Product Overview
Model: HiLook Turret AcuSense Kit 6MP/8CH T262
Who This Is For
For installers and property owners who need a complete, ready-to-run IP surveillance system without piecing together compatible components, this HiLook 6MP AcuSense 8-channel kit delivers a matched camera-and-recorder package that connects via PoE without a separate power run to each camera. The 8 x IPC-T262H-MU turret cameras cover external walls, driveways, car parks, and entry points at 6MP resolution with 30m EXIR night vision and 120dB True WDR - useful anywhere headlights or bright backlight wash out cheaper sensors. AcuSense AI filtering reduces false alerts by distinguishing people and vehicles from general motion. The HiLook NVR-108MH-C-8P ties all 8 channels together through a single Plug and Play interface with a 4K HDMI monitor output. Suited to residential properties, small commercial sites, light industrial yards, and strata buildings where a self-contained 8-camera network system is the right scale.
What This System Actually Does
AcuSense AI Filtering
Classifies motion events as either people or vehicles before triggering an alert. This cuts down on unnecessary notifications from passing animals, blowing leaves, or shifting shadows - meaning when an alert fires, it's worth looking at.
6MP Resolution
More pixels than a standard 1080p camera means wider scenes can be covered from a single mounting point while still retaining usable detail - faces at entry points, number plates in car parks - without needing to zoom in with a separate PTZ.
120dB True WDR
Handles high-contrast lighting in the same frame - a bright car park entrance against a dark interior, or a doorway with direct sunlight behind a subject. Both bright and shadow areas remain visible rather than washing out or blocking up.
30m EXIR Night Vision
Infrared illumination reaches 30 metres in low or zero ambient light. EXIR technology distributes the IR beam more evenly than standard IR arrays, reducing the overexposed hotspot effect in the centre of the frame on close subjects.
8-Port PoE Plug and Play NVR
The NVR-108MH-C-8P has 8 built-in PoE ports that power and connect each camera over a single Cat cable. No separate PoE switch, no additional power supplies at each camera position - run one cable per camera back to the NVR and the system auto-discovers the cameras.
Built-in Microphone
Each IPC-T262H-MU includes a built-in microphone for on-camera audio capture. This is useful for reception areas, entry gates, or any location where ambient audio context adds value to recorded footage without needing a separate audio input device.
Who Buys This Model
- Residential installers: Running a single cable install across a house with garage, driveway, front and back entries - the 8 PoE ports handle the full camera count without a separate switch, keeping the equipment cabinet simple.
- Small business owners: Retail shops, cafes, and offices with 4-8 camera positions who want AI-filtered alerts to their phone during after-hours without being woken up by every passing car or cat.
- Strata and property managers: Common-area coverage across car parks, lobbies, and bin areas where 6MP resolution and WDR performance matter for usable incident footage under mixed lighting conditions.
- Light industrial and warehouse sites: Loading dock and yard coverage using AcuSense vehicle detection on a site where after-hours vehicle movement is the primary alert trigger rather than general motion.
- DIY buyers doing a structured cable run: Anyone installing Cat cable themselves into a new build or renovation who wants a matched, pre-validated system where all components are confirmed compatible out of the box.
Honest Assessment
This kit does its best work as a matched, single-supplier system - cameras and NVR are confirmed compatible, PoE is built into the recorder, and AcuSense AI is active across all 8 channels without additional licensing. The 6MP sensor, 120dB WDR, and 30m EXIR make these cameras a meaningful step above budget 2MP or 4MP alternatives for sites where lighting is variable or coverage distances are longer than a typical corridor. The built-in microphone on each camera adds audio context without extra hardware.
Where this system has limits: the 2.8mm fixed lens gives a wide field of view but is not suitable for long-range identification at distances beyond 15-20 metres. Sites needing varifocal lenses, PTZ tracking, or full-colour night vision would need a different camera selection. The NVR supports 1 HDD - plan your storage capacity before purchase based on your recording schedule and retention requirements. The kit is available through Security Australia with no HDD included, so factor that into your total budget.
Complete Package Contents
- 8 x HiLook IPC-T262H-MU - 6MP AcuSense turret camera, 2.8mm fixed lens, 30m EXIR IR, 120dB True WDR, built-in microphone, weatherproof, PoE
- 1 x HiLook NVR-108MH-C-8P - 8-channel NVR, 8x built-in PoE ports, H.265+/H.265/H.264+/H.264, 4K HDMI output, 1x HDD bay (HDD not included)
Before You Buy
Storage Planning: The NVR-108MH-C-8P has a single HDD bay and ships without a hard drive. At 6MP across 8 cameras recording continuously, storage consumption is significantly higher than a 2MP system - a 4TB surveillance-grade HDD will cover roughly 7-10 days of continuous recording at standard bitrates, depending on H.265+ efficiency settings and motion-only recording schedules. Size your HDD accordingly before installation, and confirm you are purchasing a CMR (conventional magnetic recording) surveillance-rated drive rather than a desktop drive.
