Axis P9117-PV 6MP Indoor Corner Surveillance Camera | 360° No-Blind-Spot Panoramic View
Built as a corner-mount panoramic camera for indoor surveillance, the Axis P9117-PV delivers a full 360-degree field of view with no blind spots, making it ideal for retail floors, corridors, and open-plan commercial spaces. The 6MP sensor provides enough resolution to capture usable detail across the entire panoramic image. No separate recorder is required for basic viewing, though integration with an NVR or VMS is recommended for continuous recording.
Why This Model
- Corner-mounted 360° coverage: Mounting in a room corner lets a single camera cover an entire space without the gaps or overlapping cameras that wall or ceiling mounts require.
- 6MP panoramic resolution: Higher pixel count across a wide-angle image means faces and details remain identifiable even at the edges of the frame - critical for retail loss prevention and access monitoring.
- Single-camera simplicity: Replacing multiple fixed cameras with one unit reduces cabling, licensing costs, and ongoing maintenance in smaller indoor environments.

Product Overview
Model: AXIS P9117-PV
Who This Is For
For facility managers and security integrators who need complete corner-to-corner situational awareness without running multiple cameras to a single junction point, the Axis P9117-PV is purpose-built for exactly that challenge. Designed to mount directly into a room corner, it delivers a 360-degree panoramic view from a single unit, eliminating the blind spots that haunt conventional single-lens cameras placed nearby. This makes it particularly well-suited to open-plan offices, retail floors, waiting rooms, school corridors, and aged care common areas where a central overhead mount is either impractical or aesthetically problematic. At 6MP, the P9117-PV captures enough resolution across its wide panoramic sweep to distinguish individuals and actions throughout the covered space, not just at close range. Installers fitting out spaces where minimising camera count matters - whether for budget, aesthetics, or ceiling-access limitations - will find this model worth a close look.
What This Camera Actually Does
360-Degree Corner Coverage
Rather than pointing a camera toward a corner, the P9117-PV mounts into the corner itself and looks outward across the entire room. Both walls and the full floor area are captured simultaneously, removing the coverage gaps that require two or three conventional cameras to address.
6MP Panoramic Resolution
With a 6-megapixel sensor spread across a wide panoramic field, the camera maintains usable detail across the full scene. This matters in practice when reviewing footage - people and incidents remain identifiable even toward the edges of the coverage zone rather than appearing as indistinct shapes.
Discreet Indoor Form Factor
The corner-mount housing integrates into the room architecture rather than protruding from ceilings or walls. This is a meaningful consideration in client-facing environments such as reception areas, retail boutiques, and healthcare facilities where visible surveillance hardware needs to stay unobtrusive.
Panoramic Dewarping
The wide-angle optical geometry that enables full-room coverage is corrected through dewarping, presenting operators and reviewers with a flattened, navigable view of the scene. This allows the footage to be used practically in both live monitoring and post-event review without requiring specialised viewing software training.
Axis ARTPEC Processing
Built on Axis's own image processing platform, the P9117-PV handles video compression and image optimisation on-chip. This supports efficient H.264 and H.265 encoding, keeping storage and bandwidth demands manageable even at 6MP across a continuously-active panoramic field.
Who Buys This Model
- Retail Fitout Installers: Fitting boutiques and showrooms where ceiling cable access is limited and a single corner unit covering the full sales floor replaces 2-3 ceiling-mount domes.
- Aged Care and Healthcare Facilities: Monitoring common rooms and corridors in environments where minimal visible hardware is preferred and complete spatial awareness is a duty-of-care requirement.
- Office and Corporate Fitout Teams: Specifying open-plan workspaces, meeting rooms, or reception areas where a low-profile corner installation suits the fit and finish requirements of the building.
- School and Childcare Facility Managers: Covering activity rooms and corridors completely from a single device, reducing per-space camera count while maintaining no-blind-spot coverage for duty-of-care compliance.
- Security Consultants Reducing Camera Count: Recommending this model where a client's brief requires full-room situational awareness but camera quantity or cabling runs need to be kept to a minimum.
Honest Assessment
The Axis P9117-PV does one thing that most cameras cannot: it covers an entire room from a single corner mount with no blind spots. At 6MP, the resolution is sufficient to maintain scene detail across the panoramic field, and the Axis engineering behind it means image processing and compression are handled competently. The corner-mount form factor is genuinely differentiated - there is no equivalent approach from a standard dome or turret camera placed in the same space. For indoor environments where complete coverage and discreet hardware matter equally, this camera is a considered choice available through Security Australia. That said, it is strictly an indoor product - there is no weather-resistant housing. It also will not deliver the close-range face-level identification distance that a dedicated high-resolution fixed camera achieves on a single target. If your priority is licence plate capture, facial recognition at a controlled entry, or perimeter coverage of an outdoor area, a different camera type will serve the brief better.
