Product Overview
Model: iDS-9632NXI-M8/X
Who This Is For
Security integrators specifying the head-end for large commercial, government, or multi-site deployments will find the Hikvision DeepinMind iDS-9632NXI-M8/X built around a different priority than a standard NVR - deep learning AI processing at scale. With 32 channels, 8 SATA bays, and onboard DeepinMind algorithms handling face recognition, perimeter intrusion, and vehicle detection without relying on the camera to do the heavy lifting, this unit suits enterprise installations where the recorder itself needs to be the intelligence layer. Typical applications include corporate campuses, retail chains running centralised monitoring, transport hubs, and education facilities where operators need searchable, AI-filtered footage across dozens of cameras rather than manual playback review. If the brief calls for a high-channel 4K recorder with serious on-device analytics and mass storage capacity, this is the unit to specify.
What This NVR Actually Does
DeepinMind AI Processing
Onboard deep learning algorithms run face recognition, vehicle detection, and perimeter analytics directly on the NVR. This means the unit can process AI events from non-AI cameras, extending intelligent detection across your existing or mixed-brand IP camera fleet without upgrading every endpoint.
32-Channel 4K Recording
Handles up to 32 simultaneous IP camera feeds at resolutions up to 4K (8MP). Incoming bandwidth reaches 320 Mbps, giving integrators headroom to run high-resolution cameras across all channels without frame-rate compromises or bottlenecking at the recorder.
8-Bay Mass Storage Architecture
Eight SATA drive bays support high-capacity surveillance HDDs for extended retention across all 32 channels. The multi-bay design also enables RAID configurations (0, 1, 5, 10) for redundancy, meaning a single drive failure does not result in footage loss on critical installations.
Face Recognition & Search
DeepinMind face recognition allows operators to search recorded footage by face attributes or match against watchlists. For investigations or access audits across a 32-camera site, this reduces review time from hours to minutes by filtering results algorithmically rather than scrubbing timelines manually.
Dual HDMI 4K Output
Two independent HDMI outputs let operators run a primary monitoring workstation and a secondary display wall or management screen simultaneously. Both support 4K output, so high-resolution camera feeds are displayed at full fidelity on compatible monitors without downscaling.
H.265+ Compression
H.265+ encoding significantly reduces storage consumption compared to H.264 across the same footage quality and frame rate. On a 32-channel system running 24/7, this difference in storage efficiency has a direct impact on HDD count, retention periods, and total infrastructure cost.
Who Buys This Model
- Commercial Security Integrators: Specifying a high-channel AI head-end for corporate campuses, government facilities, or retail chains where centralised face recognition and perimeter analytics are required across 16-32 cameras from a single rack-mounted unit.
- Education and Campus Facilities Teams: Running large multi-building camera networks where DeepinMind search tools allow security staff to locate individuals across recorded footage quickly without manually reviewing hours of timeline across dozens of cameras.
- Transport and Logistics Operators: Monitoring vehicle movements, loading dock access, and perimeter intrusion across large yards or depots, using the NVR's onboard vehicle detection and line-crossing analytics tied to 4K camera feeds.
- IT and Physical Security Convergence Projects: Enterprise environments specifying RAID-protected storage for chain-of-evidence or compliance footage retention, where a single drive failure cannot result in data loss under their security policy requirements.
- Multi-Site Monitoring Centres: Operators centralising remote site feeds into a single high-channel recorder who need the processing capability to run AI event filtering across all channels simultaneously rather than reviewing raw feeds manually.
Honest Assessment
The iDS-9632NXI-M8/X does something most NVRs in this channel range do not - it puts the AI processing engine inside the recorder rather than distributing it entirely across the camera endpoints. That makes it genuinely useful for sites mixing older IP cameras with newer AI-capable models, or where budget constraints mean not every camera can be a DeepinMind-compatible endpoint. The 8-bay RAID-capable architecture, 320 Mbps bandwidth ceiling, and dual 4K HDMI outputs are all appropriate for a serious enterprise installation rather than a scaled-up residential setup. Where this unit will not suit: it is not a solution for small or single-site installs where a 16-channel or 8-channel NVR at a lower price point covers the requirement. It also does not include a built-in PoE switch, so an external managed switch is required for camera connectivity - budget and rack space for that infrastructure needs to be factored in. Available through Security Australia, this unit is positioned as a professional integration product rather than an off-the-shelf consumer recorder.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: The iDS-9632NXI-M8/X does not include a built-in PoE switch. All 32 camera channels connect via your network infrastructure, so a managed PoE switch with sufficient throughput to handle the full 320 Mbps incoming bandwidth load is required. Factor switch port count, PoE budget (watts per port vs camera draw), and network segmentation into your site design before specifying this unit.
