Product Overview
Model: IPC-T260H-MU-02
Who This Is For
Property managers specifying cameras for apartments, childcare facilities, or small commercial sites will find the HiLook IPC-T260H-MU a straightforward solution for eave, soffit, and wall positions where image detail and audio capture both matter. The 6MP resolution at 3072 x 2048 means faces and number plates are readable at distances where a 2MP or 4MP camera would fall short, and the built-in microphone removes the need for a separate audio device at each location. The 2.8mm fixed lens suits wide-angle coverage of car parks, entries, and common areas, while 120dB True WDR handles the mixed lighting conditions that are common around glazed doors, covered walkways, and transitions between indoor and outdoor zones. IP66 weatherproofing and PoE power delivery make this a clean, low-cable-count install for anyone running a single Cat5e or Cat6 network back to a PoE-capable NVR or switch.

What This Camera Actually Does
6MP Image Detail
At 3072 x 2048, this camera captures significantly more detail than a standard 2MP or 4MP model. That extra resolution means you can digitally zoom into recorded footage and still identify facial features or read a vehicle registration plate within the camera's field of view.
120dB True WDR
True Wide Dynamic Range at 120dB manages scenes where bright sunlight and deep shadow appear in the same frame - think a doorway with sunlight behind the subject. Both the bright and dark areas remain visible simultaneously rather than one washing out the other.
Built-in Microphone
The onboard microphone records audio alongside video without any additional cabling or external devices. Useful for childcare compliance requirements, reception areas, or any location where recorded audio provides additional incident context. Audio data is carried over the same PoE cable as video and power.
30m IR Night Vision
EXIR technology provides up to 30m of infrared illumination in complete darkness, with 0 Lux performance when IR is active. The low-light colour threshold of 0.028 Lux at F2.0 means the camera maintains a colour image in dimly lit environments before switching to IR monochrome.
Local SD Card Storage
The built-in microSD/SDHC/SDXC slot accepts cards up to 128GB, giving this camera the ability to record locally as a standalone unit or as a backup if the NVR becomes unreachable. This is particularly useful at remote locations or where network redundancy matters.
H.265+ Compression
H.265+ encoding reduces the bitrate required to store and transmit 6MP footage compared to H.264, which directly lowers storage consumption on the NVR and reduces network bandwidth demands. For multi-camera installs, this difference in storage efficiency becomes significant over a 30-day retention period.
Who Buys This Model
- Childcare operators: The built-in microphone and 6MP resolution address both audio recording compliance requirements and the need to clearly identify individuals within indoor and covered outdoor spaces.
- Residential installers: Contractors running a single Cat6 cable per position on home installs value the PoE power delivery, compact turret housing, and IP66 rating for eave and soffit mounting without an additional power run.
- Small business owners: Retail and office environments with mixed lighting - glazed shopfronts, roller doors, lit signage - benefit directly from 120dB True WDR handling the contrast between interior artificial light and exterior daylight.
- Property managers: Apartment block common areas, basement car parks, and entry foyers where 30m IR coverage and wide-angle 2.8mm framing suits corridor and lobby positions without requiring an adjustable lens.
Honest Assessment
The IPC-T260H-MU delivers solid 6MP image quality in a compact turret housing that installs cleanly on ceilings, eaves, and soffits. The 120dB True WDR is a genuine differentiator at this price point, handling difficult backlit scenes that would challenge cameras with basic digital WDR. The built-in microphone and local SD card slot add practical utility without extra cabling. H.265+ compression keeps storage requirements manageable across multi-camera systems. This camera is available through Security Australia as part of the HiLook range. Where it will not be the right tool: the fixed 2.8mm lens cannot be adjusted for longer-range detail at distances beyond 15-20 metres, so narrow corridors or approaches exceeding that require a longer focal length or a varifocal model. It also lacks two-way audio - the microphone records but there is no built-in speaker for verbal responses. For wide-area outdoor perimeters or sites needing optical zoom, a PTZ or varifocal bullet would serve better.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: This camera records audio via the built-in microphone - confirm with your client that audio recording is permitted under applicable state and territory surveillance legislation before installation. Additionally, the 2.8mm fixed lens produces a wide field of view suited to distances of 5-15 metres; if the installation position requires coverage of a long narrow corridor or approach beyond 20 metres, a 4mm or 6mm fixed-lens variant will provide better subject detail at range.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are mounting at a covered entry, lobby ceiling, or eave position where a 2.8mm wide-angle view covers the entire area and mixed lighting from glass or sunlight makes 120dB True WDR essential.
