Product Overview
Model: DS-KD9403-E6
Who This Is For
When high-capacity facial recognition at the entry point is the priority, the Hikvision DS-KD9403-E6 door station is built for exactly that demand. This is a front-of-building access solution for commercial and multi-tenancy installations where visitor management, credential-free entry for enrolled users, and a premium presented finish all need to be addressed in a single device. The anodized aluminium frame and 2.5D curved 8-inch touchscreen give it a specification appropriate for corporate lobbies, residential apartment complexes, aged care facilities, and education campuses. With a face database of 10,000 stored profiles, a user capacity of 20,000, and support for up to 16 sub door stations, this unit suits deployments where a single entrance point must handle large volumes of daily traffic without slowing throughput or compromising on identity verification.
What This Intercom Actually Does
10,000-Face Local Database
Up to 10,000 facial profiles are stored and matched directly on the device - no cloud dependency required. Enrolled users simply approach the screen and the door station processes their identity locally, keeping authentication fast and functional even during network interruptions.
8-Inch 2.5D Curved Touchscreen
The 1280 x 800 curved display is larger than most door station screens on the market. It provides clear on-screen prompts for visitors and a professional finish suited to lobbies and building entries where the intercom is part of the visual impression the property makes.
Large-Scale User and Card Capacity
The unit supports 20,000 users and 100,000 card credentials alongside the 10,000-face database. This separation of credential types means you can run face recognition for regular occupants while still managing card-based access for contractors, deliveries, or visitor management without hitting capacity limits.
Two-Way Audio Communication
A built-in omnidirectional microphone and built-in loudspeaker enable full two-way audio between the visitor at the door and whoever answers the call - whether at an indoor monitor or via the Hik-Connect platform. No external speaker or microphone module is required.
IP65 Outdoor-Rated Housing
The IP65 rating means the unit is protected against dust ingress and direct water jets. Combined with an operating temperature range of -30°C to 60°C, it will handle exposed Australian outdoor entry points - including coastal and high-heat environments - without requiring additional weatherproofing enclosures.
Multi-Station Network Support
With support for up to 16 sub door stations on a single system, this unit suits buildings with multiple entry points - car park barriers, service entrances, and pedestrian gates can all be managed within the same Hikvision intercom architecture alongside the main DS-KD9403-E6.
Who Buys This Model
- Commercial Building Managers: Corporate offices and mixed-use buildings where enrolled staff need hands-free facial access and the entry needs to present a premium appearance in a lobby environment.
- Residential Apartment Developers: Multi-tenancy buildings where a 20,000-user capacity covers all residents, management staff, and delivery personnel across a single controlled entry point.
- Aged Care and Education Facility Operators: Sites where touchless facial entry reduces friction for residents or students who may not reliably carry cards or fobs, and where a large enrolled population makes PIN-based systems impractical.
- Security Integrators on Multi-Entry Projects: Installers deploying Hikvision intercom systems across buildings with multiple gates, foyers, or entry points who need a master door station capable of managing up to 16 sub stations within the same networked system.
Honest Assessment
The DS-KD9403-E6 is a serious commercial door station. The combination of a 10,000-face local database, 20,000-user capacity, and 100,000-card credential storage puts it well above the capability tier of typical residential intercom products. The anodized aluminium frame and curved 8-inch screen at 1280 x 800 are built for settings where presentation matters as much as function. IP65 outdoor protection and the -30°C to 60°C operating range mean it handles exposed Australian installations without modification. This unit is available through Security Australia as a special order item - lead times should be confirmed before including it in a project schedule. It is not a fit-and-forget residential doorbell replacement; it requires 12VDC 2A power supply, structured network cabling, and configuration within a Hikvision intercom or access control system. Buyers wanting a wireless or battery-operated entry point should look at a different product category entirely.
Before You Buy
Power Supply Note: The DS-KD9403-E6 requires a dedicated 12VDC 2A power supply - it is not PoE powered. Run your power cable at the same time as your network cable during rough-in. The unit uses a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connection for video, audio, and system communication, so Cat5e minimum is required, Cat6 is preferred for future-proofing across longer runs to the NVR or intercom management server.
Face Enrolment Planning: The 10,000-face capacity requires enrolment to be completed before the system goes live. For high-occupancy buildings, factor in enrolment time per user into your commissioning schedule. Bulk enrolment via the Hikvision management platform is strongly recommended over unit-by-unit entry for deployments above a few hundred users.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are deploying a commercial or multi-tenancy intercom system where facial recognition for up to 10,000 enrolled users needs to operate locally without ongoing cloud dependency.
