Product Overview
Model: HIK-2CD2765G1IZS
Who This Is For
Commercial installers who need post-install zoom flexibility without accessing the camera housing will find the DS-2CD2765G1-IZS a practical choice for outdoor dome positions where the exact coverage distance is not fixed at the time of mounting. The motorised 2.8-12mm varifocal lens can be adjusted remotely after the camera is sealed and in position - useful on building facades, carpark entries, and covered walkways where trial-and-error lens selection wastes time. The 6MP sensor at 3072 x 2048 resolution provides enough pixel density to crop into a scene after the fact without losing usable detail. IK10 vandal resistance and IP67 weatherproofing make this suitable for exposed outdoor positions where dome cameras face impact risk. Alarm I/O contacts allow integration with existing access control or alarm panels, extending the camera's role beyond passive recording into active event-triggered workflows.
What This Camera Actually Does
Motorised Varifocal Lens (2.8-12mm)
The lens focal length adjusts remotely, so coverage can be narrowed or widened after the camera is mounted and sealed. This removes the need to bring the camera down, open the housing, and manually reposition a fixed lens - a real-time saver on elevated or difficult-access installs.
6MP Resolution (3072 x 2048)
Higher pixel count than standard 4MP or 5MP domes, which means a wider scene can be covered without sacrificing the detail needed to identify faces or read signage. At longer focal lengths, the extra resolution retains usable detail at the edges of frame.
DarkFighter Low-Light Performance
A minimum illumination of 0.008 Lux in colour mode means the camera captures usable colour footage in near-dark conditions before switching to IR. This matters in areas with partial ambient lighting - car parks with spaced pole lights, covered walkways, or building perimeters with minimal artificial light.
120dB Wide Dynamic Range
Handles scenes where bright and dark areas coexist in the same frame - building entrances with direct sunlight behind a subject, or covered areas adjacent to open sky. At 120dB WDR, detail is maintained in both the shadowed and bright portions of the image simultaneously.
30m EXIR 2.0 Infrared
EXIR 2.0 distributes IR illumination more evenly across the frame, reducing the common problem of a washed-out central subject with dark edges. At 30 metres, this covers the full range of a standard 2.8-12mm varifocal zoom without IR underperformance at the tighter end of the lens.
Alarm I/O Integration
Onboard alarm input and output contacts allow the camera to receive triggers from external sensors (PIR, door contacts) or send signals to external devices (sirens, access control panels). This extends the camera's role beyond recording into active event-driven responses without a separate integration module.
Who Buys This Model
- Security integrators on commercial fit-outs: The motorised varifocal lens allows final zoom adjustment after cabling is complete and the camera is in position - essential on sites where ceiling or fascia positions are confirmed late in a build.
- Facilities managers at industrial or logistics sites: IK10 vandal resistance combined with IP67 weatherproofing covers exposed outdoor dome positions at loading docks, perimeter fencing, and external stairwells where impact risk and weather exposure are both factors.
- Installers specifying access control-integrated systems: The alarm I/O contacts allow the camera to tie directly into existing alarm panels or access control infrastructure without additional hardware, useful on sites with established security ecosystems.
- Multi-site retail or hospitality operators: The 6MP resolution at a varifocal focal range means a single camera can cover a wider scene - such as a dining room or retail floor - while retaining enough detail to identify individuals, reducing the total camera count per site.
Honest Assessment
The DS-2CD2765G1-IZS does several things well for an outdoor varifocal dome: the motorised lens genuinely reduces on-site adjustment time, the 6MP sensor provides meaningful detail advantage over 4MP alternatives, and the combination of IK10 and IP67 ratings makes it a credible outdoor choice at exposed positions. DarkFighter low-light performance at 0.008 Lux in colour mode is a practical advantage over standard CMOS sensors in partially lit environments. The alarm I/O contacts add integration value that lower-cost domes in this class typically omit. Where this camera will not serve well: if pan, tilt, or continuous zoom tracking of moving subjects is the requirement, a PTZ camera is the correct product type - the motorised lens here adjusts focal length remotely but the camera body does not move. If 30m IR range falls short for long driveways or wide perimeter lines, a bullet format with extended IR range will be more suitable. Available through Security Australia with full Hikvision warranty support.
Before You Buy
Motorised Lens Adjustment: The 2.8-12mm motorised varifocal lens is adjusted via the camera's web interface or a compatible NVR with remote focus/zoom support - confirm your NVR supports this function before assuming lens adjustment will be available from your recorder interface. On unsupported NVRs, adjustment defaults to the camera's own web UI accessed via browser.
