Product Overview
Model: iDS-2CD7546G0-IZHS(Y)(R)
Who This Is For
When getting the framing exactly right from the ceiling or eave is the priority, the Hikvision iDS-2CD7546G0 DeepInView dome is built for that. The motorised varifocal lens spans 2.8 to 12 mm, meaning installers can dial in the field of view from the NVR without touching a ladder again after mounting. That matters on a 6-metre ceiling above a retail floor, a hotel corridor, or a carpark entry where repositioning a fixed-lens camera would mean a complete reinstall. The DeepInView sensor - a large-format 1/1.8" CMOS - pushes colour imaging down to 0.0005 lux, so the camera holds colour well after dark without relying entirely on IR. Add IK10 vandal resistance, IP67 weatherproofing, and deep learning analytics covering face recognition, multi-target classification, and perimeter protection, and this is a dome built for commercial and light-industrial sites where image quality and on-camera intelligence both matter.
What This Camera Actually Does
Motorised Varifocal Lens
The 2.8-12 mm motorised lens lets you adjust focal length and zoom remotely after the camera is mounted. No manual lens ring access needed. Useful on high ceilings or hard-to-reach positions where refining the coverage angle post-installation would otherwise require a second site visit.
DarkFighter Low-Light Imaging
The 1/1.8" CMOS sensor achieves colour imaging at 0.0005 lux - enough to retain usable colour in dimly lit carparks, stairwells, or corridors where standard sensors switch to black and white. IR extends coverage to 30 metres when ambient light is completely absent.
140 dB Wide Dynamic Range
140 dB WDR handles scenes where bright light and deep shadow appear in the same frame - entrance lobbies with exterior glare, roller door openings, or retail facades. Detail is retained in both the bright and dark portions of the image simultaneously.
Deep Learning Analytics
On-camera deep learning handles face recognition, multi-target-type classification (people vs vehicles), and perimeter protection rules including line crossing and intrusion detection. These run on the camera itself, reducing server load and cutting false alerts compared to basic motion detection.
IK10 Vandal Resistance
IK10 is the highest impact-protection rating in common use, tested against 20-joule strikes. Combined with IP67 dust and water resistance, the housing is suited to exposed outdoor positions - undercover carparks, building facades, and publicly accessible corridors where dome tampering is a realistic risk.
Two-Way Audio
A built-in microphone and speaker support real-time two-way audio. Operators can speak directly to people in the camera's field of view from a remote workstation - useful for retail loss prevention, building entry management, or issuing verbal warnings without deploying on-site staff.
Who Buys This Model
- Commercial Installers: Specifying cameras for multi-tenancy buildings, office towers, or retail centres where ceiling height makes fixed-lens framing impractical and motorised adjustment from the NVR saves significant labour on commissioning.
- Carpark Operators: Needing colour imaging at low ambient light levels across covered or underground bays, where the DarkFighter sensor holds colour detail that standard cameras lose after dark.
- Retail Loss Prevention Teams: Using on-camera face recognition and two-way audio together - the deep learning analytics flag known individuals while operators can issue direct verbal responses without escalating to floor staff.
- Hotel and Hospitality Security Managers: Deploying IK10-rated cameras in guest corridors and public areas where vandal resistance is a specification requirement and discreet dome form factor matters for aesthetics.
- Light Industrial Sites: Running perimeter protection rules - line crossing and intrusion detection - on the camera itself to generate actionable alerts without relying on a separate analytics server.
Honest Assessment
The iDS-2CD7546G0 DeepInView dome does several things genuinely well. The motorised varifocal lens is a real time-saver on difficult installs - adjusting coverage remotely after mounting is a practical advantage on high or obstructed positions. The 1/1.8" DarkFighter sensor is a standout: 0.0005 lux colour sensitivity and 140 dB WDR in the same housing is uncommon at this form factor, and the IK10 rating adds physical credibility for exposed positions. On-camera deep learning analytics - face recognition, multi-target classification, perimeter rules - reduce dependence on server-side processing. Where this camera will not serve you: the 30-metre IR range is modest for open outdoor areas like paddocks, yards, or long driveways - a bullet or PTZ camera with extended IR would be more appropriate for those scenarios. It is also a dome, so it lacks the visible deterrence profile of an overt bullet. Available through Security Australia, this is a camera aimed squarely at commercial and light-industrial installs where image quality, analytics, and installation flexibility carry more weight than raw IR distance.
