Product Overview
Model: HA-KIT-IP2
Who This Is For
For residential owners and small business operators who need a complete, matched IP video intercom solution without sourcing components separately. The HiLook HA-KIT-IP2 IP Video Intercom Kit bundles an outdoor door station and indoor monitor into a single purchase, giving installers and owner-operators a pre-configured pairing that removes compatibility guesswork. This is a practical fit for single-door entry points at homes, apartment units, small offices, and shopfronts where staff or residents need to see, speak with, and grant access to visitors remotely. Because everything ships together from the same manufacturer ecosystem, commissioning time is reduced and support is straightforward. The kit suits both DIY-capable buyers and trade installers looking for a tidy entry-level IP intercom package to present to residential or light-commercial clients.
What This Intercom Actually Does
Video Verification at the Door
The outdoor door station includes a built-in camera that streams live video to the indoor monitor when a visitor presses the call button. This lets occupants see who is at the door before deciding whether to respond or release an electronic lock.
Two-Way Audio Communication
Both the door station and indoor monitor include integrated microphones and speakers, enabling clear two-way conversation between visitor and occupant without physical proximity to the door - useful for delivery instructions, screening guests, or communicating with service staff.
IP Network-Based Architecture
Operating over a standard IP network means the door station and indoor monitor communicate over existing Cat5e or Cat6 cabling infrastructure. This avoids proprietary wiring runs and keeps the system compatible with standard network switches and PoE infrastructure already on site.
Matched Kit - No Compatibility Guesswork
The HA-KIT-IP2 is sold as a tested, matched bundle from the HiLook ecosystem. The door station and indoor monitor are confirmed to work together out of the box, which simplifies procurement for installers and reduces commissioning time on site.
Remote Access via Mobile App
HiLook IP intercoms support remote viewing and answering via a mobile application, so occupants can see and speak with visitors at the door even when away from the property. This extends the intercom function beyond the fixed indoor monitor location.
Who Buys This Model
- Residential Homeowners: Installing a front door intercom for the first time and wanting a complete, ready-to-go kit rather than sourcing a door station and monitor separately from different suppliers.
- Small Office Managers: Controlling access to a single entry point - reception desk or back office staff can screen and admit visitors without leaving their workstation, using the indoor monitor or mobile app.
- Trade Installers on Light-Commercial Jobs: Specifying an entry-level IP intercom for small shopfronts or professional suites where budget is a factor and a single matched kit covers the entire scope of work cleanly.
- Rental Property Managers: Adding a video intercom to a managed property to improve tenant security at the main entry - the IP architecture means the system integrates with existing network cabling already in place.
Honest Assessment
The HiLook HA-KIT-IP2 does what an entry-level IP intercom kit is designed to do: it provides a matched, network-based video intercom solution for a single door with minimal procurement complexity. The IP architecture is a genuine advantage over analogue intercom systems - standard Cat5e or Cat6 cabling is used throughout, and remote mobile access means the intercom is not limited to the physical indoor monitor location. For single-door residential or light-commercial applications, this covers the core requirement well. Where this kit will not reach is multi-door or multi-tenant installations. If a site requires multiple door stations, multiple indoor monitors across floors, or integration with an access control system managing more than one entry point, a larger IP intercom platform or dedicated access control system available through Security Australia would be the more appropriate specification. This kit is a single-entry solution and should be evaluated on that basis.
Complete Package Contents
- 1 x HiLook IP Door Station - outdoor unit with built-in camera, microphone, speaker, and call button
- 1 x HiLook IP Indoor Monitor - indoor unit with display screen, microphone, and speaker
Before You Buy
Installer Note: The HA-KIT-IP2 operates over your IP network and the door station will require either PoE power from your network switch or a separate power supply at the door location - confirm your switch supports PoE before running cable. If you plan to connect an electronic door strike or magnetic lock for remote release, verify the door station's relay output specifications match your lock's voltage and current requirements before installation.
Network Note: Both the door station and indoor monitor will occupy IP addresses on your local network. Assign static IPs or DHCP reservations to both devices during setup to prevent address conflicts from disrupting the connection between units - particularly relevant in small office environments where a router may reassign addresses after a power cycle.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You have a single entry door at a home or small business and want a complete, matched IP intercom kit that uses standard Cat5e or Cat6 network cabling you may already have in place.
