Product Overview
Model: DS-2CD6365G1-IVS
Who This Is For
When single-point, full-room coverage is the priority, the Hikvision DS-2CD6365G1-IVS delivers a 360-degree panoramic view from one ceiling-mount position - eliminating the multi-camera layouts traditionally required to cover open floor areas without blind spots. This is the camera specifiers reach for when covering large open indoor spaces: retail floors, hotel lobbies, casino gaming areas, open-plan offices, and transport waiting areas where corner-to-corner visibility matters. The 6MP sensor resolves 2560 x 2560 pixels across the full hemisphere, and on-board deep learning analytics add heatmap and people-counting capability directly at the camera - no separate analytics server required. IP66 weatherproofing and IK10 vandal resistance extend its application to covered outdoor spaces, entry canopies, and car park stairwells. Installers who need genuine 360-degree situational awareness from a single cable drop will find this model purpose-built for that brief.
What This Camera Actually Does
360-Degree Panoramic Coverage
A 1.16mm fixed lens captures a full 180-degree horizontal and 180-degree vertical field of view simultaneously. One camera positioned at ceiling centre replaces 3 or 4 conventional cameras to cover the same floor area, reducing cabling cost and NVR channel count.
Multi-Mode Dewarping
Raw fisheye images are automatically corrected into up to 20 live view display modes - panoramic strips, quad splits, PTZ virtual views, and single-region views. Operators work with conventional-looking footage rather than distorted circular images, without needing external dewarping software.
Heatmap and People Counting Analytics
Deep learning algorithms running on the camera's processor generate heatmap overlays showing where people congregate most within the frame, and track foot traffic counts over time. This data feeds retail dwell-time analysis, queue management, and zone utilisation reporting without additional software licences.
6MP Sensor with 120dB WDR
The 1/1.8-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor captures 2560 x 2560 resolution, spreading detail across the full hemisphere. The 120dB wide dynamic range handles simultaneous bright windows and shaded floor areas in the same scene - a common challenge in lobby and retail installations.
IR Night Vision to 15m
850nm IR illuminators provide usable monochrome imaging down to 0 lux across the full fisheye field of view, with a practical range of 15 metres. For overnight coverage of areas where ambient lighting is switched off, this removes the need for supplementary lighting.
H.265+ Compression with Edge Storage
H.265+ encoding reduces the bandwidth and storage load that a 6MP stream would otherwise demand. A microSD/SDXC card slot (up to 256GB) supports local edge recording, providing a continuous backup stream if the network connection to the NVR is interrupted.
Who Buys This Model
- Retail Loss Prevention Managers: Ceiling-centre placement over shop floors gives a single unobstructed view of the full sales area, with heatmap analytics providing foot traffic data that doubles as operational insight alongside the security function.
- Hotel and Hospitality Installers: Lobby areas with high ceilings and wide open floor plans are covered without multiple camera positions; the 20 dewarped display modes allow reception staff to monitor entrances, lifts, and seating areas from one feed.
- Transport and Venue Security Integrators: Waiting areas, concourses, and ticketing halls where a 360-degree view of crowd movement and density is required for incident response and post-event review.
- Body Corporate and Facilities Managers: Covered car park stairwells, basement entry points, and lift lobbies where the IK10 vandal-resistance rating and IP66 weatherproofing make the camera suitable for semi-exposed positions.
- System Designers Reducing Channel Count: Projects where NVR channel licences or cabling runs are constrained - replacing 3 to 4 conventional cameras with a single fisheye position at ceiling centre directly reduces both cost and infrastructure.
Honest Assessment
The DS-2CD6365G1-IVS does a specific job well: 360-degree coverage from a single ceiling position at 6MP resolution, with built-in analytics that most cameras in this class require a separate server to deliver. The 120dB WDR handles difficult mixed-lighting scenes, and the IP66 and IK10 ratings make it a genuine dual-purpose indoor-outdoor option. H.265+ keeps the 6MP stream manageable, and the 256GB edge storage slot adds a sensible failover layer. Where this camera has clear limits: the IR range of 15 metres is short relative to the full hemisphere it covers - outdoor perimeter detection beyond that distance is not the right application. DORI recognition distance is confirmed at 4.6 metres and identification at 2.3 metres, so this is a wide-area awareness tool, not a licence plate or face identification camera. For long-range or targeted identification tasks, a different product type from the Security Australia range would be more suitable.
Before You Buy
Mounting Height: Fisheye cameras are most effective when mounted at ceiling centre over the area to be covered. The DORI recognition distance of 4.6 metres and identification distance of 2.3 metres reflect the angular distortion inherent to a 1.16mm ultra-wide lens - mounting height directly affects how much of the frame falls within usable identification range. Optimal ceiling height for this model is generally 3 to 5 metres; significantly higher mounting reduces effective detail in the lower portion of the dewarped image. Confirm ceiling height and floor area dimensions before specifying this as a sole camera for a position where identification is required.
