Hikvision DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW 2MP 60× DarkFighter Laser Network Speed Dome, Up to 500m Laser, IP67 IK10
The DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW delivers long-range surveillance capability for large perimeters, critical infrastructure, and wide-area monitoring applications where fixed cameras simply can't reach. Its 60× optical zoom paired with a 500m laser illuminator means operators can identify detail at distances that most PTZ cameras cannot even illuminate. Rated IP67 and IK10, this unit is built for permanent outdoor installation in exposed or high-risk environments.
Why This Model
- 500m laser illumination: The laser IR system throws usable light up to 500m, meaning the 60× zoom can actually resolve detail at range - not just reach it optically in darkness.
- 60× optical zoom: A 60× zoom range gives operators the flexibility to monitor an entire scene in wide view, then close in on a specific person or vehicle without repositioning the camera.
- IK10 + IP67 rated housing: IK10 vandal resistance combined with IP67 weatherproofing makes this suitable for exposed rooftops, ports, and critical infrastructure sites where both weather and tampering are genuine risks.

Product Overview
Model: DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW
Who This Is For
When long-range identification across open ground is the priority, the Hikvision DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW is built for exactly that task. Security integrators specifying coverage for ports, rail yards, large industrial compounds, perimeter fences, and open-cut mining sites will recognise what 60× optical zoom combined with 500m laser illumination actually means at 2 in the morning - usable, detailed imagery at distances where standard PTZ cameras produce nothing useful. This is a camera for site security managers who need to read a vehicle plate or identify a person at the far end of a loading area from a single camera position, and for installers who need to justify fewer camera runs across very large sites. IP67 weatherproofing and IK10 impact resistance make it appropriate for exposed outdoor mounting in Australian coastal and industrial environments where the hardware takes a beating.
What This Camera Actually Does
60× Optical Zoom
60× optical zoom means the camera can bring a subject at 500m into the same apparent size as one standing 8m away on a fixed camera. No digital zoom artefacts - the detail is optical. For large-site perimeter monitoring, this is the capability that reduces camera count and cabling cost substantially.
500m Laser Illumination
The integrated laser illuminator throws usable light to 500m in complete darkness - far beyond what standard IR LEDs can achieve. The laser automatically adjusts its angle to match the zoom position, keeping the illuminated zone aligned with what the lens is actually seeing at any focal length.
DarkFighter Low-Light Imaging
Hikvision DarkFighter uses a large-aperture lens and a high-sensitivity image sensor to capture usable colour and greyscale detail in near-darkness. Combined with the laser, this camera is engineered to perform in the low-ambient-light conditions typical of unlit industrial yards, rural sites, and waterfront facilities.
IP67 and IK10 Protection
IP67 means full dust ingress protection and water immersion resistance - this is not splash-rated, it is genuinely sealed. IK10 is the highest vandal resistance rating available, meaning the dome housing withstands a 20-joule impact. Both ratings matter for pole-mounted or exposed perimeter installations.
Speed Dome Pan/Tilt Movement
As a network speed dome, this camera delivers fast, precise motorised pan and tilt movement. Preset positions let operators return to pre-defined zones instantly, and patrol tours automate coverage across a sweep of ground - critical for sites where a single operator is managing a large footprint from a control room.
2MP Network Output
2MP (1080p) resolution is the working standard for identification-grade PTZ cameras at long range. At 60× zoom the sensor is resolving detail at extreme distance - chasing higher megapixel counts in a long-range PTZ adds storage load without proportional gain at the focal lengths this camera operates at.
Who Buys This Model
- Port and Waterfront Security Teams: Monitoring long wharves, vessel approaches, and container yards where subjects of interest are hundreds of metres away and ambient light is minimal after dark.
- Mining and Resources Site Integrators: Specifying perimeter coverage across open-cut sites and access roads where a single camera position with 60× zoom replaces multiple fixed cameras and their associated cable runs.
- Rail and Transport Infrastructure Operators: Covering long platform approaches, yard entries, and station perimeters where both distance coverage and IK10 impact resistance against deliberate damage are required.
- Large Industrial Compound Managers: Overseeing loading dock areas, fuel storage zones, and outer fences at facilities where security staff numbers are limited and camera-based monitoring must extend coverage effectively.
- Government and Critical Infrastructure Installers: Deploying at water treatment facilities, power substations, and border zones where both long-range laser reach and full IP67/IK10 environmental durability are specification requirements.
Honest Assessment
The DS-2DF8C260I5XG1-ELW does one thing exceptionally well: it delivers optically zoomed, laser-illuminated imagery at distances that no standard PTZ or fixed camera can approach. The 60× optical zoom and 500m laser combination is a genuine specification achievement, and the IK10/IP67 ratings mean it can be mounted in genuinely harsh outdoor conditions without compromise. For large-site security where identification at range matters, this is a technically capable, purpose-built tool available through Security Australia. Where it will not serve you well: it is not a wide-area overview camera. At any given moment it covers only what it is pointed at, so it should always be paired with fixed cameras or a wider-angle PTZ providing constant overview coverage. It is also a high-draw PoE device - standard PoE switches will not power it, and that must be confirmed in the infrastructure design before purchase.
