Quick Buying Summary

The Dahua TIOC 2.0 IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV delivers 8MP full-colour active deterrence for residential and commercial perimeter security applications. When movement is detected, the camera automatically activates a siren and red-blue strobe lights to warn intruders before an incident escalates, while smart dual illuminators switch from IR to warm white light to capture full-colour footage of the event. Requires PoE switch or 12V DC power supply; no local storage included (supports up to 256GB microSD).

Why This Model

  • Active deterrence that acts before you do: The built-in siren and red-blue strobe trigger automatically on intrusion or tripwire events, giving potential intruders a visible and audible warning without any manual intervention.
  • Full-colour night vision on demand: Smart dual illuminators keep IR active for low-impact night monitoring, then switch to warm white light the moment a person or vehicle is detected - so critical events are captured in colour, not greyscale.
  • Two-way audio with dual mics: Built-in dual microphones and a speaker let installers enable live voice challenges through the app, useful for entry points, driveways, and after-hours commercial access areas.

Product Overview

Model: DH-IPC-HDW3849HP-AS-PV-0280B-S3-BLK

Who This Is For

When active deterrence - not just recording - is the priority, the Dahua TiOC Advanced 2.0 DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-S3 in black is the camera installers reach for on residential perimeters, small commercial properties, and childcare facility exteriors where a visible response to intrusion is required. This is not a passive recorder. When the onboard AI detects a human or vehicle crossing a defined tripwire or entering a virtual zone, the camera triggers a built-in siren and red-and-blue strobe lights immediately - before an operator needs to intervene. The 8MP 4K sensor delivers enough resolution to capture usable detail at entry points and driveways, while the smart dual illuminator system switches from IR-only mode to full-colour warm light the moment a target is confirmed, producing colour footage precisely when it matters. The black housing suits installations where a discreet profile against dark eaves, soffits, or rendered walls is preferred over a standard white finish.

What This Camera Actually Does

AI-Triggered Siren and Strobe

When the camera's AI classifies a confirmed human or vehicle breaching a virtual tripwire or intrusion zone, it immediately activates the onboard siren and red-and-blue flashing lights. The response happens at the camera level - no NVR action or operator input required to trigger the alarm.

Smart Dual Illuminators

The camera runs on IR-only at night to minimise light pollution. The moment a target is detected within the monitored zone, the warm white LED activates to capture full-colour footage of the event. When the target leaves, the warm light extinguishes and IR resumes - keeping light pollution low outside event periods.

8MP 4K Resolution

The 1/2.8" CMOS sensor outputs up to 3840 x 2160 at 25/30fps. At a 2.8mm focal length, the horizontal field of view is 106 degrees, covering wide driveway or yard entries. The 3.6mm option narrows to 85 degrees for more focused approaches. H.265+ compression manages storage without sacrificing detail.

SMD 3.0 Human and Vehicle Classification

Smart Motion Detection 3.0 filters motion events by classifying targets as human or vehicle before raising an alarm. Leaves blowing, animals, and lighting changes are screened out at the camera. This reduces the volume of false alerts reaching your NVR or monitoring app significantly compared to standard pixel-based motion detection.

Two-Way Audio

The camera includes dual built-in microphones and a built-in speaker, enabling full two-way voice communication. Operators can speak directly through the camera from a mobile app or VMS. This supports live verbal challenges to persons on site without requiring a separate intercom or audio device at the install location.

One-Tap Arming and Disarming

Event linkages including the siren and strobe response can be enabled or disabled instantly via the mobile app or through the physical alarm input using a one-press arming and disarming function. This is practical for sites with regular authorised after-hours access, allowing deterrence mode to be toggled without logging into a full VMS interface.

Who Buys This Model

  • Residential installers specifying perimeter protection: Homeowners with driveways, side gates, or rear yard access points who want an automatic deterrence response when a person or vehicle is detected at night, not just a recording after the fact.
  • Small commercial and retail operators: Shopfronts, warehouses, and small industrial sites where after-hours intrusion is a known risk and a visible and audible alarm at the camera itself adds a layer of on-site response before security staff or police arrive.
  • Childcare and education facility managers: Sites requiring deterrence coverage of external perimeters, car parks, and play area boundaries during out-of-hours periods, with full-colour event footage available for incident review.
  • Installers specifying black-finish cameras: Projects where standard white turret housings contrast poorly against dark soffits, charcoal rendered walls, or timber-clad eaves, and a black camera profile is specified for aesthetic integration.
  • Property managers upgrading from standard motion detection: Sites with a history of nuisance alerts from wind, animals, or lighting changes who need AI-based human and vehicle classification to reduce false alarm fatigue in a monitoring app or NVR.

