Product Overview

Model: DS-2XS6A46G1-P-IZS-C36S80

Who This Is For

Site managers dealing with remote gate entries, rural access roads, or unmanned construction compounds where trenching mains power and laying data cabling simply is not viable. The Hikvision DS-2XS6A46G1/P-IZS/C36S80 is a self-contained solar ANPR bullet camera kit that combines a 4MP motorised varifocal camera, built-in 4G LTE transmission, onboard number plate recognition, and an 80W solar panel into a single deployable unit. There is no electrician required, no conduit, and no dependence on an existing network. The 4G uplink sends plate data and footage directly to a monitoring platform or VMS, making this a genuine fit for councils managing rural reserves, agricultural operations monitoring livestock gate access, or security contractors installing temporary surveillance on development sites where infrastructure does not yet exist.

What This System Actually Does

Onboard ANPR Processing

Number plate recognition runs directly on the camera's embedded processor, not on a remote server. Plate data, capture time, and vehicle image are logged and transmitted the moment a vehicle passes, with no round-trip to a central AI engine required. This matters on 4G connections where latency is real.

4G LTE Connectivity

Built-in 4G LTE replaces the need for any fixed network connection. Insert a data SIM and the camera registers on a cellular network. Plate reads, alerts, and live video stream through the same connection. No on-site switch, NVR, or cabling infrastructure required at the pole.

80W Solar Panel with Battery Backup

The included 80W panel charges an onboard battery that sustains operation through overnight periods and overcast weather. This is a complete off-grid power solution bundled with the kit, not an optional accessory requiring a separate purchase or compatibility check.

4MP Motorised Varifocal Lens

The motorised varifocal lens (IZS) lets installers adjust the focal length remotely or via the camera menu after mounting, removing the need to re-position the camera physically during commissioning. 4MP resolution provides the image detail that ANPR processing requires to read plates accurately at distance.

IP67 Weatherproof Bullet Housing

The bullet form factor includes a built-in sun shield and IP67 dust and water ingress protection. Designed for permanent outdoor pole or post mounting, the housing handles Australian coastal salt air, outback dust, and sustained rain without additional enclosures or weatherproofing accessories.

Who Buys This Model

  • Rural and agricultural operators: Farmers and station managers monitoring gate access to properties where the nearest power point may be kilometres away. The solar kit eliminates the need for an electrician and the 4G link removes any dependence on on-site network infrastructure.
  • Construction site security contractors: Temporary surveillance deployments on development sites that have no mains power connected yet. The unit installs on a pole, self-powers, and can be relocated when the project moves to the next stage.
  • Local councils and reserve managers: Monitoring vehicle access to parks, boat ramps, tip sites, and recreation areas where the council needs a log of registered plates but cannot justify the cost of trenching power and data to a remote entry point.
  • Logistics and transport operators: Depot entrances or weighbridge approaches in semi-remote locations where logging incoming and outgoing vehicle plates is an operational requirement and connecting to fixed infrastructure is not practical.

Honest Assessment

The DS-2XS6A46G1/P-IZS/C36S80 solves a problem that no standard network camera can - combining ANPR, 4G, and solar into a single deployable kit that genuinely works in locations without any existing infrastructure. The onboard plate recognition means you get structured data from every vehicle pass without needing a dedicated ANPR server, and the motorised varifocal lens means you can dial in the capture angle precisely after the camera is mounted. These are real operational advantages on remote sites. Where this kit will not suit: it is not designed for high-volume, high-speed multi-lane ANPR such as motorway tolling or car park boom gate automation requiring sub-second response across multiple lanes simultaneously - a fixed infrastructure ANPR system with dedicated capture lighting and lane management would be more appropriate for that workload. Ongoing 4G data costs also need to be factored into the total cost of ownership, and SIM provisioning is the installer's responsibility. Available through Security Australia, this kit suits controlled-access single-lane approaches at vehicle speeds typical of a site entry.

Before You Buy

Solar Orientation and Panel Angle: The 80W panel must be oriented to maximise sun hours for your specific latitude and site. In southern Australian locations with heavy tree shading or eastwest-facing mounting constraints, battery reserve during extended overcast periods may be reduced. Assess daily sun hours at the install location before committing to pole position - panel tilt and azimuth directly affect how many continuous cloudy days the system can sustain operation through.

ANPR Capture Geometry: The motorised varifocal lens needs to be set so the vehicle approach is at a shallow angle (ideally 15-30 degrees to the camera axis) and plate height fills a consistent portion of the frame. Too steep an angle or too wide a focal setting will reduce plate recognition accuracy. Commission the lens zoom and focus with actual vehicles at the expected entry speed before signing off the installation.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You need to log vehicle plates at a remote single-lane gate or access point with no mains power and no fixed network - the solar panel, battery, 4G, and onboard ANPR are all included in this kit.
  • Good match if: Your site requires a temporary or relocatable surveillance solution where re-deploying a cabled camera would require an electrician each time - the self-contained solar 4G design means a new pole mount is all that is needed to move the system.
  • You may need a different model if: Your application involves multi-lane high-speed ANPR, boom gate integration requiring millisecond trigger response, or sites with mains power available where a fixed-infrastructure ANPR bullet or dedicated ANPR capture camera would deliver higher throughput and more consistent performance.

