Product Overview

Model: HiLook Turret AcuSense Kit 6MP / 8CH NVR - 6x IPC-T361H-MU + NVR-108MH-C/8P

Who This Is For

When keeping alert fatigue low while covering a full residential or small commercial property is the priority, this HiLook AcuSense kit is built for that exact brief. The bundle pairs 6 x IPC-T361H-MU 6MP turret cameras with an 8-channel PoE NVR, giving installers a plug-and-play PoE system that auto-discovers cameras over a single Cat6 run per head-end point. AcuSense human and vehicle classification filters out motion from animals, wind-blown trees, and passing headlights - so the NVR only flags events that actually warrant a second look. The 2 spare NVR channels mean the system can grow without replacing hardware. Suited to four-bedroom homes with a garage and side access, small warehouses, childcare centres, and retail shopfronts where a single NVR location needs to cover six distinct zones across the property.

What This System Actually Does

AcuSense Human & Vehicle Classification

The IPC-T361H-MU uses deep-learning at the camera level to separate humans and vehicles from general motion. Notifications and recordings are triggered only when a person or vehicle is detected, cutting irrelevant alerts caused by animals, foliage, or passing vehicle headlights sweeping across a wall.

6MP Resolution Across All 6 Cameras

At 6 megapixels, each camera captures significantly more detail than a standard 2MP or 4MP unit. A wider scene can be covered from a single mounting point without losing the ability to identify facial features, clothing, or licence plates within the frame at closer ranges.

8-Port PoE NVR - One Cable Per Camera

The NVR-108MH-C/8P powers and connects all 6 cameras over a single Cat6 run each. No separate power adaptors, no secondary power cabling runs. All 6 cameras are directly connected to the NVR's built-in PoE switch, which simplifies both the initial install and any future troubleshooting.

Built-In Microphone on Every Camera

The MU suffix on the IPC-T361H-MU confirms a built-in microphone in every camera. Audio is recorded alongside video footage on the NVR, providing additional evidentiary context during an incident review without requiring separate audio hardware at each camera location.

2 Spare NVR Channels for Expansion

The 8-channel NVR ships with 6 cameras, leaving 2 PoE ports unused. Additional HiLook or compatible Hikvision IP cameras can be added later without purchasing a new NVR, making this kit a practical starting point for properties where coverage requirements are likely to grow.

H.265+ Compression for Storage Efficiency

Both the cameras and NVR support H.265+ encoding, which reduces storage consumption compared to H.264 at equivalent image quality. Running 6 x 6MP cameras continuously generates a significant amount of data - H.265+ directly extends how far a given hard drive capacity stretches before footage begins overwriting.

Who Buys This Model

  • Residential installers covering larger homes: Four-bedroom homes with a double garage, rear yard, side access, and driveway typically need 5-7 camera positions - this kit provides exactly 6 cameras without overspending on unused hardware.
  • Small business and retail owners: Shopfronts, offices, or small warehouses that need human and vehicle event filtering to avoid being flooded with motion alerts from foot traffic on a public footpath or passing delivery vehicles.
  • Childcare and education facilities: Sites where audio recording is required for incident documentation benefit from the built-in microphone on every IPC-T361H-MU, eliminating the need for separate audio inputs.
  • Strata and property managers: Managing a block or commercial tenancy where a single NVR location needs to serve multiple entry and exit zones, with room to add cameras as occupancy or coverage requirements change.
  • DIY advanced installers: Buyers comfortable running Cat6 who want a genuine IP PoE system with AI-based filtering rather than an analogue kit, at a price point that makes 6MP accessible across all 6 positions simultaneously.

Honest Assessment

This kit delivers genuine value in 3 areas: AcuSense classification at every camera (not just the NVR), 6MP resolution across all 6 heads, and a clean single-cable PoE install. For a property that needs human and vehicle event filtering without buying individual cameras piecemeal, the bundled pricing makes 6MP AcuSense far more accessible than speccing the same system component by component. The built-in microphone across all cameras is a useful inclusion that many kits at this level omit.

