Product Overview
Model: AXIS P3267-LVE
Who This Is For
For security managers and installers who need a compact outdoor dome that delivers genuine forensic detail at the edge, the AXIS P3267-LVE is a strong contender. It suits sites where fixed cameras must adapt to changing conditions - carpark entries, building perimeters, transport hubs, and commercial forecourts - where a 3-8mm varifocal lens lets you dial in the field of view from the NVR rather than climbing a ladder. The 5MP sensor pairs with Lightfinder 2.0 and Forensic WDR, meaning colour and contrast hold up whether the sun is behind a vehicle or the area drops to near-total darkness. AXIS Object Analytics runs on the built-in ARTPEC-8 processor, classifying humans, vehicles, and vehicle types without offloading to a server. IK10 and IP66 ratings make it a practical choice for exposed installations where vandal resistance and weatherproofing are non-negotiable requirements.
What This Camera Actually Does
5MP with Forensic WDR
The 5MP sensor captures enough pixel density to isolate faces or number plates from a wider scene crop. Forensic WDR handles simultaneous bright and dark zones - think a shaded doorway next to a sunlit carpark - keeping both readable in a single frame rather than blowing out one end.
Lightfinder 2.0 Low-Light Colour
Lightfinder 2.0 pushes the sensor sensitivity to retain colour in conditions where most cameras switch to greyscale. Combined with OptimizedIR 850nm LEDs reaching up to 40 metres, the camera produces usable footage in complete darkness without auxiliary lighting infrastructure.
Edge-Based Object Analytics
AXIS Object Analytics runs on the ARTPEC-8 chip's deep learning processing unit, classifying humans, vehicles, and vehicle types directly on the camera. This offloads processing from the VMS server, reduces false alarm rates compared to pixel-based motion detection, and keeps analysis latency low.
Remote Varifocal Lens
The 3-8mm motorised varifocal lens supports remote zoom and autofocus adjustment. Once the camera is mounted, the field of view and focus can be set from a laptop or VMS without revisiting the install point - practical on high ceilings, covered soffits, or any position where physical access is difficult.
Zipstream Bandwidth Savings
Axis Zipstream with H.264 and H.265 reduces bitrate on static or low-activity scenes by dynamically lowering the data rate and lifting it when motion or detail matters. On a multi-camera system this compounds into meaningful NAS or cloud storage cost reductions without altering recorded image quality in active areas.
IK10 Vandal Resistance and IP66 Sealing
The IK10 polycarbonate dome housing withstands 20 joules of direct impact. IP66 and NEMA 4X ratings confirm full dust exclusion and resistance to high-pressure water jets. Operating across -40°C to 50°C, the camera handles Australian climate extremes from alpine sites to north Queensland heat.
Who Buys This Model
- Commercial Property Installers: Specifying outdoor domes for carpark structures, building entries, and loading areas where IK10 vandal resistance and a remotely adjustable varifocal lens reduce post-installation site revisits.
- Transport and Logistics Operators: Needing on-camera classification of vehicles and persons at depot entries without adding a separate analytics server to an already loaded network.
- Local Government and Council Facilities Teams: Deploying cameras in exposed outdoor environments across a wide temperature range, where IP66 and -40°C cold-start capability matter for installations in southern states or coastal sites.
- Integrators on Axis ACAP Ecosystems: Extending the camera's capability with ACAP v4 third-party applications - licence plate logging, occupancy counting, retail analytics - using the ARTPEC-8 DLPU without additional hardware.
- Security Consultants Specifying High-Consequence Sites: Where Axis Edge Vault hardware-level cybersecurity, SD card AES-256 encryption, and NEMA 4X compliance are specified requirements, not optional extras.
Honest Assessment
The P3267-LVE does several things well at once: the ARTPEC-8 chip handles deep learning analytics on the camera itself, the 5MP sensor with Forensic WDR and Lightfinder 2.0 covers a broad range of lighting conditions, and the IK10/IP66 housing is genuinely built for outdoor exposure. The remotely adjustable varifocal lens is a real time-saver on difficult installs. Zipstream compression meaningfully reduces storage overhead on deployments with many channels running continuously. Where this camera is not the right fit: it carries an audio input connector but no confirmed built-in speaker, so true two-way audio requires an external speaker and amplifier. It is also a fixed dome - if your site needs wide-area tracking, operator-directed pan and tilt, or optical zoom beyond 8mm, a PTZ or multi-sensor camera available through Security Australia will serve that requirement more directly. At 5MP it is a strong forensic tool, but for dedicated licence plate capture at speed, a purpose-built ANPR camera warrants consideration.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: The P3267-LVE draws a maximum of 12.1W and is rated to IEEE 802.3at Type 1 Class 3 - standard 802.3af switches will power it, but confirm your switch port budget before deploying across a large panel. If you are enabling AXIS Object Analytics and additional ACAP applications simultaneously, validate that your switch supports the actual wattage draw under load, not just the nominal PoE class. The camera mounts to standard double-gang, single-gang, and 4-inch octagon junction boxes, so existing conduit rough-ins are typically compatible without additional adapters.
