Product Overview
Model: HA-AC-S1
Who This Is For
When a straightforward door access solution is the priority and you need something that works independently without a full server or software licence, the Hikvision HA-AC-S1 is the unit to specify. Designed for small commercial sites, offices, warehouses, and light industrial entries, it combines a card reader and PIN keypad in a single compact terminal rated IP65 for outdoor installation. Electricians and small integrators reach for this model when a client needs controlled entry at a single door or gate without the overhead of a networked access control system. It suits reception entries, server room doors, storerooms, and side gates where reliable standalone credential checking covers the brief. The IP65 housing means it handles exposed wall mounting at building exteriors, car park pedestrian entries, and covered loading dock doors without additional weatherproofing.
What This Terminal Actually Does
Card-Based Entry
Reads compatible access cards to grant or deny entry at the door. Cards replace physical keys, making it straightforward to add or remove user access without changing locks - particularly useful when staff turnover occurs or a card is lost.
PIN Keypad Authentication
The integrated keypad allows PIN-code entry as a credential method. This supports sites where visitors or contractors need temporary access without issuing a physical card, or where dual-factor authentication using both a card and PIN is preferred.
Standalone Operation
Operates independently without requiring a connected PC, server, or access control software licence. User credentials are stored on-device, making this practical for single-door applications where simplicity and low ongoing overhead are the priority.
IP65 Weather Resistance
The IP65-rated housing protects internal components against dust ingress and water jets, making it suitable for exposed outdoor wall mounting. It handles rain-exposed entry points, external gate posts, and uncovered building perimeters without requiring an additional enclosure.
Compact Wall-Mount Form Factor
The terminal's compact profile mounts cleanly on a standard wall or door frame surface. It fits narrow door-side mullions and gate pillars where larger panel-style readers would not be practical, keeping the installation tidy and unobtrusive.
Who Buys This Model
- Small Business Owners: Retail premises, offices, and warehouses with a single controlled entry point who want card-based access without the cost or complexity of a networked system.
- Electricians and Small Integrators: Tradespeople completing single-door access jobs where standalone operation keeps the scope clean - no software configuration, no server, no ongoing licence fee.
- Property Managers: Commercial tenancies and light industrial units needing controlled access to server rooms, storerooms, or plant rooms where individual key management has become impractical.
- Facility Managers at Multi-Tenant Sites: Car park entries, gym rooms, and shared amenity doors where an outdoor-rated PIN or card terminal handles access without disrupting a broader building system.
Honest Assessment
The HA-AC-S1 does its job well within a defined scope. The IP65 rating is genuine outdoor protection, standalone operation keeps installation straightforward, and the combination of card and PIN credentials covers the majority of single-door commercial use cases. For an electrician or small integrator, this is a unit you can wire, configure, and hand over in a single visit. Where it will not serve you is in multi-door environments where centralised user management, audit trails across multiple readers, or time-zone scheduling across a site are required - those applications need a proper networked access controller. It also is not a video intercom and provides no visual verification of who is presenting credentials. If either of those capabilities matters, look at the broader access control and intercom range available through Security Australia. Within its intended scope as a value-series standalone keypad, it is a practical, weatherproof solution priced accordingly.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: The HA-AC-S1 is a standalone unit, meaning it directly controls a door lock output without a central controller. Confirm your lock type (electric strike, magnetic lock, or electric bolt) and that your power supply can support both the terminal and the lock simultaneously. Check the lock output relay rating before connecting heavier magnetic locks, and ensure a suitable power supply is installed within cable distance - this unit does not run on PoE.
Card Compatibility Note: Confirm which card frequency this terminal supports before purchasing cards or programming existing cardholder credentials. Mixing card frequencies across a site causes reader failures that are easy to avoid at the planning stage.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are controlling access at a single outdoor door or gate and need an IP65-rated standalone reader that handles both card and PIN credentials without a network connection or software licence.