Honest Assessment

The DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-S3 does active deterrence well within a compact turret form factor. The combination of AI-triggered siren, red-and-blue strobe, full-colour event capture, and two-way audio in a single PoE device is genuinely useful for residential and small commercial perimeter work - it removes the need for a separate alarm output device at each camera position. The SMD 3.0 classification is a meaningful improvement over older motion-based alert systems in terms of alert accuracy. IP67 weather resistance and a wide voltage tolerance make it suitable for external Australian conditions. Where this camera will not serve well: the 30m illumination range and fixed focal lens mean it is not suited to long outdoor approaches, loading dock corridors, or wide-area open sites where a bullet camera with extended IR or a varifocal lens would cover the geometry more effectively. For large-scale deterrence deployments across multiple zones, consult the range available through Security Australia to assess whether a managed alarm output solution better fits the project scope.

Before You Buy

Installer Note: The SKU DH-IPC-HDW3849HP-AS-PV-0280B-S3-BLK is the 2.8mm fixed-focal variant. Confirm the lens choice before ordering - a 3.6mm version is available if a narrower 85-degree horizontal field of view better suits the target area. The 2.8mm gives a 106-degree horizontal view suited to wide entries and corners, but will not concentrate detail across longer approaches the way the 3.6mm will. Both lens options share the same IR and warm light range of 30m. This camera requires standard IEEE 802.3af PoE - a PoE+ switch is not required. The alarm input also supports one-press physical arming and disarming, so plan cable routing to accommodate a momentary push button at the install location if that function is needed on site.

TiOC Setup Note: The siren and strobe deterrence function is linked to AI detection rules - tripwire and intrusion zone - not to standard motion detection. These rules must be configured in the camera's web interface or through a compatible Dahua VMS or NVR after installation. Out of the box, the deterrence response is not active until detection rules are drawn and linked to the alarm output. Budget time in commissioning for zone configuration, sensitivity adjustment, and testing of the strobe trigger threshold to avoid nuisance activations at the install site.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You are covering a residential driveway, rear gate, or shopfront entry where an AI-triggered siren and strobe response to confirmed human or vehicle detection is required at the camera itself, without routing to a separate alarm panel.
  • Good match if: The installation surface is dark-coloured - charcoal, black, or timber - and a black camera housing is needed to avoid a visually prominent white camera profile against the fascia or soffit.
  • You may need a different model if: The target area extends beyond 30m, requires optical zoom to capture usable facial or plate detail at distance, or the site geometry calls for a varifocal or motorised zoom lens - in which case a bullet or varifocal turret camera type would be more appropriate for your application.

Real-World Scenarios

Residential Driveway Entry

Mounted on a dark eave above the driveway gate, the black housing blends against the fascia. After hours, any person or vehicle crossing the tripwire zone triggers the siren and strobe immediately, producing a full-colour event clip for the homeowner's app notification.

Retail Shopfront After Hours

Installed above the shopfront door on a dark rendered wall. The AI intrusion zone covers the entry alcove. A person approaching after closing triggers the strobe and siren at camera level without requiring a monitoring centre response, acting as a first-line deterrent before the alarm panel escalates.

Childcare External Perimeter

Covering a side gate and play area boundary at a childcare facility, the camera runs IR-only during operating hours. After closing, the TiOC deterrence rules are armed via the app. Any confirmed human detection activates the siren and warm light, generating colour footage and an instant push notification to the facility manager.

Two-Way Verbal Challenge

A property manager reviewing a live alert on the DMSS app uses the two-way audio function to speak directly through the camera to a person loitering near a rear access point. The built-in speaker and dual microphones enable a clear vocal exchange without requiring a separate intercom device at the camera location.

Scheduled Arming for Staff Access

A small warehouse uses the one-tap disarming function so early-morning delivery staff can temporarily disable the deterrence response via the app before entering. The system re-arms automatically after the access window, maintaining active deterrence coverage for the rest of the out-of-hours period.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need AI-classified active deterrence - siren, strobe, and full-colour event footage - triggered at the camera level, in a compact turret form factor that suits eave and soffit mounting with a black finish.
  • You may need a different model if: The installation requires coverage beyond 30m, a varifocal or motorised zoom lens to concentrate detail across a longer approach, or a bullet-style housing better suited to wall-bracket mounting on industrial or exposed outdoor structures.
  • Pairs well with: A Dahua-compatible NVR with SMD filtering enabled, which passes only human and vehicle-classified events from this camera to reduce storage use and alert volume across a multi-camera system.

