Hikvision DS-2CD2T66G2H-4I 6 MP ColorVu Hybrid Bullet Camera, 4 mm Lens, 80 m IR (Black & White)
Built as a hybrid bullet camera for sites where both colour detail and long-range night vision matter, the DS-2CD2T66G2H-4I delivers 6MP resolution with Hikvision's ColorVu technology for full-colour imaging in low light, switching to 80m IR when conditions demand it. Requires a PoE switch or injector for power.
Why This Model
- Hybrid colour + IR night vision: The ColorVu sensor produces vivid colour footage in near-darkness, while the 80m IR fallback ensures usable image detail even in complete blackout - covering scenarios where a single night-vision technology would fall short.
- 6MP resolution: Higher pixel count than standard 4MP bullets means more scene detail is captured in each frame, improving the ability to identify faces, plates, and incidents across a wider field of view.
- Fixed 4mm lens: A practical wide-angle choice for car parks, driveways, and building perimeters where a broad view is needed without the cost of motorised optics.

Product Overview
Model: DS-2CD2T66G2H-4L
Who This Is For
For installers and security-conscious property owners who need useful colour footage after dark without committing to a single lighting mode, the DS-2CD2T66G2H-4L delivers genuine flexibility. Its Hybrid Light system lets the camera operate in full-colour mode using a warm supplemental light, or switch to traditional IR for black-and-white coverage at up to 80 m - handy when covert night operation matters more than colour detail. The 6 MP sensor with a 4 mm fixed lens suits medium-range outdoor applications: perimeter fencing, car parks, driveways, loading approaches, and the front elevations of warehouses or commercial properties where a clean wide view at ground level is the priority. The bullet housing is rated IP67, making it a practical choice for exposed outdoor positions where rain, dust, or hosing-down is routine. This is a workhorse outdoor camera built for sites that demand more than basic motion recording.
What This Camera Actually Does
Hybrid Light - Colour or IR, Your Choice
The camera can illuminate the scene with a warm white light for full-colour night footage, or fall back to IR for discreet black-and-white coverage. You choose the mode to suit the site - active deterrence areas benefit from colour; covert monitoring positions benefit from IR.
6 MP Resolution at 4 mm
At 6 megapixels, this camera captures significantly more detail than a standard 4 MP or 1080p unit. The 4 mm fixed lens delivers a wide field of view suited to driveways, car parks, and building frontages where you want broad coverage rather than long-distance zoom.
80 m IR Range
In IR mode, the camera illuminates subjects up to 80 m away. This makes it practical for long driveway approaches, perimeter fence lines, and open yard areas where ambient lighting disappears entirely at night and you still need usable footage.
AcuSense Human and Vehicle Classification
Deep learning-based motion analysis separates people and vehicles from irrelevant triggers like wind, insects, and foliage. Alarm notifications and recording events are filtered to what actually matters, reducing false alerts on NVR systems that support AcuSense.
IP67 Weatherproof Housing
Fully sealed against dust ingress and sustained water jets, the IP67-rated bullet housing handles exposed outdoor positions without additional protection. Eave mounts, gable ends, fence posts, and open yard poles are all viable without shelter requirements.
Who Buys This Model
- Warehouse and logistics site managers: Long IR range and 6 MP detail suit loading dock approaches and yard perimeters where vehicles arrive at night and licence plate or load visibility matters.
- Rural and semi-rural property owners: Zero ambient light at night makes the 80 m IR range a practical requirement; the Hybrid Light mode also supports colour footage on lit driveway sections.
- Commercial installers on mixed-lighting sites: The ability to configure colour or IR mode per-camera means one SKU works across different positions on the same site - lit carparks and unlit rear lanes both covered.
- Car park and petrol station operators: AcuSense vehicle classification generates accurate event logs without constant false alerts from environmental triggers - useful for after-hours incident review.