Lens Setup Note: The 3-8mm motorised varifocal lens supports remote zoom and autofocus via the camera's web interface or a compatible VMS. Set zoom and focus after the camera is physically secured and the dome bubble re-attached, as dome refraction affects the final image compared to what you see with the dome removed during rough aim.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need an outdoor dome with on-camera human and vehicle classification at a site where running analytics to a separate server is impractical - the ARTPEC-8 DLPU handles AXIS Object Analytics locally without additional hardware.
- Good match if: The installation is in a high-abuse or exposed location where IK10 vandal resistance, IP66 weatherproofing, and a -40°C operating range all need to be confirmed on the product specification sheet rather than assumed.
- You may need a different model if: Your primary requirement is operator-directed wide-area coverage with optical zoom and pan/tilt control - a PTZ camera type is designed for that application and will cover more ground from a single mounting point.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need on-camera deep learning classification of humans and vehicles at a site where server-side analytics is not practical, and IK10 vandal resistance plus IP66 weatherproofing must both be confirmed on the datasheet.
- You may need a different model if: Your site requires operator-controlled coverage across a large open area - a PTZ camera type provides optical zoom, pan and tilt, and auto-tracking that a fixed dome cannot replicate regardless of its resolution.
- Pairs well with: A compatible Axis NVR or an open-platform VMS with native AXIS Object Analytics integration, and a PoE switch with sufficient per-port budget to support up to 12.1W per camera position.
Common Questions
-
Does the P3267-LVE work with a standard PoE switch?
Yes. The camera is IEEE 802.3af/802.3at Type 1 Class 3 rated, so it runs on any standard PoE switch that delivers at least 12.1W per port at maximum load. You do not need a PoE+ switch. A single Cat5e or Cat6 cable carries both power and data to the camera, eliminating separate power cabling at the mount point. Confirm your switch's per-port budget rather than total switch wattage when deploying multiple units across one panel. -
Will this camera classify vehicles as well as people, or only detect motion?
Yes, it classifies vehicles and people. AXIS Object Analytics runs on the ARTPEC-8 chip's built-in DLPU and differentiates humans, vehicles, and types of vehicles - not just pixel-level motion. This means the camera can generate separate alert rules for a person crossing a line versus a vehicle entering a zone, reducing operator alert fatigue compared to standard motion detection. -
Can I adjust the zoom and focus after the camera is mounted without climbing back up?
Yes. The 3-8mm varifocal lens is motorised and supports remote zoom and autofocus from the camera's web interface or a compatible VMS. Set the final zoom and focus with the dome bubble fitted, as the polycarbonate dome affects refraction and the in-air image will not exactly match the finished result. This remote adjustment is one of the camera's practical advantages on high or awkward mount positions. -
Does the P3267-LVE support two-way audio?
Not without additional hardware. The camera has a 3.5mm mic/line input connector but no confirmed built-in speaker. Audio input is available for connecting an external microphone to add sound recording. For two-way audio you would need to pair the camera with an external powered speaker connected to a compatible output device or intercom system. -
How does Axis Zipstream affect storage requirements on a multi-camera system?
It reduces them significantly in practice. Zipstream with H.265 dynamically lowers the bitrate on static or low-activity scenes and raises it when detail or motion requires it. On a 16-camera deployment with typical commercial activity, the cumulative storage saving versus fixed-bitrate H.264 can be substantial - the exact reduction depends on scene complexity, frame rate, and quality settings. Available through Security Australia, the P3267-LVE's Zipstream implementation works with both local microSD storage and NAS recording. -
What does Axis Edge Vault actually provide, and why does it matter on a commercial site?
Edge Vault is a hardware security module built into the ARTPEC-8 chip that stores the camera's unique Axis device ID and cryptographic keys in protected hardware rather than software. In practice it means the camera can prove its identity on your network, signed firmware prevents unauthorised firmware from loading, and secure boot verifies the camera's software chain at startup. On government, critical infrastructure, or enterprise sites where cybersecurity compliance is audited, this is a documented hardware-level protection - not a software setting that can be patched out. -
Is the P3267-LVE suitable for third-party analytics applications beyond AXIS Object Analytics?
Yes. The camera supports ACAP version 4, which is Axis's open application platform. Third-party developers publish ACAP v4 applications including retail analytics, occupancy counting, licence plate logging, and other edge processing tasks. These run directly on the ARTPEC-8 DLPU without a separate server. Check ACAP application compatibility with the P3267-LVE specifically before purchasing a third-party license, as not all ACAP applications support every camera model in the Axis range.