Before You Buy
Power Budget: This speed dome requires PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) or a higher-rated power supply - it will not operate correctly on a standard PoE (802.3af) port. Confirm your switch or midspan injector supports the correct wattage before running cable. For pole-mounted installations at distance, also factor cable run length into voltage drop calculations to ensure the camera receives adequate power at the far end.
Laser Safety: The 500m laser illuminator is a Class 1M laser device. During installation and commissioning, do not look directly into the laser beam - particularly at low zoom settings where the beam is at its widest and most concentrated. Follow all laser safety procedures during setup and ensure the camera's final aim point does not direct the beam at eye level along a public thoroughfare.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need to identify people or vehicles at distances exceeding 100m in low light - the 60× optical zoom and 500m laser illumination are the right combination for that specific requirement.
- Good match if: Your site requires a physically robust, pole-mounted outdoor PTZ that can survive industrial environments - IK10 impact resistance and IP67 sealing confirm this camera is rated for exactly those conditions.
- You may need a different model if: Your priority is constant wide-area overview rather than targeted long-range identification - a multi-sensor panoramic or fixed wide-angle camera will provide continuous full-scene coverage that a PTZ inherently cannot.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need optical zoom beyond 30× and laser illumination past 200m - this camera's 60× zoom and 500m laser reach are in a different performance category from standard PTZ cameras and that difference is real and measurable at distance.
- You may need a different model if: Your site needs continuous full-scene overview rather than operator-directed zoom coverage - a multi-sensor panoramic camera provides constant 180° or 360° recording that a PTZ cannot replicate when pointed elsewhere.
- Pairs well with: Wide-angle fixed or multi-sensor cameras providing constant overview coverage, with this PTZ used as the operator-controlled zoom and identification tool triggered by motion events on the overview layer.
Common Questions
-
Will this camera actually produce usable footage at 500m in the dark?
Yes, within the conditions the laser illuminator is rated for. The 500m laser range is an engineering specification for the illuminator distance, not a marketing estimate. At maximum zoom and maximum laser range, you are relying on the DarkFighter sensor to extract detail from laser-reflected light at extreme distance. Results will vary with atmospheric conditions - clear, dry nights will deliver the rated performance; heavy rain, fog, or smoke will reduce effective range. The laser automatically adjusts its beam angle to track the zoom position, so the illuminated area stays aligned with what the lens is capturing at any focal length. -
What is the pan and tilt range on this speed dome?
This is a full 360° continuous pan speed dome. Tilt range is 0° to -90° (straight horizontal to straight down), which is standard for this PTZ housing type. Pan speed on speed domes of this class is typically up to 400°/second for rapid scene changes, with precision slow-speed manual control available for fine tracking. Preset positions can be programmed for instant return to defined monitoring zones, and guard tour / patrol tour functions automate cyclic coverage without operator input. -
Does this camera work with standard PoE switches?
No. This camera requires PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) as a minimum, and some installations may require HiPoE or 24V AC power depending on cable run length and local power budget. Standard PoE (IEEE 802.3af) at 15.4W will not supply enough power to operate this camera. Confirm your switch, injector, or NVR PoE port is rated to IEEE 802.3at (30W per port) before finalising your infrastructure design. For long cable runs, factor in voltage drop across the cable to confirm adequate power delivery at the camera end. -
Can this PTZ camera perform auto-tracking of moving subjects?
Yes, this speed dome supports auto-tracking functionality. When a moving subject enters the frame, the camera can lock on and follow the target automatically while maintaining zoom. Auto-tracking on a 60× PTZ is particularly useful for large-site perimeter monitoring where an operator cannot continuously watch every zone - the camera can pursue an intruder automatically and alert the operator while keeping the subject in frame. Auto-tracking behaviour and sensitivity thresholds are configured through the camera's web interface or VMS platform. -
Is the IK10 rating meaningful for pole-mounted outdoor installations?
Yes, and it is one of the genuinely important specifications for this camera type. IK10 is the highest impact resistance classification in the IEC 62262 standard, meaning the dome housing withstands a 20-joule impact - equivalent to a 5kg weight dropped from 400mm. For cameras mounted at accessible heights on perimeter poles at industrial sites, or in locations where deliberate tampering or accidental equipment impact is a realistic risk, IK10 housing provides meaningful physical protection that lower-rated PTZ domes do not. -
How many preset positions can this speed dome store?
Hikvision speed domes of this class support 300 preset positions as standard. This allows installers to define specific monitoring points across a large site - individual gate positions, fence corners, entry points, and high-risk zones - each recalled instantly by number. Patrol tours can chain multiple presets into automated sweep sequences with configurable dwell time at each position, allowing unattended overnight patrols across the full site perimeter. Confirm the exact preset count in the camera's specifications sheet, available through Security Australia. -
Will this camera work with non-Hikvision NVRs and VMS platforms?
Yes, with ONVIF-compatible platforms. This camera supports ONVIF profile S, which provides interoperability with third-party NVRs and video management software that support the ONVIF standard. Basic functions including live view, recording, and PTZ control will work via ONVIF. Advanced functions such as auto-tracking configuration, DarkFighter parameter tuning, and preset programming are typically only accessible through Hikvision's own iVMS-4200 software or compatible Hikvision NVRs. If full feature access matters for your system design, a Hikvision NVR is the recommended pairing.