Honest Assessment
The DS-2CD2T66G2H-4L does two things particularly well: it gives installers genuine choice between colour and IR night modes in a single unit, and the 6 MP sensor produces enough resolution at 4 mm to make car park, driveway, and approach footage genuinely useful for after-incident review. AcuSense classification is a real-world benefit on sites where basic motion detection generates too many false triggers. The IP67 rating means exposed outdoor placement is straightforward. What it will not do is cover large open areas from a single position - this is a fixed-lens bullet, not a PTZ or multi-sensor unit. If your priority is wide-area coverage with fewer camera positions, a panoramic or PTZ model would serve the site better. Available through Security Australia, this is a solid mid-tier outdoor bullet suited to perimeter and approach monitoring where flexible night-mode operation is the primary brief.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: AcuSense classification on this camera requires a compatible Hikvision NVR with AcuSense support to trigger filtered smart events and accurate push notifications. Connected to a standard NVR, the camera still records at full 6 MP quality, but human and vehicle-specific alarm rules will not activate. Confirm your NVR's AcuSense compatibility before specifying this camera for smart-detection workflows.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need outdoor night coverage at up to 80 m and want the option to switch between full-colour and IR modes depending on site conditions or management preference.
- Good match if: Your NVR supports AcuSense and you want to reduce false alarm triggers by filtering events to confirmed human or vehicle movement only.
- You may need a different model if: Your site requires pan, tilt, or optical zoom to track movement or cover a large open area from a single mounting point - a PTZ camera would be a better fit for that requirement.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You want a single outdoor bullet that can be configured for colour night footage or IR-only operation depending on site requirements, backed by 6 MP resolution and 80 m IR range.
- You may need a different model if: Your site involves monitoring a large open area from a single point, or you need to zoom in on distant subjects on demand - a PTZ camera offers pan, tilt, and optical zoom that a fixed-lens bullet cannot match.
- Pairs well with: A Hikvision AcuSense-compatible NVR to unlock smart event filtering, human and vehicle push notifications, and accurate event search across recorded footage.
Common Questions
-
What does "Hybrid Light" actually mean on this camera?
It means the camera has 2 separate illuminators built in - a warm white light for colour footage and an IR array for black-and-white coverage - and you choose which mode it operates in. In ColorVu mode the white light activates after dark and the sensor produces colour images. In IR mode the white light stays off and the IR array illuminates the scene in black and white at up to 80 m. The modes can typically be configured via the camera's web interface or through a connected NVR. -
Will this camera work on a standard PoE switch or NVR PoE port?
Yes. The DS-2CD2T66G2H-4L supports IEEE 802.3af PoE, which is the standard used by most PoE switches and NVR PoE ports. A single Cat5e or Cat6 cable carries both power and network data to the camera. No separate power supply is needed, though a 12V DC input is also available if required. -
Does AcuSense work without a special NVR?
Partially. The camera performs human and vehicle classification on-board regardless of the NVR connected. However, to receive filtered push notifications, trigger smart event rules, and search recordings by target type, your NVR must also support AcuSense. On a non-AcuSense NVR the camera still records at full 6 MP and basic motion detection functions, but the smart filtering capability is not passed through. Security Australia stocks compatible Hikvision AcuSense NVRs if you need a matched system. -
Is 80 m IR range usable in practice, or is that a manufacturer best-case figure?
80 m is achievable under clear conditions on a 1/1.8" sensor, though real-world range depends on the reflectivity of the subject, atmospheric conditions, and whether there is any competing ambient light washing out the IR. For typical outdoor applications - driveways, perimeter lines, yard approaches - 60 to 80 m of usable IR coverage is realistic. If your approach is longer than 80 m, consider a bullet camera with a longer IR specification or a narrower lens to compress the field of view. -
Will this camera cope with heavy rain or dust exposure without a protective housing?
Yes. The IP67 rating confirms the camera is sealed against dust ingress entirely and protected against sustained water jets from any direction. It does not require an additional weatherproof enclosure for standard outdoor installation in exposed positions. The bullet form factor also provides a degree of self-shielding for the lens from rain falling directly overhead. -
Does this camera support H.265 compression, and does it matter for storage?
Yes. The camera supports H.265+ and H.265 in addition to H.264+ and H.264. H.265+ is the most efficient option and can reduce storage consumption by up to 75% compared to standard H.264 at equivalent quality. On a 6 MP camera recording continuously, the difference in storage usage between H.264 and H.265+ is significant - particularly across a multi-camera system. Confirm your NVR supports H.265 decoding before relying on this compression mode.