Cable Run Length: Each camera draws PoE power from the NVR over Cat cable. Maximum PoE cable run is 100 metres per camera. If any camera position is more than 100m from the NVR location, you will need a PoE extender or a mid-point switch on that run - the NVR's built-in PoE ports cannot compensate for longer distances.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are installing 8 cameras across a property with cable runs under 100m and want a single Cat cable per camera with no separate PoE switch - the NVR's 8 built-in PoE ports handle power and data in one.
- Good match if: Your site has mixed lighting conditions - bright driveways, shaded entry points, or backlit windows - where 120dB True WDR and AcuSense filtering will reduce both image washout and unwanted motion alerts.
- You may need a different model if: You need to identify subjects or vehicles at distances beyond 20 metres - a varifocal or motorised zoom camera kit will serve that requirement better than the 2.8mm fixed lens on these turrets.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need a fully matched 8-camera PoE system with AI human and vehicle detection where all 8 cameras and the recorder are confirmed compatible and install via a single Cat cable per camera with no separate switch required.
- You may need a different model if: Your site requires full-colour night vision rather than IR - a kit built around colour or TiOC cameras would better suit high-value areas where colour detail in darkness is a priority.
- Pairs well with: A surveillance-rated CMR hard drive (4TB or 6TB) sized to your required retention period, and a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to protect the NVR against power interruptions and brownouts.
Common Questions
-
Does this kit include a hard drive?
No. The HiLook NVR-108MH-C-8P ships without a HDD. You will need to purchase a surveillance-rated hard drive separately and install it before the system can record. The NVR supports 1 internal HDD - choose a CMR drive rated for 24/7 operation rather than a standard desktop drive, and size it based on your camera count, resolution settings, and how many days of footage you need to retain. -
Will this system work with cameras I already own?
Possibly, but with limitations. The NVR-108MH-C-8P is designed for HiLook and Hikvision IP cameras using ONVIF protocol. Third-party ONVIF cameras may connect but AcuSense AI features are only guaranteed to function with compatible HiLook and Hikvision cameras. Mixing brands risks losing the AI filtering that is a core feature of this kit. -
Does AcuSense reduce false alarms compared to standard motion detection?
Yes, significantly. Standard motion detection triggers on any pixel change - shadows, light shifts, animals, moving branches. AcuSense classifies the detected subject as either a human or a vehicle before firing an alert. Events that don't match either classification do not trigger a notification, which substantially reduces overnight and after-hours alert volume on outdoor cameras. -
What is the maximum cable run between each camera and the NVR?
100 metres per cable run. This is the standard Ethernet PoE limit over Cat5e or Cat6. If any camera position is beyond 100m from the NVR, you will need a PoE extender or an intermediary PoE switch on that specific run - the NVR's internal PoE ports cannot extend the signal beyond this distance. Plan your cable routes before committing to camera positions. -
Can I view cameras remotely on my phone?
Yes. The NVR-108MH-C-8P supports remote access via the Hik-Connect or SADP platform when connected to your network. You can view live and recorded footage from a smartphone or tablet. Remote access requires the NVR to have a stable internet connection and the relevant app installed on your mobile device. -
Will this camera work for number plate capture at a driveway entry?
Partially. The IPC-T262H-MU with a 2.8mm wide-angle lens captures broad coverage rather than narrow detail. At typical driveway widths and vehicle speeds, plates may be readable in good light on a slow-moving vehicle at close range, but this camera is not configured or rated as a dedicated ANPR camera. For reliable, consistent plate capture, a dedicated ANPR or varifocal camera angled correctly at the entry point is the more appropriate solution. Stocked by Security Australia, ANPR-specific models are available for that requirement. -
Can I add more cameras to this system later?
No, not through the NVR's built-in PoE ports. The NVR-108MH-C-8P has 8 channels and 8 PoE ports - this kit ships with all 8 ports in use. To expand beyond 8 cameras you would need to replace the NVR with a higher-channel model. If future expansion is likely, consider whether a 16-channel NVR with cameras added progressively would be a more practical starting point for your site.
Cabling Considerations
- Cable Type: Cat5e minimum, Cat6 recommended for all camera runs.
- Max Cable Run: 100 metres per camera from the NVR's PoE port. Beyond this distance, signal and power degrade - a PoE extender or intermediate switch is required on longer runs.
- PoE Notes: All 8 cameras draw power directly from the NVR-108MH-C-8P's built-in PoE ports - no external PoE injectors or switch required within the 100m limit.
- Wiring Tips: Run cables before wall lining or ceilings are closed in new builds. Use conduit on outdoor surface runs to protect against UV degradation and physical damage. Label each camera cable at the NVR end during installation - it saves considerable time when diagnosing faults later. Terminate all Cat runs with RJ45 connectors rated for the cable category used.
