Hikvision DS-2CD2T66G2-4I Acusense 6MP EXIR Outdoor Bullet CCTV Camera Up to 80m IR
The DS-2CD2T66G2-4I delivers 6MP AcuSense Gen 2 surveillance for outdoor installations where accurate threat detection and long-range night vision are priorities. Deep learning algorithms distinguish between people and vehicles to cut false alarms, while DarkFighter technology and 80m EXIR illumination keep coverage reliable after dark. Supports PoE or 12V DC power.
Why This Model
- AcuSense Gen 2 object classification: Deep learning filters out animals, weather, and foliage movement so alerts are triggered by people and vehicles only - reducing alarm fatigue for whoever monitors the system.
- 80m EXIR range with DarkFighter: The combination of long-throw infrared and a 0.002 Lux minimum illumination threshold means usable footage at distances where most 6MP bullets fall short in the dark.
- 120dB true WDR: Handles high-contrast scenes like sun-lit driveways or entry points with bright artificial lighting, preserving detail in both the brightest and darkest parts of the frame simultaneously.

Product Overview
Model: DS-2CD2T66G2-2I-1
Who This Is For
Property managers specifying outdoor cameras for long approaches, perimeter fencing, or car parks will find the Hikvision DS-2CD2T66G2-4I a well-matched option. This is an 80m IR bullet camera built around AcuSense Gen 2 deep learning, which means it classifies detected movement as either a person or a vehicle before triggering an alert - rather than flagging every tree branch or passing animal. That distinction matters in outdoor environments where standard motion detection generates constant noise. The 6MP sensor resolves fine detail across wide open areas, and the 2.8mm fixed lens delivers a 99-degree horizontal field of view suitable for broad scene capture at moderate distances. The IP67 rating and -40°C to +60°C operating range make it viable across Australian conditions from tropical coastal installs to cold inland sites. This is a practical choice for anyone who needs reliable human and vehicle detection at range without managing a PTZ or wide-angle panoramic system.
What This Camera Actually Does
AcuSense Gen 2 Target Classification
Deep learning runs on-camera to separate human and vehicle detections from background movement. Alerts are only generated when the camera confirms one of those target types, which substantially reduces nuisance notifications in outdoor environments with wind, foliage, and animals.
80m EXIR Night Vision
The EXIR illuminator projects infrared light evenly across the frame out to 80 metres, avoiding the bright centre hotspot common on older IR designs. Combined with a minimum illumination of 0.002 Lux in B/W mode, the camera maintains usable detail well into dark outdoor conditions.
6MP Resolution at 20fps
At 3072 x 2048, this camera captures enough detail to identify faces or read number plates at closer ranges within the wide 99-degree horizontal field of view. The 20fps output keeps footage smooth enough for reviewing walking-speed movement without the storage overhead of 25fps or 30fps streams.
120dB True Wide Dynamic Range
Where a scene contains both bright sunlight and deep shadow - such as a building entrance facing the sun or a gate at dusk - 120dB WDR processes both zones simultaneously. Detail is preserved in shadows without the bright areas washing out, which is particularly useful for sites with significant lighting variation through the day.
H.265+ Compression
H.265+ encoding reduces bitrate compared to standard H.265 by suppressing redundant data in static scene areas. For a 6MP camera running continuously, this directly reduces NVR storage consumption and network bandwidth requirements, extending how far back your footage archive reaches without adding hard drives.
Dual Power Input and Local Storage
IEEE 802.3af PoE lets a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable carry both power and video, simplifying cable runs. Where a PoE switch is not available, 12V DC input provides an alternative. A microSD slot supports up to 128GB for local edge recording as a fallback if network connectivity is interrupted.
Who Buys This Model
- Commercial Property Managers: Car parks, rear laneways, and loading areas where 80m IR range and AcuSense vehicle detection reduce after-hours false alarm callouts.
- Industrial Site Operators: Perimeter fencing, yard entries, and long driveways where a visible bullet form factor serves as a deterrent and the IP67 rating handles dust, rain, and temperature swings.
- Security Integrators on Hikvision NVR Installs: Sites already running Hikvision NVRs where AcuSense smart event filtering can be activated directly through the existing recorder without adding third-party analytics software.
- Rural and Regional Property Owners: The -40°C to +60°C operating range and IP67 housing suit remote Australian installs where weather exposure is extreme and on-site technician visits are infrequent. The 128GB microSD edge storage adds local redundancy where network uptime cannot be guaranteed.
