Product Overview
Model: IPC-T561H-MU-BLACK
Who This Is For
For installers and property owners who need genuine full-colour night imaging without relying on infrared, the HiLook IPC-T561H-MU is built around Hi-Color technology that retains natural colour in low-light conditions rather than producing the monochrome output typical of standard IR cameras. At 6MP, it delivers noticeably sharper detail than entry-level 2MP or 4MP options - useful wherever facial features, clothing colour, or vehicle detail matter in after-hours footage. The fixed turret form factor suits eave, soffit, and wall mounting at residential and small commercial properties, and the black housing blends cleanly into darker architectural finishes. The MU suffix confirms a built-in microphone for audio capture alongside video. HiLook's Pro Series positioning means this sits above the base HiLook range while remaining a practical fit for budget-conscious projects that still demand colour night performance.
What This Camera Actually Does
Hi-Color Full-Colour Night Imaging
Rather than switching to black-and-white at night, Hi-Color uses warm supplemental lighting to maintain colour in the scene. This means clothing colour, vehicle colour, and skin tone are preserved in low-light footage - detail that disappears entirely with standard IR-only cameras.
6MP Resolution
6MP captures roughly 2.5 times the pixel count of a 1080p camera in the same field of view. In practical terms, you can crop into recorded footage to read a face or number plate detail that would be unrecoverable at lower resolutions, without needing a tighter lens or a second camera position.
Fixed Turret Housing
The turret design lets the camera module rotate within its housing to adjust aim after mounting, without repositioning the base plate. This simplifies installation on eaves and soffits where exact cable exit alignment is difficult to predict before the bracket goes up.
Built-In Microphone
The MU suffix confirms an integrated microphone for onboard audio recording alongside video. This captures ambient sound - voices, breaking glass, vehicle noise - without requiring a separate audio input device or external microphone cabling back to the NVR.
PoE Network Connection
As a network camera, power and data travel over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable from a PoE switch or NVR. There is no separate power supply or additional wiring run needed at the camera end, which keeps installation straightforward and the mounting point clean.
Black Housing Option
The black finish suits dark soffits, charcoal fascia, and contemporary building exteriors where a white camera would stand out visually. For architects, builders, or property owners prioritising a clean aesthetic, the black variant provides the same performance without compromising the finished look of the install.
Who Buys This Model
- Residential installers: Fitting cameras on house eaves and soffits where clients want colour night vision and the black housing matches dark Colorbond or painted timber fascia boards.
- Small business owners: Covering car parks, shopfronts, or alleyways after hours where retaining colour in low-light footage is specifically needed for incident identification.
- Builders and project managers: Specifying cameras for new residential builds or renovations with dark architectural finishes, where the standard white turret would not match the facade.
- HiLook NVR system owners: Expanding an existing HiLook Pro Series system with a higher-resolution colour-night camera without moving to a different brand or platform.
Honest Assessment
The IPC-T561H-MU delivers two things that matter for after-hours residential and small commercial use: 6MP detail and Hi-Color full-colour night imaging. The combination means footage captured in poorly lit conditions stays usable for identification purposes rather than being a grey blur. The turret housing is practical - the adjustable ball mechanism makes fine-tuning aim straightforward after the base is fixed. Audio capture via the built-in microphone is a genuine addition for NVRs that support audio recording. Available through Security Australia as part of the HiLook Pro Series range, this camera is a sensible step up from base-tier 2MP or 4MP IR-only models. It will not suit applications requiring motorised zoom, long-range detection beyond its fixed lens coverage, or PTZ tracking - for those scenarios a different camera type from the range is a better starting point.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: Hi-Color uses warm supplemental light to produce colour at night - this light is visible to the human eye as a faint warm glow from the front of the camera. In most residential and small commercial installs this is not an issue, but if the mounting location is directly in a sleeping area's line of sight or a light-sensitive environment, confirm this is acceptable with the client before installation. Also verify your NVR supports audio input channels if you intend to record from the built-in microphone - not all NVR configurations enable audio recording by default.
Storage Note: 6MP streams produce larger file sizes than 2MP or 4MP cameras. If you are adding this camera to an existing system, check that your NVR has sufficient remaining storage capacity and processing headroom for the higher resolution stream - particularly if you are running multiple 6MP channels simultaneously.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need full-colour night footage at a residential property or small business entry point, and a standard IR camera's monochrome output is not adequate for identifying people or vehicles after dark.
- Good match if: The install location has dark fascia, Colorbond, or a contemporary exterior finish where a white camera housing would be visually inconsistent, and the black variant is needed to match the architecture.
- You may need a different model if: Your priority is covering a large open area - a wide car park, perimeter fence line, or long driveway approach - where a PTZ or long-range bullet camera with motorised zoom and extended IR detection would provide more appropriate coverage from a single camera position.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You specifically need full-colour night imaging in a fixed turret form factor at 6MP, and the black housing is required to match the installation environment's finish.
- You may need a different model if: The coverage area is large and open - a long driveway approach, wide car park, or extended perimeter - where a bullet camera with long-range IR or a PTZ with optical zoom gives more useful detection distance from a single mounting point.
- Pairs well with: A HiLook Pro Series PoE NVR with audio recording capability enabled, ensuring both the 6MP stream and built-in microphone audio are fully utilised in the recorded footage.
Common Questions
-
Does the Hi-Color camera produce colour footage in complete darkness?
No - Hi-Color requires some ambient light or uses its own warm supplemental light to produce colour. The warm light emitter on the front of the camera activates in low-light conditions and illuminates the scene, which is what enables colour output rather than switching to monochrome infrared. In true complete darkness with the warm light active, colour imaging is maintained. If the warm light emitter is obstructed or disabled, night performance will be reduced. -
Will this camera work with my existing HiLook NVR?
Yes, in most cases. The IPC-T561H-MU is part of the HiLook Pro Series and is designed for use with HiLook NVRs. Confirm your NVR has a free channel with sufficient resolution support for a 6MP stream. HiLook NVRs also support ONVIF, which provides broader compatibility. If you are running an older or lower-specification NVR, verify the maximum supported resolution per channel before purchasing. -
Does this camera support two-way audio?
No - the IPC-T561H-MU has a built-in microphone for audio capture, but does not have a confirmed built-in speaker. This means it records audio but cannot be used for two-way conversation or remote audio announcements. If two-way audio is a requirement for your installation, a camera model with both a built-in microphone and a built-in speaker should be specified instead. -
Is the black version the same camera as the white version?
Yes. The black housing is an aesthetic option - the imaging sensor, Hi-Color technology, resolution, and all other specifications are the same as the white variant. The choice between black and white is purely based on matching the camera housing to the mounting surface or exterior finish. Security Australia stocks both colour options in this model. -
How much storage will a 6MP Hi-Color camera use compared to a 2MP camera?
Significantly more. A 6MP stream at high quality records approximately 3 times the data of a comparable 2MP stream under similar conditions. In practice, enabling H.265+ compression on your NVR substantially reduces this gap, but you should still plan for higher storage consumption per channel when adding a 6MP camera to an existing system. If your NVR HDD is already close to capacity, adding storage before installation is recommended. -
Will this camera work with a standard PoE switch or does it need a specific NVR?
Yes, it will work with a standard IEEE 802.3af PoE switch. As a network IP camera, the IPC-T561H-MU connects via Cat5e or Cat6 and draws power over that cable from any compatible PoE switch or PoE NVR. Using it with a PoE switch rather than a HiLook NVR directly is a valid configuration, though some advanced features may require a HiLook or Hikvision NVR for full functionality.
