Product Overview

Model: AXIS P3265-LVE

Who This Is For

Property managers specifying outdoor surveillance for commercial buildings, car parks, or education campuses where a single camera needs to cover variable distances without a site revisit to adjust focus. The AXIS P3265-LVE is a 2MP outdoor dome with a 3.4-8.9mm motorised varifocal lens, meaning installers can set zoom and focus remotely through the camera's web interface once it is mounted - no ladder return required. The integrated IR illumination, IK10-rated housing, and built-in deep learning processor make this a strong candidate for perimeter walls, building facades, and covered walkways where image accuracy under mixed lighting and automated object detection both matter. It suits installers who want a camera that can be tuned precisely to the coverage zone after the cable is run.

What This Camera Actually Does

Remote Varifocal Lens

The 3.4-8.9mm motorised lens lets installers dial in the exact field of view after mounting via the camera's web interface. No manual adjustment at the dome head means faster commissioning on multi-camera jobs and fewer call-backs when coverage zones need to change.

Deep Learning Object Analytics

The onboard deep learning processing unit runs AXIS Object Analytics natively, classifying humans and vehicles at the camera edge. This reduces false alarms from foliage, animals, or changing light without relying on server-side processing or cloud services.

AXIS Lightfinder 2.0 with IR

Lightfinder 2.0 keeps colour rendering accurate in low ambient light. When light drops further, the built-in IR illumination provides usable monochrome footage in near-total darkness, covering outdoor zones that have no artificial lighting after hours.

Forensic WDR

Wide Dynamic Range - Forensic Capture is designed to retain detail simultaneously in bright and shaded areas - useful at entrances where direct sunlight on one side and shadowed overhangs on the other would otherwise blow out or obscure part of the frame.

IK10 Vandal-Resistant Housing

The IK10-rated dome housing is rated to withstand 20 joules of impact. Combined with IP66/IP67 weather sealing and NEMA 4X compliance, the camera is built for exposed outdoor positions where physical interference is a realistic concern.

Electronic Image Stabilisation

Built-in electronic image stabilisation compensates for vibration caused by wind, rooftop HVAC equipment, or structural movement. This keeps footage usable in positions where a rigid mounting surface is not always achievable.

Who Buys This Model

  • Commercial building managers: Specifying dome cameras for building facades, service entries, and covered walkways where IK10 resistance and all-weather sealing are required by the client brief.
  • Education facility installers: Deploying cameras across large campuses where coverage zones vary between wide corridor views and tighter stairwell approaches - the varifocal lens handles both without stocking multiple fixed-lens models.
  • Security integrators on AXIS VMS platforms: The P3265-LVE runs AXIS Object Analytics natively and integrates directly into AXIS Camera Station and third-party ONVIF-compatible video management systems, reducing server load for analytics.
  • Car park operators: Needing verified human and vehicle detection in mixed-light environments, where Lightfinder 2.0 and the deep learning processor reduce nuisance alerts from headlight glare or moving shadows.
  • Healthcare and aged care facilities: Requiring a low-profile outdoor dome with reliable after-hours IR coverage for perimeter paths, car parks, and emergency access points without a high-visibility bullet camera profile.

Honest Assessment

The AXIS P3265-LVE does several things genuinely well. The motorised varifocal lens is a real installation advantage - setting the field of view remotely after the camera is mounted saves time on multi-point jobs and makes future adjustments straightforward. The onboard deep learning processor is not a marketing label; AXIS Object Analytics running at the edge genuinely reduces false trigger rates compared to standard motion detection, which matters for after-hours monitoring where nuisance alerts are a recurring problem. The IK10 housing and IP66/IP67 sealing are confirmed, not estimated, which gives confidence for exposed external positions. Where this camera will not be the right fit: if you need colour night vision without IR illumination, a full-colour always-on outdoor camera will serve better. For wide-area coverage from a single mount point, a multi-sensor panoramic camera available through Security Australia may reduce the total camera count on larger sites. This model is 2MP - if licence plate legibility at distance is a primary goal, a higher-resolution fixed or ANPR-specific model is worth considering.

Before You Buy

Installer Note: The P3265-LVE is powered by standard IEEE 802.3af PoE - a single Cat5e or Cat6 run handles both power and data. However, if you intend to use the camera's built-in heater in cold climate deployments, confirm your switch port can supply the full 802.3af budget (12.95W maximum), as heater activation draws toward the ceiling of the standard PoE allocation. Plan cable runs with that power budget in mind before finalising switch selection.

Lens Setting Note: The 3.4-8.9mm varifocal range provides approximately 94° at the wide end down to roughly 36° at full telephoto on a 1/2.8" sensor. Set the zoom level during commissioning using live view - the remote focus function works best when the target scene is lit, so schedule lens configuration during daylight on exterior installs rather than after-hours sign-off.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You are mounting cameras on an exposed building exterior where the exact coverage angle will only be confirmed on the day, and you need to set focus and zoom remotely without returning to the camera head.
  • Good match if: Your VMS platform is AXIS Camera Station or an ONVIF-compatible system and you want human/vehicle analytics processed at the camera rather than consuming server resources.
  • You may need a different model if: Your primary requirement is wide-area outdoor coverage from a single mounting point - a multi-sensor panoramic or PTZ camera will deliver broader situational awareness with fewer camera positions and cabling runs.