- Good match if: Your installation involves multiple entry points - up to 16 sub door stations can be networked alongside this unit within the same Hikvision system, avoiding the need for separate standalone devices at secondary entries.
- You may need a different model if: Your entry point is a single residential home or small office where a simpler 2-wire or PoE-powered door station would be easier to install and more proportionate to the access volume - a standard Hikvision DS-KD series door station is likely a better fit.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need a door station with a large on-device facial recognition database (10,000 faces), high user and card capacity, and a premium 8-inch curved display for a commercial or high-occupancy residential entry.
- You may need a different model if: The installation is a single residential property or small office - a standard Hikvision DS-KD series PoE door station is easier to power, simpler to configure, and better proportioned for lower-volume access requirements.
- Pairs well with: Hikvision indoor monitors, a compatible access controller or NVR with intercom integration, and a structured Cat6 network switch to handle the gigabit Ethernet connection cleanly across the building.
Common Questions
-
Does this door station work without an internet connection once it is set up?
Yes. The facial recognition database on the DS-KD9403-E6 is stored locally on the device, so authentication and door release operate without an active internet connection. Network connectivity is required for remote management, software updates, and integration with a central Hikvision intercom management platform, but day-to-day access control continues to function in a LAN-only or offline state. -
Will this door station work with non-Hikvision indoor monitors or access controllers?
This is not confirmed. The DS-KD9403-E6 is designed to operate within the Hikvision intercom and access control ecosystem. SIP compatibility with third-party systems is not listed in the confirmed specification data for this model - integrators planning to connect it to non-Hikvision infrastructure should verify interoperability before specifying the unit. -
How many door stations can be connected to one DS-KD9403-E6 system?
Up to 16 sub door stations. The DS-KD9403-E6 acts as the primary station and supports 16 additional sub door stations within the same networked system. This makes it appropriate for buildings with multiple access points - car parks, service entries, secondary pedestrian gates - that all need to be managed under one intercom architecture. -
Does the DS-KD9403-E6 support PoE or does it need a separate power supply?
No, it does not support PoE. The unit requires a dedicated 12VDC 2A power supply, which must be run separately to the network cable. This is an important planning consideration during rough-in - you will need both a data cable and a power cable to the installation point. Confirm your power supply capacity if you are connecting multiple door stations in the same network run. -
Is this unit available off the shelf or does it need to be ordered in?
It is a special order item. The DS-KD9403-E6 is stocked by Security Australia as a special order product, meaning it is not held in standard warehouse stock. Lead times apply and should be confirmed at the time of quoting to ensure the unit fits within your project delivery schedule. -
Will this door station handle Australian outdoor conditions including direct sun and coastal humidity?
Yes, within its rated specifications. The IP65 rating protects against dust and direct water jets, and the operating temperature extends to 60°C - sufficient for most Australian outdoor environments including sun-exposed northern Queensland installations. The 10% to 90% humidity operating range also covers coastal environments. The anodized aluminium frame resists corrosion better than painted or plastic housings in salt-air conditions. -
What is the difference between the 10,000-face capacity and the 20,000-user capacity on this unit?
They measure different things. The 20,000-user capacity refers to the total number of access credential records the system can hold across all authentication methods. The 10,000-face capacity is the subset of those users who have a facial profile enrolled. A user can exist in the system with only a card credential and count toward the 20,000 total without occupying any of the facial database slots - allowing you to mix face-recognised regulars with card-only visitors or contractors without reducing your facial recognition headroom.
Cabling Considerations
- Network Cable: Cat5e minimum, Cat6 recommended. The unit uses a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet interface - Cat6 ensures the gigabit connection is fully supported across longer runs and allows headroom for future system upgrades.
- Power Cable: A separate 12VDC 2A power supply is required. Run a suitable DC power cable alongside the network cable during rough-in. Do not attempt to power this unit from a PoE switch - it is not PoE compatible.
- Max Cable Run: Standard Ethernet limits of 100 m apply for Cat5e/Cat6. For longer site distances, use a managed switch or media converter at an intermediate point rather than extending the cable run.
- Wiring Tips: Terminate conduit at the back of the unit's wall mount box during rough-in to allow clean cable entry without visible surface runs. Leave sufficient service loop inside the wall box to allow the unit to be removed for maintenance without disconnecting cabling at the switch end.
