Product Overview

Model: XPAND Solar Kit (XPANDSOLARKITVERSION)

Who This Is For

Property managers specifying surveillance for remote or off-grid locations know the single biggest barrier is not the camera - it is getting power and connectivity to the site. The XPAND Solar Kit solves both problems in one deployable package. It combines 2 x 100W monocrystalline solar panels, 2 x 460WH lithium batteries with built-in heating, a 4G LTE router, and a 128GB edge storage card, delivering approximately 50 hours of runtime for a camera and router without sunlight. Designed for rural properties, road monitoring, construction sites, water source protection, and forest fire prevention, this system mounts to poles between 80 and 110mm in diameter and requires no mains power connection. All components are IP67 rated and built from die-cast aluminium and fully galvanised mild steel. The camera is selected separately, giving you full flexibility over image quality and AI features to suit the specific site.

What This Kit Actually Does

Off-Grid Power Delivery

Two 100W monocrystalline solar panels with 21.6% or greater conversion efficiency charge the twin 460WH lithium batteries, providing approximately 50 hours of continuous runtime for a single camera and 4G router with no mains connection required.

Built-In 4G Connectivity

The included LT-4GPOEW1 router ships in a weatherproof enclosure and supports dual SIM 4G LTE and 3G, with download speeds up to 150Mbps. It provides 2 PoE ports to power a compatible IP camera directly over the network cable - no separate power supply needed at the camera.

Edge Recording via SD Card

A 128GB Class 10 micro-SDXC card rated at 80MB/s is included and installed in the camera position, enabling continuous local recording without an NVR. Footage is retained on-site even if the 4G connection drops, which is critical in remote monitoring deployments.

Intelligent Battery Management

A built-in BMS (Battery Management System) monitors charge, discharge, load, temperature, and battery condition in real time with over 90% efficiency. Illuminated indicators provide instant on-site feedback, and RS-485 communication allows remote status monitoring through a connected device.

All-Weather Construction

Every component carries IP67 weatherproofing. The enclosures and mounting hardware are manufactured from die-cast aluminium and fully galvanised mild steel. The batteries include a built-in heating element rated for operation down to -20°C discharge, making the system viable in alpine, rural, and high-altitude environments.

Rapid Pole-Mount Deployment

The integrated bracket and U-shape pole clamp are designed for poles between 80 and 110mm in diameter. IP-rated aviation-style inline connectors are used throughout, so the system can be installed quickly in the field without specialist tools. The bracket accommodates turret, dome, and PTZ camera form factors.

Who Buys This Kit

  • Rural and Agricultural Property Owners: Monitoring paddocks, water points, and gate entries where trenching power cable across hundreds of metres is cost-prohibitive. The 50-hour battery reserve covers multiple overcast days without interruption.
  • Construction Site Managers: Deploying temporary surveillance across active sites where mains power is unavailable or unsafe to run. The pole-mount clamp installs to standard site poles and the whole system relocates as the site progresses.
  • Local Councils and Road Authorities: Monitoring intersections, rural roads, or waterway infrastructure without requiring civil works for power. The dual SIM 4G router maintains connectivity even when one carrier signal drops.
  • Conservation and Land Management Agencies: Forest fire prevention, water source protection, and environmental monitoring in areas with no infrastructure. IP67 components and heating batteries support long unattended operation in harsh climates.
  • Security Integrators Tendering Remote Site Contracts: The modular design - camera selected separately - allows integrators to specify the right image sensor and AI features for each site while standardising on a single proven power and connectivity platform.

Honest Assessment

The XPAND Solar Kit does one thing very well: it eliminates the power and connectivity barriers that make remote CCTV installations impractical. The 920WH combined battery capacity backed by 200W of solar generation, an IP67-rated 4G router, and a Class 10 edge storage card means a camera can be operational on a pole in a paddock or on a construction fence line with a single installation visit. The 3-year back-to-base warranty on both the panels and batteries is a genuine commitment for a product category where longevity matters. What this kit will not do is substitute for careful solar placement - shading from trees, buildings, or incorrect panel angle will reduce effective charge time significantly, and the approximate 50-hour runtime figure assumes a single camera and router load. Sites with multiple cameras, PTZ motors drawing higher current, or extended overcast periods will need that load assessed before purchase. Available through Security Australia, this kit suits sites where infrastructure access is the primary challenge rather than image performance.

Before You Buy

Solar Placement: The 50-hour battery runtime figure assumes a single standard IP camera and the 4G router as the total load, with the panels receiving adequate direct sunlight. In Australia, panels should face north (not north/west as stated on the unit's own label, which references northern hemisphere orientation) and be angled to approximately match your site latitude. Any shading during peak sun hours - from a nearby building, tree canopy, or the pole itself - will reduce daily charge accumulation substantially. Calculate your camera's actual PoE draw before purchase and compare it against the 920WH combined battery capacity to confirm the runtime meets your site's requirements between sun cycles.

SIM Card and Data Plan: The LT-4GPOEW1 router supports dual SIM but SIM cards and data plans are not included. Confirm 4G coverage on your preferred carrier at the specific installation coordinates before ordering - not the nearest town. For sites on marginal coverage, the dual SIM slot allows a secondary carrier as fallback, but both SIMs must be sourced and activated separately.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You are installing a single IP camera on a rural or remote site with no mains power and need a self-contained system - the 920WH battery bank and 200W solar input are sized for exactly this single-camera, single-router load over multiple days.
  • Good match if: Your site has no fixed internet connection and you need 4G cellular connectivity built into the power package - the included LT-4GPOEW1 router with dual SIM support and 2 PoE output ports handles both camera power and remote video access in one unit.
  • You may need a different model if: You need to power 2 or more cameras simultaneously from a single solar installation - you would be better suited to a higher-capacity solar system or a dedicated multi-output solar power station, both of which are available on securityaustralia.com.au.