- Good match if: Occupants or staff need to answer the door remotely via mobile app when away from the fixed indoor monitor - the IP-based architecture supports this without additional hardware.
- You may need a different model if: Your site has multiple entry doors, requires several indoor monitors across different rooms or floors, or needs to integrate with a multi-door access control system - a dedicated multi-door IP intercom or access control platform would be the more appropriate product type to explore.

How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need a complete, matched IP video intercom solution for a single entry point and want to avoid the compatibility risk of pairing components from separate purchases.
- You may need a different model if: Your site requires more than 1 door station, multiple indoor monitors across different zones, or integration with a broader access control system - a multi-door IP intercom platform or dedicated access control kit would be the more appropriate product type to consider.
- Pairs well with: A PoE network switch (to power the door station and maintain clean IP infrastructure), and an electronic door strike or magnetic lock connected to the door station's relay output for complete entry control.
Common Questions
-
Does the HA-KIT-IP2 work with a standard PoE network switch?
Yes. The door station in the HA-KIT-IP2 is designed to receive power over Ethernet, so a PoE-capable network switch running Cat5e or Cat6 cable to the door station handles both power and data in a single cable run. If you do not have a PoE switch, a separate power supply at the door station location is required - confirm your network infrastructure before installation. -
Will this kit work with an electronic door lock or magnetic lock?
Yes, with the appropriate lock hardware. The door station includes a relay output designed to trigger an electronic door strike or magnetic lock when the unlock button is pressed on the indoor monitor or mobile app. You will need to confirm the lock's voltage and current requirements against the door station's relay specifications before wiring to ensure compatibility. -
Can I answer the intercom from my phone when I am not at the indoor monitor?
Yes. The HiLook IP intercom system supports mobile app connectivity, allowing you to receive call notifications, view the live door station camera feed, and conduct a two-way audio conversation from your smartphone. This means the indoor monitor is not the only answer point - you can respond to visitors remotely when you are away from the property. -
Is this kit expandable to cover a second door or additional indoor monitors?
No - the HA-KIT-IP2 is a 1-door, 1-monitor kit and is not intended for multi-door or multi-monitor expansion. If your site needs coverage of 2 or more doors, or multiple indoor answer points in different rooms, you would need to look at a dedicated multi-door IP intercom platform rather than expanding this kit. The Security Australia range includes larger IP intercom systems suited to those requirements. -
Does the door station camera work at night or in low-light conditions?
The door station includes a camera for video calling, though low-light performance will depend on the ambient lighting at the entry point. HiLook IP door stations in this range typically include infrared illumination or supplemental lighting to support visibility in low ambient light - if your entry is particularly dark, confirm the night vision specification of the door station and consider supplemental entry lighting for best results. -
How does the IP architecture in this kit differ from a traditional analogue intercom system?
Significant difference. A traditional analogue intercom uses a dedicated 2-wire or 4-wire proprietary cable between the door station and monitor. The HA-KIT-IP2 uses standard Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cabling and communicates over a TCP/IP network - meaning the same cabling infrastructure used for your internet connection and cameras can carry the intercom signal. This also enables the remote mobile app function, which analogue systems cannot support without additional hardware.
Cabling Considerations
- Cable Type: Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable for all IP connections between the door station, network switch, and indoor monitor.
- Max Cable Run: Up to 100 metres per standard Ethernet segment from switch to device. If the door station is further than 100 metres from the switch, a PoE extender or mid-span injector will be required.
- PoE Notes: The door station requires PoE power (IEEE 802.3af) from the connected switch. Confirm your switch port delivers PoE before finalising the cable run. The indoor monitor will require its own power connection - refer to the included power supply.
- Lock Wiring Tips: If connecting an electronic door strike or magnetic lock to the relay output, run a separate low-voltage cable (typically 18AWG or 20AWG 2-core) from the door station to the lock hardware. Keep this run as short as practical and ensure the lock's power supply is matched to the lock type - a magnetic lock typically requires 12V or 24V DC from a dedicated lock power supply, not from the intercom itself.
