motion detection with a different name?

It genuinely reduces false alarms. AcuSense uses a deep-learning model trained on human and vehicle shapes, running on the camera's own processor rather than on the NVR. The camera classifies the motion target before sending an alert. In outdoor environments with trees, animals, passing shadows, and weather, this typically reduces unwanted motion notifications by a significant margin compared to standard pixel-change detection. The distinction matters most on sites where motion volumes are high and alert fatigue is a real operational problem.
  5. How far can each camera cable run from the NVR?

Up to 100 metres per camera on Cat5e or Cat6 cabling - this is the standard IEEE 802.3 PoE maximum. The NVR-216MH-C/16P's built-in PoE switch operates within this limit. If a camera position is beyond 100 metres, a mid-run PoE extender or a separate PoE switch located closer to the camera is required. Do not stretch cable runs and assume they will perform - 8MP streams are more sensitive to signal degradation than lower-resolution cameras.
  6. Is this kit available through Security Australia with support if I have installation questions?

Yes. This kit is stocked by Security Australia with product support available before and after purchase. The IPC-T383H-MU cameras are part of the HiLook Pro Series range, and technical documentation including quick start guides and configuration notes is available for download from the product page. If you are comparing this kit against other channel counts or camera types, the Security Australia team can assist with system sizing.

Cabling Considerations

  • Cable Type: Cat5e minimum, Cat6 recommended for 8MP streams and longer runs. Use shielded (FTP/STP) cable in environments with high electrical interference such as industrial sites or near switchboards.
  • Max Cable Run: 100 metres per camera from the NVR's PoE port. Beyond 100 metres, use a PoE extender or an intermediate PoE switch - do not attempt to extend PoE beyond the IEEE 802.3 standard distance.
  • PoE Notes: The NVR-216MH-C/16P includes a built-in 16-port PoE switch rated at a total PoE budget across all ports. Avoid connecting all 16 cameras simultaneously at maximum draw without confirming the total PoE budget is not exceeded - this is particularly relevant if future cameras with higher power draw (such as PTZ heads) are added to spare ports.
  • Wiring Tips: Run a dedicated cable to each camera position rather than daisy-chaining. Terminate all runs at a structured patch panel in the same cabinet as the NVR to simplify troubleshooting and future port reassignment. Label each run at both ends at installation time - 16 unlabelled PoE ports become a time cost on every future service call.
