Product Overview
Model: DH-HAC-HDBW2802R-Z-DP
Who This Is For
Property managers specifying upgrades to existing coaxial cable infrastructure will find the Dahua DH-HAC-HDBW2802R-Z-DP delivers genuine 4K resolution over the same RG59 runs already in the walls - no IP network reconfiguration required. This is an HDCVI dome camera built for sites where coaxial cable is already installed and a resolution step-up to 8MP is the goal, without the cost of full network camera infrastructure. The 3.7-11mm motorised lens means the field of view can be dialled in after mounting, which is practical in ceiling installations where physical repositioning is difficult. IP67 weatherproofing and an IK10 vandal resistance rating make it suited to both internal and sheltered external positions. Starlight low-light performance down to 0.005 lux means it keeps producing usable colour detail in poorly lit corridors, car parks, or stairwells where ambient lighting is inconsistent.
What This Camera Actually Does
4K HDCVI Over Existing Coax
Transmits 8MP (3840x2160) video over a single coaxial cable at distances up to 700 metres. Sites already cabled for analog cameras can step up to 4K resolution without pulling new cable or deploying network infrastructure. The DIP switch on the cable tail allows format switching between HDCVI, CVBS, AHD, and TVI.
Motorised Zoom - Aim After Install
The 3.7-11mm motorised lens adjusts zoom and focus electronically, covering a horizontal field of view from 112 degrees wide to 46 degrees tele. Once the camera is ceiling-mounted, the view can be framed precisely without a technician needing to physically reposition the dome head.
Starlight Low-Light Sensitivity
The 1/1.8" CMOS sensor with F1.5 maximum aperture achieves a minimum illumination of 0.005 lux in colour mode. In near-dark conditions it retains colour detail before switching to IR-assisted monochrome, which matters in locations where lighting is variable or switched off overnight.
120dB True WDR
120dB Wide Dynamic Range simultaneously exposes bright and dark zones in the same frame. Entry points with bright outdoor daylight behind a person and a shadowed interior - a common problem for entrance cameras - are handled without the subject appearing as a silhouette.
IK10 Vandal Resistance
The aluminium housing is IK10 rated, meaning it withstands an impact force equivalent to 5kg dropped from 40cm. Combined with the dome form factor, this is appropriate for public corridors, car park stairwells, and other locations where cameras are within reach and subject to deliberate interference.
Audio Input Over Coax
An onboard audio input interface allows an external microphone to be connected. Audio is then transmitted over the same coaxial cable as video, which avoids running a separate audio cable back to the recorder. This is useful for interview rooms, reception counters, or compliance recording scenarios.
Who Buys This Model
- Security integrators upgrading legacy coax sites: Replacing aging analog dome cameras on existing RG59 runs to deliver 4K resolution without any cabling changes, saving both labour and material costs on mid-size commercial retrofits.
- Strata and building managers: Specifying a vandal-resistant ceiling camera for internal common areas - car park stairwells, lift lobbies, laundry rooms - where the IK10 housing and IP67 rating handle humidity and the risk of interference.
- Retail loss prevention teams: Installing a high-resolution dome above checkouts or stock areas where the motorised zoom allows the field of view to be refined post-installation without disturbing ceiling tiles or re-opening conduit.
- Facilities operators with mixed lighting environments: Entrances, loading bay offices, or server rooms where the 120dB WDR and Starlight sensor are needed to maintain usable images across a wide range of ambient light levels throughout the day.
Honest Assessment
The DH-HAC-HDBW2802R-Z-DP is a strong option specifically for HDCVI coaxial-based systems where 4K resolution is required. The combination of a 1/1.8" sensor, F1.5 aperture, Starlight low-light capability, and 120dB WDR gives it real practical depth for challenging lighting conditions. The motorised 3.7-11mm lens removes the need to pre-plan the exact angle before installation, which reduces on-site adjustment time considerably. The IK10 aluminium housing is confirmed, and the 700-metre coax transmission distance gives genuine flexibility in larger buildings. What this camera will not do is operate on an IP network or PoE switch - it requires a compatible HDCVI XVR or DVR and a coaxial cable run. If the site has no existing coaxial infrastructure, or if remote access via standard IP networking is the priority, an IP dome from the network camera range available through Security Australia would be a more appropriate direction. The 30-metre IR range is also modest for large open spaces.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: This camera runs on AC 24V or DC 12V (both with 30% tolerance) - it does not support PoE. At 4K resolution the frame rate is 15fps, which drops from the 25/30fps available at 4MP mode. If smooth motion recording at full resolution is a priority for the application (e.g. fast-moving subjects), confirm whether 15fps is acceptable to the end client before specifying this model. The motorised lens requires either HDCVI OSD control via the coaxial data channel or a compatible XVR menu to adjust zoom and focus remotely.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: The site already has coaxial cable installed and the goal is upgrading to 4K resolution without network infrastructure - the HDCVI format transmits 8MP video up to 700 metres over existing RG59 runs.
