Product Overview
Model: DH-CS4010-8ET-110
Who This Is For
When simplifying the network infrastructure behind a small-to-medium IP camera deployment is the priority, the Dahua DH-CS4010-8ET-110 delivers a compact, cloud-managed 10-port PoE switch built specifically for surveillance environments. With 8 PoE ports capable of powering cameras, intercoms, and access control readers from a single cable run - and port 1 supporting up to 90W for high-draw devices - this switch suits security installers fitting out small commercial sites, retail stores, small offices, or residential builds with up to 8 PoE-powered devices. The long-distance PoE mode extends transmission to 250 metres for cameras mounted at gates, car parks, or outbuildings where standard 100-metre Ethernet limits fall short. Cloud management via the DoLynk Care app means the switch can be monitored and reconfigured remotely, reducing site revisit costs for installers managing multiple locations.
What This Switch Actually Does
Cloud Management via DoLynk Care
The switch connects to the DoLynk Care app, giving installers and network administrators real-time port status, alarm notifications for errors, and remote configuration access - without needing to be on site. Useful for managing switches across multiple customer locations from a single app interface.
Long-Distance PoE to 250 Metres
All 8 PoE ports support extended transmission mode up to 250 metres at 10 Mbps. This removes the standard 100-metre Ethernet constraint for cameras at gates, perimeter fences, or outbuildings without requiring additional switches or media converters in those runs.
90W BT Port for High-Power Devices
Port 1 supports IEEE 802.3bt and Hi-PoE with up to 90W output - enough for PTZ cameras, multi-sensor units, or outdoor access control panels with electric lock outputs. Ports 2-8 deliver up to 30W each, covering standard IP cameras and intercoms. Total PoE budget is 110W across all ports.
PoE Watchdog Auto-Recovery
The PoE Watchdog function monitors each port and automatically restarts a failed port if a connected camera stops responding. This reduces the need for manual resets or site visits when a camera locks up or drops off the network, which is a common support call in unmanaged switch deployments.
VLAN and Network Topology Visibility
Port-based VLAN support (up to 32 VLANs) allows camera traffic to be isolated from the customer's general business network. LLDP protocol generates a visual network topology map in the management interface, making it straightforward to identify which device is on which port during fault-finding.
Loop Protection and Surge Resilience
Built-in loop detection triggers an alarm and activates loop elimination automatically to prevent broadcast storms from taking down the network. The switch also includes static protection (8 kV air discharge, 6 kV contact) and lightning protection (4 kV common mode, 2 kV differential mode) on the PoE ports.
Who Buys This Model
- Security Installers: Fitting out small commercial sites with up to 8 IP cameras and needing a compact managed switch that supports remote monitoring via app rather than requiring on-site configuration visits.
- Small Business Owners: Self-managing a camera system who want cloud visibility over which cameras are online and the ability to reboot a stuck camera remotely without calling a technician.
- IT Managers at Small Sites: Requiring VLAN separation between the surveillance network and the corporate LAN, supported by port-based VLAN and up to 32 VLAN configurations from the web interface.
- Installers with Long Cable Runs: Deploying cameras at gates or outbuildings beyond 100 metres from the NVR location, using the 250-metre long-distance PoE mode to avoid additional network hardware mid-run.
- PTZ or Multi-Sensor System Builders: Needing a single high-power port (90W on port 1) for a PTZ or high-draw camera alongside standard 30W PoE for the remaining 7 camera positions.
Honest Assessment
The DH-CS4010-8ET-110 does a specific job well: it puts cloud-managed PoE switching into a small desktop form factor suited to surveillance installations. The PoE Watchdog auto-recovery, long-distance 250-metre mode, 90W BT port, and DoLynk Care app management are genuinely useful features for installers who want to reduce on-site call-backs. The fully-enclosed sheet metal casing handles the -10 to 55 degree Celsius operating range without issue in plant rooms or utility cupboards. Where this switch has limits: the total PoE budget is 110W across all 8 ports, so running 8 devices simultaneously at higher draw requires budget planning. The PoE ports run at 10/100 Mbps only - not Gigabit - which is adequate for most IP cameras but may become a constraint if high-bitrate 4K streams or NVR throughput demands grow. For deployments requiring more than 8 camera ports, a larger managed switch will be needed. This model is available through Security Australia.
Before You Buy
PoE Budget Planning: Total PoE output is capped at 110W across all 8 ports. Port 1 alone can consume up to 90W if a BT-class device is connected, leaving only 20W remaining across ports 2-8 in that scenario. Before connecting devices, add up the PoE draw of each planned device and confirm the combined total does not exceed 110W. Standard IP cameras typically draw 5-13W each, but PTZ cameras, intercoms with door release outputs, and access control readers can draw significantly more. Use the power consumption management feature in the web interface to set per-port power limits and avoid overload shutdowns.