Before You Buy
Motorised Lens Commissioning: The motorised varifocal requires initialisation through the camera's web interface or compatible VMS before remote zoom and focus adjustment is available. Budget time at commissioning to step through the lens initialisation process for each unit - skipping this step leaves the motorised function inactive. Confirm your NVR or VMS supports Hikvision's motorised lens control protocol before specifying this camera across a large site.
Deep Learning Analytics Activation: Face recognition and multi-target-type detection on this camera are deep learning functions that may require enabling per-channel in the VMS or NVR configuration. Verify your recording platform supports the iDS-series analytics output - older or third-party NVRs may receive video but not parse the structured metadata needed to action analytics-based alerts.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are mounting on a ceiling 4 metres or higher and need to finalise the framing angle after physical installation - the motorised 2.8-12 mm lens makes post-mount adjustment straightforward from the NVR.
- Good match if: Your site has mixed lighting conditions - bright entry points combined with shadowed interior zones - where 140 dB WDR and 0.0005 lux colour sensitivity genuinely matter for consistent image quality across a single camera view.
- You may need a different model if: Your primary requirement is covering open outdoor distances beyond 30 metres at night - a long-range IR bullet or PTZ with extended IR illumination will serve that scenario better.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need a commercial-grade dome that combines a large-format low-light sensor, motorised remote zoom, IK10 vandal resistance, and on-camera deep learning analytics in a single weatherproof housing.
- You may need a different model if: Your site requires coverage of open outdoor distances beyond 30 metres at night - a long-range IR bullet or PTZ with extended illumination will deliver better results at that distance.
- Pairs well with: A Hikvision DeepInMind NVR or compatible VMS that can ingest and action the on-camera deep learning metadata - face recognition and classification alerts require a recording platform capable of processing structured analytics data from the iDS-series.
Common Questions
-
Does this camera work with a standard PoE switch?
Yes, in most cases - but check your switch's power budget. The camera is powered via PoE over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable. Standard IEEE 802.3af PoE delivers up to 15.4 W per port; confirm your specific switch port meets the camera's power draw before deploying across a multi-camera run from a single switch. -
Will this camera hold colour footage at night without switching to black and white?
Yes, down to 0.0005 lux. The DarkFighter 1/1.8" sensor holds colour imaging in very low ambient light conditions - covered carparks, dimly lit corridors, and undercover entry points. When ambient light drops to near-zero, the camera switches to IR-assisted monochrome, with IR range up to 30 metres. -
Does the motorised lens mean I can adjust the zoom after the camera is mounted?
Yes. The 2.8-12 mm motorised varifocal lens adjusts remotely via the camera's web interface or compatible VMS after physical installation. This is particularly useful on high or obstructed mounting positions. Note that the lens requires an initialisation step during setup before remote adjustment is available - this is done in the configuration interface, not on the camera itself. -
What does the 140 dB WDR actually mean in a real installation?
It means the camera can handle a contrast ratio of 140 decibels between the brightest and darkest parts of a scene in the same frame. In practice, this covers scenarios like a roller door opening (bright exterior behind a dark interior), a lobby with floor-to-ceiling glass, or a retail entrance facing direct sunlight - situations where cameras with lower WDR ratings will blow out highlights or lose shadow detail. -
Does the face recognition on this camera require a separate server to process?
No - the deep learning processing runs on the camera's own chip. Face recognition, multi-target-type classification, and perimeter protection rules are all executed on-camera without requiring a dedicated analytics server. However, to action alerts and search results from face recognition, your NVR or VMS must be compatible with Hikvision's iDS-series metadata output. Not all third-party recording platforms support this structured data format. Security Australia stocks compatible Hikvision NVRs if you need to confirm platform compatibility. -
What is the effective zoom ratio of the motorised varifocal lens, and what coverage does it provide at each end?
The lens covers 2.8 mm to 12 mm, a 4.3x optical zoom range. At 2.8 mm the horizontal field of view is 114.5 degrees - suitable for covering wide open areas like a carpark aisle or lobby floor. At 12 mm the horizontal field of view narrows to 41.8 degrees, concentrating detail on a specific zone such as a checkout counter, doorway, or entry point from a greater distance. The motorised drive lets you set any point between these extremes remotely after mounting. -
What is the IK10 rating and does it make the dome genuinely vandal-proof?
IK10 is the highest standard impact protection rating under IEC 62262, tested to withstand a 20-joule impact - roughly equivalent to a 5 kg mass dropped from 40 cm. It significantly increases resistance to physical interference but does not make the camera indestructible. In combination with IP67 weatherproofing, the housing is rated for exposed public-facing positions where opportunistic tampering is a realistic risk, but deliberate sustained attack with tools remains outside the scope of any IP/IK-rated housing.