Real-World Scenarios

Remote Gate Monitoring

A cattle station installs the XPAND Solar Kit on a 90mm steel post at a remote boundary gate, 3km from the nearest power point. A turret camera mounts to the integrated bracket. The 4G router with dual SIM connects to the nearest tower, and the 128GB SD card retains footage locally when signal is intermittent.

Construction Site Perimeter

A builder sets up temporary perimeter surveillance at a greenfield site before mains power is connected. The pole-mount clamp attaches to a temporary fencing post and the entire system relocates as site access points shift. No trenching, no generator, no electrician required for the camera power circuit.

Water Source Protection

A catchment management authority monitors a remote water intake for illegal dumping and access. The IP67-rated components tolerate high humidity and seasonal flooding conditions. The BMS system relays real-time battery status back to a monitoring centre via the RS-485 interface, flagging any power issues before the camera goes offline.

Alpine or Sub-Zero Deployment

A national park ranger station installs a camera system at an alpine trailhead where winter temperatures drop well below zero. The built-in battery heating element activates automatically at 0°C, maintaining the lithium cells within the safe charging range of -20°C to 50°C and preventing the battery degradation common with unheated units in cold climates.

Rural Road Monitoring

A local council installs a PTZ camera on an existing street-light pole at a rural intersection using the U-shape clamp. The 4G router provides live remote access for the council's traffic monitoring team, while the 920WH battery bank sustains operation across a multi-day overcast period without interrupting the feed.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: Your site has no mains power and no fixed internet, and you need a complete, self-contained power-and-connectivity platform for a single IP camera with edge recording included from day one.
  • You may need a different model if: You need to power 2 or more cameras from one solar installation - a higher-capacity solar power station with multiple PoE outputs would be the more appropriate product type for multi-camera off-grid deployments.
  • Pairs well with: A full-colour or AI-capable IP camera with built-in strobe and audio deterrence in a turret or bullet form factor, to maximise detection and response capability in remote locations where a physical response time may be long.

Common Questions

  1. Does the camera come included with this solar kit?

No. The camera is not included and must be selected separately. The kit provides the solar panels, batteries, 4G router, SD card, and mounting hardware only. The integrated bracket is designed to accommodate turret, dome, and PTZ camera form factors, giving you flexibility to choose the image sensor and AI capabilities that suit your specific site requirements.
  2. Will this solar kit power a PTZ camera?

It can, but you need to calculate the PTZ motor's actual PoE draw first. The 50-hour runtime figure is based on a single standard IP camera and the 4G router as the combined load. PTZ cameras - particularly those with integrated IR illuminators or continuous pan/tilt operation - draw significantly more current. Divide the 920WH total battery capacity by your camera's confirmed watt draw to calculate actual runtime before ordering.
  3. Does the 4G router work with any Australian SIM card?

Yes, with most major carriers. The LT-4GPOEW1 router supports 4G LTE and 3G across both of its dual SIM slots, which is compatible with the major Australian carrier bands. However, SIM cards are not included and 4G coverage at the specific GPS coordinates of your installation should be verified independently before purchase - coverage maps are approximations and vary by terrain.
  4. How does the battery management system (BMS) protect the batteries?

The BMS monitors charge, discharge, load current, and temperature in real time with over 90% reported efficiency. It manages lithium battery activation and pre-charge functions to prevent overcharge and deep discharge damage. Status is reported via illuminated indicators on the unit and via RS-485 to a connected monitoring device, allowing remote operators to check battery state, remaining power, and temperature without visiting the site.
  5. Will this system work through an Australian winter with overcast conditions?

Yes, within the constraints of the 920WH battery reserve. The 50-hour runtime buffer means the system can sustain a single-camera load through approximately 2 full days with no solar input at all. Extended overcast periods beyond that will draw the battery down progressively. The built-in heating element in the battery (heating version) ensures the lithium cells remain within their safe charging range down to -20°C, so cold temperatures alone do not prevent recharging when sunlight does return. Sites with regular multi-day overcast periods should factor this into load planning. The team at Security Australia can assist with load calculations if you are uncertain.
  6. What pole diameter does the mounting clamp support?

The U-shape pole-mount clamp included in the kit is rated for poles between 80 and 110mm in diameter. This covers most standard street-light poles, temporary construction fence posts, and purpose-installed steel poles. If your site uses a pole outside this diameter range, the clamp will not fit securely and an alternative mounting solution would be needed.
  7. Does the 4G router have PoE to power the camera directly?

Yes. The LT-4GPOEW1 router includes 2 x 10/100 Base-T PoE output ports, which means a compatible IP camera can receive both network data and power over a single Ethernet cable connected directly to the router. This eliminates the need for a separate PoE injector or power supply at the camera mounting point - the entire power chain runs from the solar batteries through the router to the camera.
  8. What is the warranty on the solar panels and batteries?

Both the solar panels and lithium batteries carry a 3-year back-to-base warranty. The panels also carry a stated service life of 20 or more years, which reflects the durability of monocrystalline silicon construction. Back-to-base means the product must be returned to the point of sale for warranty assessment rather than a technician attending site, so factor this into your maintenance planning for remote locations.
