Product Overview

Model: HIK-2CD4665IZHS2

Who This Is For

For installers and security managers who need a high-resolution outdoor bullet camera capable of covering long approaches, perimeter fences, or access roads where both daytime detail and consistent night-time performance are non-negotiable. The Hikvision HIK-2CD4665IZHS2 delivers 6MP video at 24 frames per second with a 2.8-12mm motorised auto-focus lens, giving you the flexibility to dial in your field of view precisely after mounting - particularly useful on sites where access for camera adjustments is awkward. At 70 metres of IR range and IP66 weather protection, it handles exposed industrial and commercial environments without compromise. The built-in smart analytics suite - including intrusion detection, line crossing, and object left or removed detection - makes it a practical fit for sites requiring behavioural event detection rather than simple motion alerts. Best suited to commercial, industrial, and critical infrastructure applications where camera count is limited and each unit needs to carry more analytical weight.

What This Camera Actually Does

6MP Resolution at 24fps

Six megapixels gives you significantly more usable image area than a standard 4MP or 1080p camera. At 24 frames per second, fast-moving subjects - vehicles, personnel on foot - are captured with enough clarity to extract workable still frames for post-event review.

2.8-12mm Motorised Auto-Focus Lens

The motorised varifocal lens lets you adjust zoom and focus remotely through your NVR or VMS - no physical access to the camera required after installation. This is practical on elevated mounts, rooflines, or sites where scaffolding is not an option for fine-tuning.

70m Infrared Range

The high-performance IR array illuminates out to 70 metres, covering long driveways, loading approaches, or perimeter runs where ambient lighting is unreliable. Combined with 6MP resolution, usable subject detail is maintained well beyond what shorter-range IR cameras can produce at the same distance.

Wide Dynamic Range (WDR)

WDR compensates for scenes with extreme contrast - a vehicle entering a shaded loading dock from bright daylight, or a gate where direct sun hits the lens at certain times. Without it, either the bright areas blow out or shadow detail disappears. WDR keeps both zones usable simultaneously.

Smart Analytics Suite

On-camera analytics include intrusion detection, line crossing, area entering and leaving, object left or removed, scene change, face detection, object counting, and audio event detection. These run locally on the camera and can trigger alerts without relying on the NVR to carry the processing load.

IP66 Weatherproof Housing

IP66 means full dust ingress protection and resistance to heavy rain and direct water jets. This housing rating is appropriate for exposed outdoor positions - rooflines, fence lines, and building exteriors in Australian conditions including coastal or high-rainfall environments.

Who Buys This Model

  • Industrial Site Managers: Facilities with long perimeter runs, loading docks, or access roads where 70m IR and 6MP detail are needed to capture vehicle and personnel activity in poor light without deploying additional cameras.
  • Security Integrators on Commercial Fitouts: Installers who need to lock in camera positions during rough-in and fine-tune field of view during commissioning without returning to the mount - the motorised lens handles both stages from the NVR interface.
  • Warehouse and Logistics Operators: Sites where object left, object removed, and line crossing detection are operationally relevant - monitoring staging areas, restricted zones, or dock entries where behavioural events need to trigger recorded alerts.
  • Critical Infrastructure and Utility Sites: Applications where perimeter intrusion detection and scene change alerts need to run on the camera itself, reducing dependence on server-side analytics and maintaining alert capability even under network load.

Honest Assessment

The HIK-2CD4665IZHS2 does a specific job well: high-resolution outdoor coverage on long or exposed runs where you need IR reach, analytical capability, and the flexibility of a motorised lens in a rugged housing. The 6MP sensor combined with 70m IR puts it above the typical mid-range bullet in terms of what you can actually extract from footage at distance. The on-camera analytics suite is comprehensive for a bullet-class camera and reduces the processing demand on your recording platform. Where this camera is not the right tool: it does not produce colour night footage - IR illumination means monochrome after dark, so if full-colour low-light output is a requirement, a different camera type is more appropriate. It is also a fixed-direction bullet, so if wide-area coverage from a single position or optical zoom tracking is required, a PTZ or panoramic model will serve the application better. Available through Security Australia as part of the Hikvision 4-Line Smart range.

Before You Buy

Lens Adjustment: The 2.8-12mm motorised lens requires initial setup through a compatible Hikvision NVR or VMS that supports remote zoom and focus commands. Confirm your recording platform supports this before install - manually adjusting a motorised lens at the camera body is not reliable and may not produce accurate results. If your NVR does not support remote lens control, physical access during commissioning will be needed.

Analytics Configuration: The smart analytics on this camera - including intrusion zones, line crossing rules, and object detection - require configuration per camera through the NVR or web interface. Budget commissioning time for this if you are enabling multiple detection rules across several cameras on the same installation.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You are covering a long access road, driveway, or perimeter fence line where 70m IR range and 6MP resolution are needed to capture usable subject detail at distance in low-light conditions.
  • Good match if: Your site needs on-camera behavioural analytics - intrusion zones, line crossing, or object left detection - running independently without placing additional processing load on the NVR.
  • You may need a different model if: Your priority is full-colour night footage or wide-area monitoring from a single camera position - a TiOC full-colour bullet or a PTZ camera from the Security Australia range would be more appropriate for those requirements.