Long-Distance Mode Limitation: When enabling the 250-metre long-distance PoE mode, bandwidth on that port drops to 10 Mbps. For most standard-definition and 1080p cameras this is sufficient, but high-bitrate 4K cameras or cameras with continuous recording at maximum quality settings may saturate a 10 Mbps link. Confirm the bitrate of the camera being connected before using extended mode on that port.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are deploying up to 8 IP cameras in a small commercial or residential site and want a compact managed switch with remote monitoring and auto-recovery via the DoLynk Care app - without the cost or complexity of a rack-mount managed switch.
- Good match if: One or more cameras are located beyond 100 metres from the switch and you want to avoid adding a second switch or media converter mid-run, using the built-in 250-metre long-distance PoE mode instead.
- You may need a different model if: Your deployment requires more than 8 PoE camera ports, Gigabit speed on all ports for high-bitrate 4K streams, or a higher total PoE budget beyond 110W - in which case a larger managed PoE switch from the Dahua business switch range would be more appropriate. Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need cloud-managed PoE switching for up to 8 cameras in a small site, want auto-recovery via PoE Watchdog, and need at least one port capable of 90W for a high-draw device - all in a compact desktop form factor.
- You may need a different model if: Your deployment involves more than 8 cameras, requires Gigabit speed on the PoE ports rather than 10/100 Mbps, or needs a total PoE budget beyond 110W - a larger managed PoE switch from the business switch range on securityaustralia.com.au would be better suited.
- Pairs well with: A Dahua NVR connected via one of the 2 Gigabit uplink ports, Dahua IP cameras on the PoE ports, and a Dahua PoE access control panel or video intercom on port 1 if a higher-wattage device is required.
Common Questions
-
Will this switch power a PTZ camera directly?
Yes, on port 1 only. Port 1 supports IEEE 802.3bt and Hi-PoE with a maximum output of 90W, which covers most PTZ cameras on the market. Ports 2-8 are limited to 30W each and support IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at only. If your PTZ draws more than 30W, connect it specifically to port 1 and confirm its actual wattage before finalising the installation. -
Does the long-distance PoE mode actually work at 250 metres?
Yes, up to 250 metres, but with a trade-off. When long-distance mode is active, the port speed drops to 10 Mbps. For standard IP cameras running at typical surveillance bitrates this is sufficient, but if you are running a high-bitrate 4K camera at maximum settings, verify its bitrate stays below the 10 Mbps link ceiling before relying on this mode. -
How does the DoLynk Care app manage this switch?
The app provides real-time monitoring of device and port status, sends alarm notifications when errors occur, and allows remote configuration changes without needing to access the web interface on-site. This is useful for installers managing multiple customer sites - status checks and basic changes can be done from a phone. The LLDP-based network topology view is also accessible through the management interface, showing which device is connected to each port. -
What happens if the total PoE draw exceeds 110W?
The switch enforces the 110W total PoE budget. If connected devices collectively demand more than 110W, lower-priority ports will have power restricted or cut. Using the PoE power consumption management feature in the web interface, you can set per-port power limits and assign port priorities to control which devices are shed first if the budget is exceeded. Plan your deployment by adding up the confirmed wattage of each connected device before installation. -
Will this switch isolate my camera network from my business network?
Yes. The DH-CS4010-8ET-110 supports port-based VLAN with up to 32 VLANs. You can assign camera ports to one VLAN and uplink port 9 or 10 to a separate VLAN or directly to an NVR, keeping surveillance traffic logically separated from a general office LAN. This is a common requirement for small business sites where cameras and POS or staff computers share the same building infrastructure. Stocked by Security Australia, this switch is set up and managed via the web interface or the DoLynk Care app. -
Does this switch work outdoors or in a hot plant room?
It is rated for indoor use with an operating temperature range of -10 to +55 degrees Celsius. The fully-enclosed dust-proof sheet metal casing handles plant rooms, utility cupboards, and lightly conditioned spaces without issue. It is not rated for direct outdoor exposure to rain or moisture and should be installed in a sheltered enclosure if used in a location with ambient temperatures above 55 degrees Celsius. -
What cable type is required for the PoE ports?
Cat5e or Cat6 unshielded twisted pair cable is standard for the PoE ports at normal distances up to 100 metres. For long-distance mode up to 250 metres, Cat5e or better is required. The switch is powered by an included external 54VDC, 2.22A power adapter - no separate PoE injector or UPS is included, so factor in a UPS if continuous uptime during power interruptions is required for your site.