Where this kit has limits: the turret form factor suits eaves, soffits, and interior ceilings, but it is not the right choice for long-range perimeter monitoring of open paddocks, loading dock approaches over 40 metres, or licence plate capture at distance - those applications call for a varifocal bullet or a dedicated ANPR camera. The NVR in this bundle is an 8-channel unit, so sites that already anticipate needing 10 or more camera positions should consider a 16-channel NVR kit instead. Available through Security Australia, this bundle ships as a matched and tested system.

Complete Package Contents

Before You Buy

Hard Drive Not Included: The NVR-108MH-C/8P ships without a hard drive. Running 6 x 6MP cameras on H.265+ continuous recording at standard bitrate will consume storage at a meaningful rate - for most residential and small commercial installs, a 4TB or 6TB surveillance-grade HDD (WD Purple or Seagate SkyHawk series) is the recommended starting point. Confirm the NVR's maximum supported HDD capacity before purchasing storage separately, and ensure the drive is rated for 24/7 operation rather than a standard desktop drive.

Cable Runs and PoE Budget: Each IPC-T361H-MU is powered directly from the NVR's built-in PoE ports. Keep individual camera cable runs under 100 metres (Cat6 recommended). The NVR's total PoE budget is shared across all active ports - confirm the total PoE wattage of the NVR-108MH-C/8P against the per-camera power draw before adding any additional cameras to the 2 spare ports, particularly if those cameras require higher wattage (for example, cameras with built-in IR illuminators at higher intensity).

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You need to cover 6 zones on a residential or small commercial property and want AcuSense human and vehicle filtering at every camera position to minimise false event notifications.
  • Good match if: Your install runs Cat6 from a central NVR location and you want power and data in a single cable per camera without external PoE injectors or separate power adaptors.
  • You may need a different model if: Your site requires more than 8 camera positions now or in the near term, or you need long-range directional coverage over open approaches exceeding 40 metres - a 16-channel NVR kit or a varifocal bullet kit would be a better fit for those requirements.

Real-World Scenarios

Residential - 4 Bedroom Home

Cameras placed at the front door, driveway, double garage, rear yard, and both side gates. AcuSense means the NVR stops triggering alerts every time the neighbour's cat walks past the sensor zone at 2am - only human or vehicle detections generate notifications.

Small Retail Shopfront

Cameras covering the entry, checkout counter, stockroom door, rear exit, car park, and loading area. The 6MP resolution captures enough detail at the counter to read a transaction clearly without requiring a separate dedicated close-up camera for the register zone.

Childcare Centre Incident Documentation

The built-in microphone on every IPC-T361H-MU records ambient audio alongside video. In a childcare setting, this provides a fuller record of incidents in activity rooms, entry areas, and outdoor play spaces without requiring separate audio input devices at each camera location.

Warehouse or Small Industrial Unit

Cameras on roller doors, internal aisles, the office entry, and the yard. The 2 spare NVR channels allow a camera to be added at a secondary gate or a future extension without replacing the NVR, keeping system costs lower as the tenancy footprint changes.

Strata Common Areas

A single NVR in the comms room covers the lobby, lift foyer, carpark entry, letterbox area, pool gate, and bin enclosure using all 6 cameras. H.265+ compression keeps storage consumption manageable on a single surveillance HDD across all 6 x 6MP streams.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need AcuSense human and vehicle filtering at every camera position across a 6-zone property, with a single-cable PoE install and room to add 2 more cameras without replacing the NVR.
  • You may need a different model if: Your site has more than 8 camera positions planned, requires long-range varifocal coverage over open perimeters, or needs dedicated ANPR lane capture - a 16-channel NVR kit or a specialised ANPR/bullet camera kit would be more appropriate.
  • Pairs well with: A surveillance-grade 3.5-inch SATA hard drive (4TB to 6TB recommended), a UPS battery backup unit for the NVR, and a Cat6 cable supply for clean in-wall or conduit cable runs.