Storage Planning: With 8 SATA bays and 32 channels running at 4K, retention calculations are critical before selecting HDD capacity. If RAID 5 is required for redundancy, usable capacity is reduced to approximately 7 drives' worth of storage from 8 physical drives. Run a storage calculator based on your channel count, resolution, frame rate, and required retention days before committing to a drive configuration.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are specifying a 32-channel enterprise installation where onboard face recognition, perimeter intrusion analytics, and vehicle detection need to run at the NVR level across a mixed camera fleet - the DeepinMind processing engine handles AI events without requiring every camera to be a smart endpoint.
- Good match if: Your site policy requires RAID-protected footage storage for compliance or chain-of-evidence purposes - the 8-bay architecture supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10, so drive failure does not automatically mean footage loss.
- You may need a different model if: Your installation is under 16 channels or does not require onboard deep learning AI - a standard AcuSense NVR at a lower channel count will deliver smart detection at a more appropriate price point for smaller sites; the full range is available on securityaustralia.com.au.

Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need onboard DeepinMind AI processing - face recognition, vehicle detection, and perimeter analytics running at the NVR level across 32 channels, particularly where not every camera in the system is an AI-capable endpoint.
- You may need a different model if: Your channel requirement is 16 or below, or AI analytics are not a project requirement - a standard AcuSense NVR at a lower channel count will handle smart detection events at a significantly lower cost point; the full Hikvision NVR range is available on securityaustralia.com.au.
- Pairs well with: A managed Gigabit PoE switch (sized to handle the full 32-channel camera load and total PoE wattage), along with surveillance-rated high-capacity HDDs matched to your retention and RAID requirements.
Common Questions
-
Does the iDS-9632NXI-M8/X have a built-in PoE switch for cameras?
No. The iDS-9632NXI-M8/X does not include a built-in PoE switch. All 32 camera channels connect through your existing network infrastructure. You will need a managed Gigabit PoE switch with sufficient port count and PoE wattage budget to power and carry data from all connected cameras to the NVR. -
Will this NVR run AI analytics on non-AI cameras?
Yes. The DeepinMind processing engine operates at the NVR level, which means it can run face recognition, vehicle detection, and perimeter intrusion analytics on footage from standard IP cameras that do not have onboard AI capability. This makes it practical for upgrading existing installations without replacing every camera endpoint. -
What RAID levels does the 8-bay configuration support?
RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 are all supported across the 8 SATA bays. For most professional installations where footage continuity is required, RAID 5 is the common choice - it provides single-drive failure tolerance while retaining the equivalent of 7 drives' usable storage from 8 physical drives. RAID configuration is set during initial system commissioning. -
How much storage does this NVR actually need for 32 channels at 4K?
It depends on frame rate, compression, and scene complexity - but as a working estimate, 32 channels at 4K running H.265+ at 15fps continuous recording will consume roughly 40-60TB per month without motion-only recording enabled. With 8 bays supporting high-capacity surveillance HDDs, storage planning should be run against your specific retention requirement before selecting drive capacity. H.265+ compression reduces storage consumption significantly compared to H.264 across equivalent quality settings. -
Does face recognition on the DeepinMind NVR require a separate software licence?
Face recognition on the iDS-9632NXI-M8/X is processed by the onboard DeepinMind chip rather than a separate server or cloud subscription. Functionality is delivered through the unit's firmware and the Hikvision iVMS-4200 or HikCentral management platform. Confirm with your installer whether specific advanced features such as watchlist matching require additional channel activation licences on your version of the management software. -
What happens to recordings if the network connection between cameras and the NVR drops?
ANR (Automatic Network Replenishment) is supported. If a camera loses its network connection to the NVR, cameras equipped with a local SD card will continue recording to that card. Once the network connection is restored, footage captured during the outage is automatically synced back to the NVR, closing the gap in the central archive without manual intervention. -
Can the 2 HDMI outputs run different content simultaneously?
Yes. The 2 independent HDMI outputs can display different content at the same time - for example, a live camera grid on one monitor and an AI event timeline or face search results on the second. Both outputs support 4K resolution on compatible displays, so neither screen is forced to downscale high-resolution camera feeds during simultaneous operation. -
Is the iDS-9632NXI-M8/X rack-mounted and what are the power requirements?
Yes, this is a rack-mount unit designed for installation in a standard 19-inch server rack or security equipment rack. For exact power consumption figures, rack unit height, and electrical specifications, refer to the Hikvision product datasheet. Ensure your rack has adequate ventilation and that your UPS capacity covers the NVR load plus any connected network switch - continuous operation makes power protection essential for this class of equipment.