Before You Buy
Corner Geometry Note: The P9117-PV is designed for 90-degree wall corners at ceiling height. Rooms with non-standard corner angles, curved walls, or corner columns will affect the coverage geometry and may leave unintended gaps in the panoramic sweep. Confirm the installation corner is a standard right-angle junction before specifying this camera. Additionally, verify your NVR or VMS platform supports the panoramic dewarping mode - not all generic recorders handle the image geometry correctly without the appropriate decoding support.
Lighting Conditions: As an indoor-only panoramic camera, the P9117-PV relies entirely on the ambient lighting present in the space. It does not carry IR illuminators. In rooms that are dimmed, unlit after hours, or that experience variable lighting conditions (such as hospitality venues or event spaces), assess whether supplementary lighting will be required to maintain image quality during all operational periods.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need complete no-blind-spot coverage of an indoor room from a single device and the space has standard 90-degree wall corners at ceiling height.
- Good match if: Your installation requires minimal visible hardware impact - such as a client-facing reception, retail boutique, or healthcare common room - where a conventional dome or bullet camera is too visually prominent.
- You may need a different model if: Your application involves outdoor coverage, after-hours monitoring in unlit spaces, or targeted identification at a specific entry point - a weather-rated turret, bullet camera, or dedicated access-point camera will be a stronger fit for those scenarios.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need complete no-blind-spot indoor room coverage from a single device, and corner mounting is architecturally suitable - no other single-camera form factor achieves this coverage geometry.
- You may need a different model if: Your application requires outdoor installation, low-light or after-hours monitoring in unlit spaces, or targeted identification at a defined entry point - a weatherproof turret, bullet, or fixed focal-length camera will deliver better results for those use cases, and Security Australia stocks options across all of those categories.
- Pairs well with: A compatible ONVIF NVR or AXIS Camera Station-based recording system with panoramic dewarping support, ensuring the full 360-degree view can be monitored, reviewed, and exported correctly.
Common Questions
-
Does this camera cover the full room or just the corner area near the mount?
Yes - the full room. The P9117-PV is specifically designed to look outward from the corner junction across the entire space, not inward toward the corner. Its 360-degree panoramic lens captures both adjacent walls and the full floor area simultaneously. This is the defining purpose of the corner-mount form factor and what differentiates it from a standard wide-angle dome placed in a similar position. -
Will this camera work on a standard PoE switch?
Yes. The P9117-PV operates on IEEE 802.3af PoE, which is the standard power class supported by the vast majority of PoE network switches and NVRs. A single Cat5e or Cat6 cable carries both power and network data to the camera. You do not need a PoE+ (802.3at) switch or injector for this model. -
How does the dewarping work and does my NVR need to support it?
The P9117-PV produces a panoramic image that requires dewarping to present the scene in a flat, usable format for monitoring and review. Dewarping can be handled either by the camera itself (delivering a corrected stream to any connected recorder) or by the VMS platform. AXIS Camera Station supports this natively. If you are using a third-party NVR or VMS, confirm it supports Axis ONVIF panoramic streams with dewarping before specifying this camera - not all generic recorders process the geometry correctly, and without dewarping the raw image will appear distorted and difficult to review. -
What are the DORI distances for this camera - can it identify faces across a large room?
Identification distances are reduced compared to a fixed narrow-angle camera because the 6MP resolution is distributed across a full 360-degree panoramic field rather than concentrated on a single zone. In practical terms, the P9117-PV is designed to deliver observation and detection-level clarity across the full room, and recognition-level detail at closer range. For applications where reliable facial identification at 8-10 metres or more is the primary requirement - such as access control verification or entrance monitoring - a dedicated fixed-focal-length or varifocal camera positioned on that specific point will outperform a panoramic device. -
Will this camera work in a room that is dark or only dimly lit at night?
No. The P9117-PV does not carry IR illuminators and relies entirely on ambient light in the room. In spaces that are unlit or significantly dimmed outside business hours, the camera will not produce usable footage without supplementary lighting. If your site requires after-hours monitoring in unlit conditions, either plan for continuous or motion-triggered ambient lighting in the space, or consider a camera type with built-in IR or full-colour low-light capability for those positions. -
Does the corner-mount housing fit a standard 90-degree wall junction or does it need a special bracket?
The P9117-PV housing is engineered specifically for standard 90-degree wall-to-wall corner junctions at ceiling height. No additional bracket is required for a standard corner installation. Non-standard angles, curved walls, or architectural columns will not suit this mount and would require a different camera form factor to achieve equivalent coverage.