Real-World Scenarios

Remote Farm Gate

A cattle station with multiple access gates kilometres from the homestead. The solar kit mounts on a timber post beside each gate. Every vehicle plate is logged with a timestamp and transmitted over 4G - no power trenching, no network cabling, no on-site NVR required.

Construction Site Entry

A greenfield development site where the builder needs a vehicle access log before mains power is connected. The camera deploys on a temporary pole at the site entrance, runs on solar from day one, and can be relocated to the next project when the build completes.

Council Boat Ramp

A boat ramp in a coastal reserve where the council needs to track permit compliance and log access hours. There is no power at the site. The solar camera reads every tow vehicle plate on entry and exit, and the 4G link sends the log to the council's system without any on-site infrastructure.

Unmanned Transfer Station

A rural tip or waste transfer station that operates without staff on site at all hours. The ANPR camera logs every vehicle attending outside monitored hours, providing the council with a time-stamped plate record for illegal dumping investigations without the cost of a manned station.

Mining Camp Access Road

A remote mine site where contractors and staff vehicles must be logged at the camp entry. The 4G uplink sends plate data in real time to the site manager's system, and the solar power source means the camera operates independently of the site's generator schedule.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: Your site has no mains power and no fixed network, and you need documented vehicle plate capture with 4G transmission from day one - this is the only format that delivers all three without additional hardware purchases.
  • You may need a different model if: Your location has reliable mains power and a fixed network connection - a dedicated wired ANPR bullet camera on a fixed infrastructure system will give you higher sustained throughput, consistent lighting control, and easier integration with barrier and boom gate hardware.
  • Pairs well with: A cloud-based ANPR management platform or VMS with 4G device support, and a steel or aluminium heavy-duty camera mounting pole rated for outdoor exposure.

Common Questions

  1. Does this kit include everything needed to install at an off-grid site?

Yes, with one exception. The DS-2XS6A46G1/P-IZS/C36S80 includes the 4MP ANPR bullet camera and the 80W solar panel as a matched kit. The camera has a built-in battery, built-in 4G LTE modem, and onboard ANPR processing. The only item not included is a data SIM card - you will need to source and provision a suitable 4G data SIM from your preferred carrier before the camera can transmit.
  2. Will this camera work through an Australian winter with limited sun?

It depends on your specific site conditions. The 80W solar panel is sized to sustain the camera through typical day-night cycles, but extended overcast periods in higher-latitude locations with significant winter cloud cover can reduce battery reserve. Sites in southern Victoria or Tasmania with heavy winter shading should assess average daily sun hours and consider whether supplementary battery capacity is appropriate for their operational requirements.
  3. What vehicle speeds will the ANPR accurately read plates at?

The onboard ANPR on this model is suited to controlled-access, low-to-moderate speed approaches typical of site entries, farm gates, and parking areas - generally vehicles approaching at walking-to-slowing speed rather than open-road or highway velocity. The camera is not rated for free-flow highway ANPR where vehicles pass at 80km/h or above. For gate and boom gate style applications where vehicles slow to enter, the capture geometry and shutter speed settings can be configured via the camera's interface to optimise plate read accuracy for your specific entry conditions.
  4. Does the motorised varifocal lens need to be set up on a laptop at the camera, or can it be adjusted remotely?

The motorised varifocal lens (IZS) can be adjusted remotely via the camera's web interface or compatible VMS once the 4G connection is active. This means an installer can make fine focal adjustments from a vehicle or site office without returning to the pole. Initial commissioning still requires access to confirm the camera is aimed correctly and capturing plates at the right frame size, but lens zoom and focus do not require a physical tool at the camera head.
  5. How does the ANPR handle partial or dirty plates?

Onboard ANPR performs best with clean, unobstructed plates in consistent lighting conditions. Heavily soiled plates, non-standard plate formats, or plates partially blocked by a tow bar or trailer hitch will reduce recognition confidence. The camera logs a confidence score with each read, allowing your management platform to flag low-confidence captures for manual review rather than discarding them entirely. Configuring the capture angle to minimise trailer obstruction during commissioning will improve overall read rate on sites with heavy towing traffic.
  6. Does this camera integrate with third-party VMS or access control platforms?

Yes. The camera communicates over standard IP protocols and the ANPR data output is compatible with Hikvision's own platform (iVMS-4200, HikCentral) as well as third-party VMS platforms that support Hikvision ANPR data streams via ISAPI or SDK integration. If you are specifying this camera for integration with an existing access control or vehicle management system, confirm your platform's specific Hikvision ANPR compatibility with your software vendor before installation. Security Australia can advise on platform compatibility questions prior to purchase.
  7. Is a single-lane approach required, or can this camera cover multiple entry lanes simultaneously?

A single-lane approach is required for reliable ANPR. The onboard processor reads one plate capture at a time, and the lens field of view is optimised for a single lane at a defined distance. Multi-lane ANPR - where 2 or more vehicles pass side by side simultaneously - requires dedicated multi-camera or specialised wide-angle ANPR capture equipment with independent lane triggers. This kit is the correct choice for single controlled-lane entries; for multi-lane applications a fixed-infrastructure ANPR system with per-lane cameras is the appropriate product type.