- Good match if: The installation position is within reach of people and vandalism is a concern - the confirmed IK10 aluminium housing and dome profile handle physical impact and make dome removal difficult.
- You may need a different model if: The site has no coaxial cabling and will be built on a PoE switch network - an IP dome camera would integrate directly with NVR-based systems without requiring coax infrastructure or a separate HDCVI recorder.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: The site runs on coaxial cable and the goal is 4K resolution at up to 700 metres without building an IP network - the HDCVI format and multi-format DIP switch make it a practical retrofit choice for existing analog infrastructure.
- You may need a different model if: The system is being built on Cat5e/Cat6 cabling with PoE switches - an IP dome camera will integrate directly with NVR-based systems and support remote access, analytics, and management features that HDCVI does not offer.
- Pairs well with: A compatible Dahua HDCVI XVR with sufficient 4K-capable channels, a DC 12V power supply, and optionally a passive HDCVI balun for UTP runs up to 300 metres.
Common Questions
-
Will this camera work with my existing XVR or DVR?
Yes, provided the recorder supports HDCVI at 4K (8MP) resolution. The DH-HAC-HDBW2802R-Z-DP also supports CVBS, AHD, and TVI via a DIP switch on the cable tail, which means it is compatible with most common HD analog recorders at lower resolutions. To get the full 4K output at 15fps, the XVR must have 4K-capable channel inputs. Check your recorder's channel specification before assuming 4K recording is available. -
Does this camera support PoE?
No. The DH-HAC-HDBW2802R-Z-DP requires AC 24V or DC 12V power (both with 30% tolerance) supplied via a dedicated power cable. It is an HDCVI analog camera and does not support Power over Ethernet. A separate DC 12V power adapter or a centralised power distribution board is required at the installation point. -
How far can I run the coaxial cable before signal quality degrades?
Up to 700 metres over coaxial cable at 4K/4MP resolution, based on Dahua laboratory testing. If using UTP cable with a passive HDCVI balun, the maximum run is 300 metres. Signal quality over very long runs can also be affected by cable quality and connector condition, so using quality RG59 or RG6 with properly crimped BNC connectors is recommended for runs approaching the maximum distance. -
What is the frame rate at 4K resolution and does it matter?
At 4K (8MP) resolution, the frame rate is 15fps. This is half of the 30fps available at 4MP. For most fixed surveillance applications - monitoring a corridor, checkout, or entry point - 15fps is generally adequate to identify persons and movements. For scenarios where fast-moving subjects need to be tracked smoothly (e.g. a high-traffic entrance during peak hours), running the camera at 4MP and 25/30fps may produce more useful footage than 4K at 15fps. The choice depends on whether resolution or motion smoothness is the higher priority for the specific installation. -
How do I adjust the zoom and focus after the camera is mounted?
The motorised lens is controlled electronically, not manually. Zoom and focus adjustment is done through the OSD menu, which is accessed via the coaxial data channel using a compatible HDCVI XVR or a dedicated UTC (Up the Coax) controller. Once the camera is mounted, the installer adjusts the lens remotely from the recorder without needing a second person at the camera or any physical access to the dome head. -
Does this camera work outdoors?
Yes. The IP67 rating confirms full dust ingress protection and protection against sustained water jets from any direction, making it suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as eaves, overhangs, and covered car parks. The operating temperature range of -30°C to +60°C also covers Australian climate extremes. For fully exposed positions with no overhead shelter, consider whether direct rainfall on the dome bubble over extended periods is acceptable for the site, or specify an optional rain shade accessory. -
What are the DORI distances for this camera?
DORI distances are confirmed in the product specification data per EN 62676-4. At wide angle (3.7mm): Detect 83m, Observe 33m, Recognize 17m, Identify 8m. At tele (11mm): Detect 190m, Observe 76m, Recognize 38m, Identify 19m. For facial recognition-quality identification of a person in a corridor, the 11mm tele end provides up to 19 metres of workable identify distance. If you need further guidance on matching DORI distances to your site layout, the team at Security Australia can assist with camera placement planning.