Real-World Scenarios

Warehouse Entry and Exit

Mounted above a roller door facing the approach road, the 70m IR range captures vehicles and personnel detail well before they reach the entry point. Line crossing detection alerts when movement occurs outside designated operating hours, triggering a recorded event without requiring operator monitoring.

Perimeter Fence Line

Positioned along an industrial perimeter, the motorised lens is dialled in remotely to align the field of view with the fence line after mounting. Intrusion detection zones are drawn across the camera's view, so any object crossing into the exclusion area generates an immediate alert.

Loading Dock in Mixed Light

WDR handles the contrast between a bright outdoor yard and a shaded dock interior, keeping both zones in a usable exposure range. Object left and object removed detection flags unattended goods or missing stock in the staging area between truck arrivals.

Construction Site After Hours

Temporary pole-mounted on a construction site with no permanent lighting, the IR array covers equipment storage areas in complete darkness at 70m. Area entering and leaving detection is configured to cover high-value plant, with alerts logged to the NVR for morning review.

Remote Rural Property Gate

Mounted on a gate post at a rural property entry, the IP66 housing handles rain, dust, and temperature variation without degradation. The motorised lens is configured for a tight field of view covering the gate approach, and face detection is enabled for post-event identification review.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need a fixed outdoor bullet with genuine long-range IR coverage, 6MP resolution, a remotely adjustable motorised lens, and on-camera smart analytics that operate independently of NVR processing capacity.
  • You may need a different model if: Full-colour night-time footage is a requirement - a TiOC or full-colour outdoor camera type will deliver colour in low or zero ambient light, which IR-based cameras cannot. Similarly, if your application requires horizontal pan, optical zoom tracking, or wide-area coverage from one mounting position, a PTZ or multi-sensor panoramic camera type is more appropriate.
  • Pairs well with: A Hikvision 4K or 4-Line compatible NVR with smart event support and remote lens control capability, ensuring the motorised lens and on-camera analytics are fully accessible from the recording platform.

Common Questions

  1. Does this camera produce colour footage at night?

No. The HIK-2CD4665IZHS2 uses infrared illumination, which produces monochrome (black and white) footage in low or zero ambient light conditions. The IR array reaches 70 metres and provides strong subject detail at distance, but if full-colour night footage is a confirmed requirement for your site, a full-colour or TiOC outdoor bullet camera type is the appropriate alternative.
  2. Can I adjust the lens remotely after the camera is installed?

Yes, provided your NVR or VMS supports remote lens control for Hikvision motorised varifocal cameras. The 2.8-12mm motorised auto-focus lens is designed to be zoomed and focused from the recording interface, eliminating the need to physically access the camera after mounting. Confirm your NVR supports this function before installation - not all recording platforms expose remote lens controls through their interface.
  3. Will this camera work for a site that needs intrusion zone detection?

Yes. Intrusion detection is part of the on-camera analytics suite on the HIK-2CD4665IZHS2. You can define multiple detection zones within the camera's field of view through the NVR or camera web interface. When an object enters a defined zone, the camera triggers a recorded event. Line crossing detection and area entering and leaving detection are also included, giving you layered options depending on how your perimeter or zone boundaries are configured.
  4. Is the IP66 rating sufficient for exposed outdoor positions in Australian conditions?

Yes. IP66 provides complete protection against dust ingress and resistance to heavy rain and direct water jets, which is appropriate for most Australian outdoor installations including exposed eaves, fence line mounts, and coastal environments subject to salt air and heavy rainfall. It is not rated for submersion, so avoid mounting positions where standing water may accumulate around the housing.
  5. Does the WDR on this camera help with vehicle headlight glare at night?

Yes, to a practical degree. Wide Dynamic Range is primarily designed to manage scenes with simultaneous bright and dark zones - a vehicle entering from a lit street into a darker property, or a gate camera facing oncoming headlights. WDR helps retain detail in both the bright and shadowed parts of that scene that would otherwise be lost. It does not eliminate all headlight glare, but it significantly improves subject detail compared to cameras without WDR in the same scenario.
  6. What does object left and object removed detection actually do on this camera?

It detects when a stationary object appears in a defined area (object left) or disappears from it (object removed), triggering a recorded alert. Practical uses include monitoring a dock staging area for unattended bags or packages, tracking high-value equipment in a yard, or flagging when items are removed from a secure storage zone outside authorised hours. The detection zones and sensitivity are configured through the camera or NVR interface. This analytics feature is part of the Hikvision 4-Line Smart range and runs on-camera without additional server processing. The full analytics suite is outlined in the product listing at Security Australia.