- Good match if: The installation is a small commercial premise, storeroom, or server room entry where the priority is replacing physical keys with manageable card credentials at minimal cost and complexity.
- You may need a different model if: You are managing access across multiple doors, require centralised audit logs, need time-zone-based schedules, or want visual verification of users - a networked access control system with a dedicated controller and video intercom would be more appropriate for those requirements.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need a single-door standalone access solution with outdoor-rated IP65 housing and want both card and PIN credentials without a networked controller or software.
- You may need a different model if: You are controlling 2 or more doors, need centralised user management across a site, require time-zone scheduling, or want event logging accessible from a management platform - a networked access control system with a dedicated multi-door controller is the appropriate product type for those requirements.
- Pairs well with: Electric strike, magnetic lock, or electric bolt lock; a regulated 12V DC power supply with backup battery support; and an exit button or request-to-exit sensor on the interior side of the door.
Common Questions
-
Does this terminal need to be connected to a network or PC to operate?
No. The HA-AC-S1 operates as a fully standalone unit with no network connection, PC, or software licence required. Credentials are stored on-device and the terminal directly controls the connected door lock output. This makes it straightforward to install in locations where running a network cable to the door is not practical or desirable. -
Will this terminal work mounted outdoors in an exposed position?
Yes. The IP65 rating means the housing is fully protected against dust ingress and resistant to water jets from any direction. It is suitable for direct outdoor wall mounting on exposed building exteriors, gate posts, and entry points that are not under cover, without requiring an additional weatherproof enclosure. -
Does it support PIN entry as well as card access?
Yes. The HA-AC-S1 includes an integrated keypad that supports PIN-code entry. Depending on how the unit is configured, users can authenticate by card only, PIN only, or card and PIN together for dual-factor access. This provides flexibility for sites that need to grant access to visitors or contractors without issuing a physical card. -
What type of door lock does this terminal control?
The HA-AC-S1 controls a door lock through its relay output. It is compatible with common electrically operated lock types including electric strikes, magnetic locks, and electric bolts. Confirm the relay output current and voltage rating against your chosen lock specification before installation - magnetic locks in particular can have higher current draw requirements. -
Does the HA-AC-S1 run on PoE?
No. This terminal requires a dedicated DC power supply - it does not support Power over Ethernet. A regulated 12V DC power supply should be provided at or near the installation point. If backup access during a power outage is required, a power supply with battery backup capability is recommended. -
Can this terminal be expanded to cover multiple doors later?
Not directly. As a standalone unit, the HA-AC-S1 manages a single door. If your requirements grow to include multiple controlled entry points with centralised user management, you would need to move to a networked access control platform with a multi-door controller. The Security Australia range includes networked access control options if that expansion path is relevant to your project. -
Does this terminal include a built-in camera or video intercom function?
No. The HA-AC-S1 is a card reader and keypad only - it has no camera, microphone, speaker, or intercom capability. If visual verification of who is presenting credentials is a requirement, a video intercom or a separate IP camera positioned at the entry point would need to be installed alongside this terminal.
Cabling Considerations
- Power Cable: Low-voltage DC cable from a regulated 12V power supply to the terminal. Use appropriately rated cable for the current draw of both the terminal and the connected lock combined. Keep cable runs as short as practical to minimise voltage drop.
- Lock Wiring: 2-core cable between the terminal relay output and the electric strike, magnetic lock, or electric bolt. Confirm cable gauge against the lock's current rating - magnetic locks with higher current draw may require heavier gauge cable over longer runs.
- Exit Button: A request-to-exit button or passive infrared exit sensor on the interior side of the door connects to the terminal's exit input. Use standard 2-core low-voltage cable for this run.
- Wiring Tips: Route all cabling inside the door frame or wall cavity where possible to protect against tampering. If surface mounting cable externally, use conduit. Install a door position sensor (reed switch) if monitoring of door-held-open events is required - this connects to the door sensor input on the terminal.