PoE Power Requirement: This camera operates on standard IEEE 802.3af PoE. Confirm your switch or NVR provides sufficient per-port wattage, particularly if running multiple 6MP cameras on the same PoE switch - 6MP streams and the motorised lens mechanism draw slightly more power than fixed-lens 4MP units.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are mounting on an elevated position - eave soffit, building facade, or carpark ceiling - where returning to adjust a fixed lens after installation is impractical. The motorised 2.8-12mm lens handles remote fine-tuning once the camera is sealed in place.
- Good match if: The install location combines high-contrast lighting (mixed sunlight and shadow) with impact exposure risk - the 120dB WDR and IK10 rating address both challenges in a single dome housing rated to IP67.
- You may need a different model if: The site requires active subject tracking, operator-controlled pan and tilt, or optical zoom during live monitoring - a PTZ camera type is the appropriate product for those requirements and is available on securityaustralia.com.au.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need a fixed-position outdoor dome with remote lens adjustment capability - the motorised 2.8-12mm varifocal provides post-install flexibility that fixed-lens domes at the same resolution cannot match.
- You may need a different model if: The requirement is to actively follow moving subjects with pan and tilt control - a PTZ camera type is the correct product for operator-driven or auto-tracking coverage and is the better fit for that application.
- Pairs well with: A Hikvision-compatible PoE NVR with remote focus and zoom support, which enables motorised lens adjustment directly from the recorder interface without logging into the camera's individual web UI.
Common Questions
-
Does the motorised lens mean this camera can pan and tilt like a PTZ?
No. The motorised varifocal lens on the DS-2CD2765G1-IZS adjusts focal length remotely - zooming in or widening the field of view - but the camera body itself does not rotate or tilt. The lens motor is for post-install zoom and focus adjustment only. The camera points in a fixed direction once mounted. For active pan, tilt, and tracking, a PTZ camera is the correct product type. -
How do I actually adjust the focal length after the camera is installed?
Adjustment is done through the camera's web interface via browser, or through a compatible Hikvision NVR that supports remote focus and zoom commands. Not all NVRs expose this function in their UI - on unsupported recorders, you log directly into the camera's IP address in a browser, navigate to the lens settings, and adjust from there. No physical access to the housing is required once cabling is complete. -
Will this camera work in a position that gets direct weather exposure and occasional impact?
Yes, for both. IP67 means the housing is fully sealed against dust ingress and withstands water immersion, covering rain, hose-down cleaning, and standing water scenarios. IK10 is the highest vandal-resistance classification under the IEC 62262 standard, rated to withstand 20 joules of impact energy - equivalent to a 5kg mass dropped from 400mm. For most exposed outdoor positions, both ratings together mean no additional protective housing is needed. -
What does DarkFighter actually mean for night-time footage at this site?
DarkFighter is Hikvision's low-light sensor optimisation that extends colour capture further into darkness before switching to IR monochrome. At 0.008 Lux minimum illumination in colour mode, this camera retains colour detail in conditions where standard CMOS sensors would already be outputting black and white. In practical terms: a carpark with widely spaced lights, a pathway lit by distant street lighting, or a building exterior with ambient spill light from windows are all scenarios where colour footage is maintained overnight. -
Does the 6MP resolution provide a meaningful advantage over a 4MP dome in the same position?
Yes, in specific situations. 6MP at 3072 x 2048 gives roughly 50% more pixels than a 4MP sensor. The practical benefit appears when the lens is at the wider end of the focal range - more scene area is captured while retaining sufficient pixel density to digitally zoom into a region of interest in recorded footage. At the 12mm end, the advantage is less pronounced because the field of view is already narrow. If the primary requirement is a tight fixed view of a small area, a fixed-lens 4MP camera may serve equally well at lower cost. -
How does the alarm I/O work and what can it connect to?
The alarm I/O contacts provide a dry-contact alarm input and a relay output. The input accepts a signal from an external sensor - PIR detector, door contact, or alarm panel zone output - which can trigger recording or a camera action. The output relay can switch an external device such as a siren, light, or access control input. Wiring connects directly to the camera's terminal block. Voltage and current specifications should be checked against the official datasheet before connecting external devices. The camera is stocked by Security Australia with the standard Hikvision product warranty. -
Will the 30m IR range match the zoom range at the 12mm end of the lens?
Yes, within practical margins. At 12mm focal length the field of view narrows to cover longer distances, and 30m IR range is consistent with the effective monitoring distance at that zoom setting. EXIR 2.0 distributes IR illumination across the frame rather than concentrating it centrally, which reduces hotspot overexposure on subjects at close range when zoomed in. At 2.8mm wide angle the 30m IR range exceeds the depth where most targets of interest would be, so IR performance is not a limiting factor at either end of the focal range under normal installation conditions.