Common Questions

  1. Does the siren and strobe activate automatically, or does someone need to trigger it manually?

Automatically - no manual trigger is required. When a confirmed human or vehicle crosses a configured tripwire or enters a defined intrusion zone, the onboard AI raises the siren and activates the red-and-blue strobe lights immediately at the camera. The response occurs at device level without relying on NVR action, cloud processing, or operator input. Detection rules must be configured after installation for the function to be active.
  2. What exactly triggers the warm light to switch on - is it any movement, or only when a person or vehicle is confirmed?

Only a confirmed human or vehicle target triggers the warm light. The Smart Dual Illuminator logic uses the AI classification layer, not standard pixel-based motion detection. The camera runs on IR-only at night by default. When the AI classifies a moving object as a human or vehicle within the monitored zone, the warm white LED activates and full-colour footage is captured for the duration of that event. When the target leaves the frame, the warm light extinguishes and IR resumes. Leaves, rain, small animals, and ambient light changes do not trigger the warm light switch.
  3. Will this camera work with a standard PoE switch, or does it need PoE+?

Standard PoE is sufficient. This camera supports IEEE 802.3af PoE, which is the standard 15.4W PoE specification delivered by most PoE switches and PoE NVRs. PoE+ (802.3at, 30W) is not required. A single Cat5e or Cat6 cable carries both power and data. The camera also accepts 12V DC as an alternative power input if required by the install layout.
  4. Does this camera support two-way audio, and what hardware does it have built in?

Yes, it supports full two-way audio. The camera has dual built-in microphones and a built-in speaker, with a 1-channel audio input and 1-channel audio output. Two-way talk is supported through the Dahua DMSS mobile app, compatible Dahua NVRs, and supported VMS platforms. No external microphone or speaker needs to be added to the install. This makes it usable for live verbal challenges to persons on site directly from a mobile device.
  5. What does the TiOC deterrence trigger behaviour look like - does every detection fire the strobe, and can the sensitivity be adjusted?

No - the strobe and siren are linked specifically to the AI-based tripwire and intrusion zone rules, not to all motion events. The camera must have detection zones drawn and the alarm linkage to the strobe and siren explicitly configured in the device interface or VMS. Once configured, the trigger fires only when the AI classifies a human or vehicle as breaching the defined zone boundary. Sensitivity and zone geometry are adjustable during configuration - the detection boundary, target size filter, and time schedule for when the deterrence response is active can all be set per zone. This means the deterrence can be limited to after-hours periods only, with the siren and strobe disabled during business hours while motion recording continues.
  6. What are the DORI distances for this camera, and what does that mean for identifying a face or reading a number plate?

At 2.8mm, the Detect distance is 91m and the Identify distance is 9.1m. DORI is a standardised measure of what detail level is achievable at a given distance with 8MP at the listed focal length. Detection at 91m means the camera can confirm a person or object is present. Identify at 9.1m means facial features or fine detail such as clothing markings are distinguishable at up to approximately 9 metres. For number plate reading, identification-level detail is required, so the camera needs to be positioned so that vehicles pass within roughly 9m of the lens for useful plate legibility. At 3.6mm the Identify distance extends to 10.8m due to the narrower field of view concentrating pixel density. This is a fixed-focal camera - it cannot zoom to extend these distances after installation. For applications where identification at longer ranges is required, a varifocal or motorised zoom camera type would be more appropriate.
  7. Can the arming schedule be managed remotely, and how does the one-tap disarming work in practice?

Yes. Through the Dahua DMSS mobile app, the event linkages - including the siren and strobe response - can be enabled or disabled remotely with a single tap. This is the one-tap arming and disarming function. The physical alarm input on the camera also supports a momentary button for on-site arming and disarming without needing app access. In practice this means a business owner can disarm the deterrence response before staff arrive in the morning and re-arm it after closing, either through the app or by pressing a button wired to the alarm input at the door. Time-scheduled arming through the camera configuration can also automate this without manual intervention. The function available through Security Australia's Dahua range is particularly useful for sites with irregular access patterns where a fixed schedule is not practical.