- Good match if: Audio recording is required at the camera position and you want to carry it over the existing PoE cable without running a separate audio or power line.
- You may need a different model if: Your site has long open perimeters, requires optical zoom to track movement across distance, or needs two-way communication - a PTZ or varifocal bullet camera would be more appropriate, and both types are available on securityaustralia.com.au.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need 6MP resolution with a built-in microphone and True WDR in a compact turret housing that installs on a single PoE cable at eave, soffit, or ceiling positions.
- You may need a different model if: Your application demands coverage beyond 30 metres, optical zoom for variable-distance monitoring, or two-way audio - a varifocal turret, bullet, or PTZ camera will serve those requirements better.
- Pairs well with: A PoE NVR with sufficient channel count and H.265+ decoding, or a PoE network switch feeding into a standalone NVR for larger multi-camera deployments.
Common Questions
-
Does this camera support two-way audio?
No. The IPC-T260H-MU-02 has a built-in microphone for audio recording only - there is no built-in speaker. You can hear and record audio at the camera location, but you cannot broadcast audio from the camera to people in the scene. If two-way communication is a requirement, you will need a camera model that includes both a microphone and a speaker. -
Will this camera work without a recorder if I use an SD card?
Yes. The built-in microSD/SDHC/SDXC slot supports cards up to 128GB, allowing the camera to record locally as a standalone unit without an NVR. This mode is particularly useful at locations with limited network infrastructure or as a redundant recording layer alongside an NVR. You can configure local recording schedules and motion-triggered recording through the camera's onboard settings. -
Does this camera need a separate power supply or just a network cable?
A single network cable is all that is required. The IPC-T260H-MU-02 is PoE-powered, meaning a standard Cat5e or Cat6 cable connected to a PoE-capable NVR port or PoE switch carries both data and power to the camera. No separate power adaptor or additional cabling run is needed, which simplifies installation at eave, soffit, and ceiling positions. -
How does 120dB True WDR actually help in a real installation?
It directly improves image quality in mixed-lighting scenes. Without True WDR, a camera pointed at a doorway with bright sunlight behind a subject will either overexpose the background or silhouette the person. At 120dB, this camera captures detail in both the bright and shadowed areas of the same frame simultaneously - making it practical for shopfront entries, glazed lobby doors, and covered outdoor areas where this challenge is common. -
Will this camera work with non-HiLook NVRs?
Generally yes. The IPC-T260H-MU-02 uses standard ONVIF protocol, which allows it to connect to most ONVIF-compatible NVRs from other manufacturers. However, some advanced features such as IVS smart detection rules and H.265+ compression may only function fully when paired with a HiLook or Hikvision NVR. For confirmed compatibility with a specific recorder model, the team at Security Australia can assist before purchase. -
What does IVS line crossing and intrusion detection do on this camera?
These are rule-based smart detection functions built into the camera. Line crossing triggers an alert when a person or object crosses a virtual line you define in the camera's configuration. Intrusion detection triggers when movement occurs within a defined zone boundary. Both reduce false alerts compared to basic pixel-change motion detection and allow targeted alert zones - useful for after-hours monitoring of entry points, car parks, or restricted areas. -
Is the 2.8mm fixed lens suitable for a long corridor or driveway?
Not ideally. The 2.8mm focal length produces a wide angle of view, which works well for open areas at short to medium distances - typically 5 to 15 metres from the camera. For a long narrow corridor or a driveway approach where you need to read faces or plates at 20 metres or beyond, a 4mm or 6mm fixed lens - or a varifocal model - will deliver better subject detail at range. The field of view will be narrower, but the subject will be larger and clearer in frame.