Real-World Scenarios

Commercial Building Facade

Mounted under eaves at a multi-storey office entry, the varifocal lens is dialled remotely to frame the pedestrian approach and lobby doors. Forensic WDR keeps faces visible even when morning sun directly faces the camera.

Open-Air Car Park

AXIS Object Analytics classifies vehicles entering after hours and triggers alerts only on confirmed vehicle presence. Headlight glare and shadows from passing traffic no longer generate nuisance alarms that the monitoring team must process.

School Perimeter Path

Installed on a fence post along an unlit perimeter walkway, the IR illumination and Lightfinder 2.0 provide usable footage from dusk through to dawn. The IK10 housing resists opportunistic interference in an accessible outdoor location.

Hospital Service Corridor

Rotated to corridor format, the camera monitors a narrow covered external passage. The vertical frame orientation captures the full length of the walkway with fewer camera positions, reducing both cabling cost and NVR channel count.

Rooftop Plant Room

Electronic image stabilisation corrects vibration from HVAC units mounted on the same roof structure, keeping footage steady enough for review. The -50°C minimum operating temperature and built-in heater handle alpine or cold-climate rooftop installs without additional housing.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need a confirmed IK10-rated outdoor dome with a motorised varifocal lens, onboard deep learning analytics, and the Lightfinder 2.0 plus IR combination for sites where lens angle will be finalised during commissioning rather than at the design stage.
  • You may need a different model if: Your coverage requirement is wide-area outdoor monitoring from a single mount - a multi-sensor panoramic camera will provide a broader field with fewer cable runs and camera positions across large open spaces.
  • Pairs well with: An AXIS-compatible NVR or VMS server with AXIS Camera Station licensing, and a managed PoE switch with per-port power monitoring to confirm heater power draw at commissioning.

Common Questions

  1. Does the P3265-LVE work with standard PoE switches, or does it need PoE+?

Standard IEEE 802.3af PoE is sufficient - no PoE+ switch is required. The camera draws within the 802.3af Class 3 budget (maximum 12.95W). Note that when the built-in heater activates in cold ambient conditions, the camera will draw close to that ceiling, so avoid deploying on a switch port that is already heavily loaded by other devices sharing a shared power budget.
  2. Will this camera trigger alerts on animals or moving branches, or only on people and vehicles?

With AXIS Object Analytics configured, the camera classifies humans and vehicles specifically, and alerts can be set to fire only on those classes. Branches, animals, and other motion still register as scene change but will not trigger a human or vehicle alert unless they match the classification criteria - which substantially reduces nuisance alarm volume compared to standard motion detection zones.
  3. Can the lens be adjusted after the camera is mounted, or does it require physical access?

Yes - the lens is motorised and fully adjustable via the camera's web interface after mounting. Zoom and remote focus are both software-controlled through the AXIS device portal or compatible VMS. This is one of the practical advantages of the P3265-LVE for multi-camera commercial jobs: lens configuration does not require a return visit to the camera position.
  4. What does the IK10 rating actually mean for an outdoor install?

IK10 is the highest rating in the IEC 62262 impact protection standard, confirming the housing withstands a 20-joule impact - roughly equivalent to a 5kg object dropped from 40cm, or a deliberate strike with a blunt object. For outdoor positions on school grounds, car parks, or publicly accessible walls, this provides a confirmed level of physical resistance. The IP66/IP67 rating separately confirms full dust exclusion and protection against water jets and temporary immersion.
  5. Does this camera record locally if the network goes down?

Yes. The P3265-LVE has a microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC card slot supporting cards up to 1TB. AXIS edge storage with AXIS Camera Station or AXIS Companion allows the camera to record continuously or on motion to the local card, with footage synchronised back to the NVR when the network connection restores. This makes the camera suitable for locations with intermittent network infrastructure.
  6. Is the P3265-LVE compatible with third-party VMS platforms, or only AXIS software?

The camera supports ONVIF Profile S, G, and T, making it compatible with the majority of enterprise and mid-market VMS platforms beyond AXIS Camera Station. Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon, Bosch, and others with full ONVIF Profile T support will work, though AXIS Object Analytics results are best surfaced through AXIS-native or AXIS-integrated VMS environments. The camera is stocked by Security Australia and can be specified as part of a broader ONVIF-based system design.
  7. How does electronic image stabilisation affect the usable field of view?

EIS works by using a portion of the sensor's image area as a buffer to compensate for camera movement, which means the effective field of view is slightly narrower than the full optical field when stabilisation is active. In practical terms on the P3265-LVE's varifocal range, this is a minor crop - typically a few degrees - that is factored in during lens configuration. Set the zoom level with EIS enabled so the final framed scene reflects exactly what will be recorded.