Common Questions

  1. Does this kit include a hard drive?

No. The NVR-108MH-C/8P ships without a hard drive installed. You will need to purchase a surveillance-rated HDD separately before the system can record. For 6 x 6MP cameras recording on H.265+ compression, a 4TB to 6TB surveillance-grade drive (WD Purple or Seagate SkyHawk) is a practical starting point for most installations. Standard desktop drives are not recommended for continuous 24/7 NVR operation.
  2. Will this system work with cameras I already own?

It depends on the cameras. The NVR-108MH-C/8P is designed for HiLook and Hikvision IP cameras and supports ONVIF for third-party compatibility, but AcuSense AI features and seamless auto-discovery will only function correctly with HiLook and Hikvision cameras. Third-party ONVIF cameras may add as basic video-only streams without smart detection features.
  3. Does the AcuSense detection work on the camera or only at the NVR?

AcuSense classification runs on-camera in each IPC-T361H-MU. The AI processing happens at the camera itself, not just at the NVR. This means the camera sends pre-classified event metadata to the NVR rather than requiring the NVR to analyse every frame. The practical result is that smart event filtering functions correctly even if you later add these cameras to a third-party VMS that supports metadata.
  4. Can I view the cameras remotely on my phone?

Yes. The NVR-108MH-C/8P supports remote viewing via the Hik-Connect app (iOS and Android). Remote access requires the NVR to have an active internet connection and a Hik-Connect account. Live view, playback, and event notifications can all be accessed remotely through the app once the NVR is registered to an account during initial setup.
  5. Do all 6 cameras record audio?

Yes. Every IPC-T361H-MU in this kit includes a built-in microphone (confirmed by the MU suffix). Audio is recorded alongside the video stream and stored on the NVR's hard drive. Note that audio recording laws in Australia vary by state - in most jurisdictions, recording audio in areas where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy without consent may have legal implications. Confirm applicable regulations before enabling audio recording in your specific location.
  6. Will this kit work if I later want to add cameras to the 2 spare ports?

Yes. The 2 unused PoE ports on the NVR-108MH-C/8P accept additional HiLook or compatible Hikvision IP cameras without any configuration change to the existing 6 cameras. Before adding cameras, confirm the NVR's total PoE power budget against the wattage requirements of both existing and new cameras to ensure the internal PoE switch is not overloaded. The NVR-108MH-C/8P range is stocked by Security Australia, and compatible add-on cameras are available as individual units.
  7. What is the maximum cable run from the NVR to each camera?

100 metres per camera over Cat5e or Cat6. Each IPC-T361H-MU is powered directly from the NVR's built-in PoE ports, and the standard IEEE 802.3 PoE specification supports a maximum cable length of 100 metres. Runs approaching this limit should use Cat6 rather than Cat5e to maintain signal integrity and stable power delivery. Exceeding 100 metres requires a PoE extender, which would need to be factored into the installation plan.

Cabling Considerations

  • Cable Type: Cat6 recommended for all camera runs. Cat5e is the minimum supported, but Cat6 provides better headroom on longer runs and is the preferred choice for new installations.
  • Max Cable Run: 100 metres per camera from the NVR's PoE port. This is the IEEE 802.3 PoE limit for both data and power over Ethernet. Runs approaching 90 metres or more should use Cat6 and be tested for power delivery.
  • PoE Notes: All 8 PoE ports on the NVR-108MH-C/8P share a total power budget. Each IPC-T361H-MU draws a defined wattage - confirm the total draw of all connected cameras does not exceed the NVR's rated PoE budget before activating all 8 ports simultaneously.
  • Wiring Tips: Run cables through conduit where exposed to the exterior or rodent-accessible roof spaces. Terminate all cable ends with RJ45 connectors rated for Cat6. Label each cable at both ends during installation - tracing an unlabelled 8-camera system in a roof cavity later is a time-consuming task that is easily avoided at the time of the original install.