Honest Assessment
The DS-2CD2T66G2-4I delivers on its two core promises: genuine AcuSense Gen 2 classification that meaningfully cuts false alert rates, and an 80m IR range that keeps approaching subjects identifiable well before they reach a structure. The 6MP resolution adds useful detail across the 99-degree horizontal field without requiring a separate wide-angle camera. H.265+ compression helps manage storage, and the IP67 plus temperature range figures are appropriate for permanent Australian outdoor use. Where this camera does not serve as well: the 2.8mm fixed lens gives a wide field of view but limits identification detail at the outer edge of the IR range. For sites needing zoomed coverage of a specific narrow corridor or vehicle approach lane at long distance, a varifocal or motorised zoom bullet in a longer focal length would be more suitable. Similarly, if active deterrence with a strobe and speaker is the priority, a TiOC-equipped model handles that natively. Available through Security Australia, this model is best positioned as a perimeter and open-area detection camera rather than a dedicated identification or deterrence unit.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: This camera draws power via IEEE 802.3af PoE. Confirm your PoE switch or NVR PoE port outputs to the 802.3af standard - not all budget switches deliver full 802.3af budget per port under load. At 1.5kg body weight, the mounting surface and bracket must be rated for that mass, particularly on eave or fascia installs subject to vibration or wind. Point the bullet housing slightly downward (not horizontal) to keep IR illumination aligned with the ground plane rather than projecting above the subject area.
AcuSense Setup Note: AcuSense Gen 2 classification works at its best when the camera is positioned so that detected subjects occupy a reasonable portion of the frame. At the maximum 80m IR range with the 2.8mm lens, a person will appear small against the scene - accurate classification is more consistent at 20m to 50m. Set detection zones in the camera or NVR interface to focus AI processing on the areas where you most need reliable person/vehicle alerts.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need a perimeter or car park camera with reliable human and vehicle detection out to 80m and want AcuSense to suppress false alerts on a Hikvision NVR system.
- Good match if: The install site experiences extreme temperatures or weather exposure - the -40°C to +60°C operating range and IP67 rating handle harsh Australian outdoor conditions without needing additional housing.
- You may need a different model if: Your priority is tracking subjects across a wide area with automated camera movement - a PTZ camera with auto-tracking will serve that use case better than a fixed bullet.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need AcuSense Gen 2 person and vehicle classification on an 80m IR outdoor camera at a fixed focal length, paired with a Hikvision NVR that can process smart events natively.
- You may need a different model if: Your site requires a narrower field of view to reach subjects at long distance with identification-level detail - a varifocal or motorised zoom bullet in a longer focal length will serve that scenario better.
- Pairs well with: A Hikvision AcuSense-compatible NVR with sufficient PoE ports to realise smart event filtering and reduce the need for manual footage review across multiple camera channels.
Common Questions
-
Does this camera work with any NVR, or does it need a Hikvision system to use AcuSense?
AcuSense classification runs on the camera itself, but smart event filtering in the NVR interface requires a compatible Hikvision NVR. The camera will record and stream standard H.265 video to any ONVIF-compatible NVR, but the person/vehicle alert filtering and smart search functions are only accessible when the recorder supports AcuSense. If you are using a third-party NVR, the camera still records at full 6MP - you just lose the AI event management layer on the recorder side. -
Will this camera identify faces or read number plates at 80m?
No. At 80m with the 2.8mm lens, the image captures a broad scene but subjects appear small relative to frame height. The 80m IR range means subjects are visible and detectable at that distance, but for face recognition or number plate reading, subjects need to be considerably closer - typically within 10m to 20m depending on vehicle speed and approach angle. For dedicated plate capture, an ANPR-specific camera with a longer focal length is the appropriate tool. -
Does this camera have two-way audio?
No, not natively. The DS-2CD2T66G2-4I supports audio I/O connections, meaning you can wire an external microphone and an external speaker to the camera's audio terminals. The camera does not have a built-in speaker or built-in microphone. If two-way audio without external accessories is a requirement, a camera with both components integrated is a better fit. -
What PoE standard does this camera require, and does it work with a standard PoE switch?
Yes, it runs on IEEE 802.3af PoE, which is the standard type available on most PoE switches and Hikvision PoE NVRs. It does not require PoE+ (802.3at). A single Cat5e or Cat6 cable up to 100m carries both power and video data. Confirm your switch or NVR PoE budget per port is sufficient, particularly if the switch is running multiple cameras simultaneously on a shared power budget. -
How does AcuSense Gen 2 differ from standard motion detection for outdoor use?
Standard motion detection triggers on any pixel change - wind in trees, rain, a passing animal, or a change in lighting all generate alerts. AcuSense Gen 2 uses an on-camera deep learning model to classify detected motion as a person or a vehicle before an alert is sent. Objects that do not match either class are ignored. In practice, this means an outdoor bullet camera covering a yard with moving vegetation generates far fewer overnight notifications while still alerting on every genuine human or vehicle intrusion. The classification runs locally on the camera hardware without requiring cloud processing. The DS-2CD2T66G2-4I is part of the Security Australia range and is supported by local stock and technical resources. -
Does the 128GB microSD storage replace an NVR, or does it work alongside one?
It works alongside an NVR rather than replacing one. The microSD card acts as local edge storage - useful as a fallback if the network connection between the camera and NVR is interrupted, or for single-camera installs in remote locations. For a multi-camera setup with centralised management, reviewed footage, and motion search, an NVR remains the primary storage and management device. The microSD slot adds resilience, not a full recording system.