PoE Power Budget: This camera operates on IEEE 802.3af standard PoE (12V DC is also supported). Confirm your switch or NVR's per-port power budget before deployment - 802.3af supplies up to 15.4W per port, which is sufficient for this model but leaves no headroom for higher-draw accessories. If you are powering through a PoE NVR, check the total system power budget across all connected ports.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need to cover a large open floor area - retail floor, lobby, or waiting room - from a single ceiling-centre position, and want heatmap or people-counting analytics without a separate analytics licence.
- Good match if: Your installation has a tight NVR channel budget or limited cabling runs, and the 360-degree field of view lets one camera position replace 3 or 4 conventional cameras in the same space.
- You may need a different model if: Your primary requirement is long-range outdoor perimeter detection, licence plate capture, or face identification at distance - a bullet or ANPR-specific camera type from the range will serve those use cases more effectively than a 1.16mm fisheye lens.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need genuine 360-degree panoramic coverage from a single ceiling-mount position, with on-board heatmap and people-counting analytics included - particularly where reducing NVR channel count or cabling infrastructure is a project constraint.
- You may need a different model if: Your requirement is long-range outdoor detection beyond 15 metres, or you need reliable identification of individuals or licence plates at distance - a fixed bullet or varifocal turret camera type is more appropriate for those tasks.
- Pairs well with: A Hikvision NVR with sufficient channel and bandwidth capacity to handle a 6MP fisheye stream, and a PoE switch or NVR with 802.3af per-port output confirmed for the cable run length involved.
Common Questions
-
Does this camera support two-way audio?
No. The DS-2CD6365G1-IVS includes a built-in microphone only - there is no built-in speaker confirmed for this model. Audio is received at the camera but outbound audio to the camera's location is not supported via the camera itself. If two-way communication at the camera position is required, a separate audio output device or a different camera model with a confirmed built-in speaker would be needed. -
What do the DORI distances mean for this fisheye camera in practice?
They define how far from the camera lens a person can be detected, observed, recognised, or identified within the dewarped image. For the DS-2CD6365G1-IVS, detection is confirmed at 23.2m, observation at 9.2m, recognition at 4.6m, and identification at 2.3m. Because the 1.16mm lens spreads resolution across a full 360-degree hemisphere, pixel density per subject is significantly lower than a conventional narrower-angle camera at the same resolution. This means reliable face identification is limited to subjects within approximately 2.3 metres of the camera - making this camera well suited to wide-area awareness and analytics, but not to identification of individuals at distance. -
How does the dewarping work and do I need special software?
No separate software is required for basic dewarping. The camera processes fisheye correction on-board and delivers up to 20 live view display modes - including panoramic strip, quad-split, and virtual PTZ views - directly to compatible Hikvision NVRs and the iVMS-4200 client. Hardware dewarping is also available within supported Hikvision NVR platforms. Third-party VMS compatibility with dewarping functionality varies and should be confirmed with your integrator before specifying this camera into a non-Hikvision system. -
Will this camera work outdoors?
Yes, within limits. The IP66 weatherproof rating protects against rain and dust ingress, and the IK10 vandal resistance handles impact exposure. It is suitable for covered outdoor positions - entry canopies, car park stairwells, and sheltered eave installations. It is not designed for fully exposed outdoor positions with direct sun exposure or environments subject to extreme temperature cycling beyond its rated operating range. The 15m IR range also limits its effectiveness as a long-range outdoor detection camera. -
Does the heatmap and people-counting run on the camera itself or does it need a server?
It runs on the camera itself. The deep learning processor built into the DS-2CD6365G1-IVS generates heatmap overlays and people-counting data at the edge - no separate analytics server or software licence is required to activate these functions. Data can be accessed through a compatible Hikvision NVR or the iVMS-4200 management platform. This is confirmed as part of the Security Australia product listing for this model. -
What PoE standard does this camera require?
It requires standard IEEE 802.3af PoE. This supplies up to 15.4W per port, which is sufficient for this camera. PoE+ (802.3at) is not required but is compatible if that is what your switch provides. If powering via 12V DC instead, a regulated 12V supply sized for the camera's draw is needed. Confirm your switch or NVR's per-port power budget if you are powering multiple cameras from the same unit, as total system draw can exceed the switch's aggregate power capacity on fully loaded installations. -
Can the fisheye image be stitched into a flat panoramic view for widescreen display?
Yes. Among the supported display modes, a panoramic strip view dewarp is available, which remaps the circular fisheye image into a flat 180-degree horizontal panorama suitable for widescreen monitor display. This mode is useful for corridor and perimeter monitoring applications where a linear left-to-right field of view is easier to scan than a circular fisheye. The stitching is handled by the camera's on-board processor and the connected NVR client, without requiring external image-processing software.
