Product Overview
Model: AXIS P3267-LVE
Who This Is For
Property managers specifying outdoor cameras for high-traffic areas - car parks, building entrances, loading zones - who need more than basic motion detection will find the AXIS P3267-LVE worth a close look. This is a 5MP outdoor dome camera built around Axis' ARTPEC-8 chip, which puts deep learning analytics on the camera itself rather than relying on server-side processing. The 3-8mm varifocal lens lets installers dial in the field of view from the roof or ceiling position without sending someone back up a ladder, and the OptimizedIR reaches 40 metres in complete darkness. The IK10-rated, IP66-rated housing takes direct weather exposure and physical knocks without concern. It suits sites where AXIS Object Analytics - human and vehicle classification at the edge - matters for reducing false alarm workload, and where the cabling infrastructure is already PoE-capable.
What This Camera Actually Does
5MP with Forensic WDR
Forensic WDR handles scenes with mixed bright and dark zones - entrance canopies, roller door openings, sun through windows - by exposing both zones correctly in the same frame. At 5MP you get usable detail for face and plate identification within the camera's recognition range.
Lightfinder 2.0 Low-Light Colour
Lightfinder 2.0 maintains colour imaging in near-darkness before the IR kicks in. This matters for sites where ambient lighting is minimal but colour differentiation - clothing, vehicle colour, signage - is useful for event review.
OptimizedIR at 40m
The 850nm IR illumination adjusts automatically based on what is in the frame, avoiding blown-out close subjects while still reaching 40 metres on longer approaches. This makes it practical for car parks and pathways where distances vary considerably.
Deep Learning Analytics On-Camera
AXIS Object Analytics runs on the ARTPEC-8 deep learning processing unit inside the camera. It classifies humans and vehicles - including vehicle type - without sending data to a server for processing. This reduces false alarms from trees, shadows, and animals that trip standard motion zones.
Varifocal Lens with Remote Focus
The 3-8mm varifocal lens supports remote zoom and autofocus adjustment. Once mounted, an installer can fine-tune the field of view and focus point through the camera interface rather than physically adjusting the lens housing - practical for ceiling and high-wall positions.
Zipstream Bandwidth Compression
Axis Zipstream with H.264 and H.265 support reduces storage and bandwidth by dynamically lowering the bitrate in low-activity scene areas. On a multi-camera system, this difference in NVR storage costs adds up meaningfully over a retention period.
Who Buys This Model
- Commercial property managers: Specifying outdoor cameras for building entrances and car parks where IK10 vandal resistance and IP66 weatherproofing are mandatory requirements on the spec sheet.
- Systems integrators on enterprise sites: Deploying analytics-driven surveillance where reducing false alarm volume matters and where AXIS Object Analytics on the ARTPEC-8 chip removes the need for a separate analytics server licence.
- Facilities teams at schools and institutions: Replacing legacy cameras on existing PoE infrastructure where the standard IEEE 802.3af/at Type 1 Class 3 power draw keeps switch compatibility straightforward.
- Security consultants on edge-storage projects: Specifying cameras with microSDXC slot support and NAS recording capability for sites where continuous recording to an NVR is not the preferred architecture.
- IT managers managing cybersecurity risk: Selecting cameras with Axis Edge Vault hardware-based device identity protection for networks where unauthorised device access is a documented compliance concern.
Honest Assessment
The P3267-LVE does a specific job well: it is an outdoor dome with genuine edge analytics capability, solid low-light imaging through both Lightfinder 2.0 and 40m OptimizedIR, and a housing rated to handle both Australian outdoor conditions and deliberate interference. The remote varifocal lens makes post-install adjustments practical on hard-to-reach mounts. Zipstream compression has a measurable effect on storage across a multi-camera deployment, and the ARTPEC-8 chip means the object classification analytics are not an add-on - they are built into the camera's processing from the start.
What it will not do: the 3.5mm mic/line input requires an external microphone - there is no built-in speaker, so two-way audio is not available in this configuration. For sites needing wide-area single-point coverage or 180-degree corridor views, a panoramic or multi-sensor camera type would serve the layout better. The P3267-LVE is available through Security Australia alongside compatible Axis accessories and mounting hardware.
Before You Buy
Installer Note: The P3267-LVE draws a maximum of 12.1W, which falls within IEEE 802.3at Type 1 Class 3. Most modern PoE switches handle this without issue, but verify per-port power budgets on older switches before commissioning a multi-camera run. The I/O terminal block provides 1 supervised digital input and 1 digital output at 12V DC with a 25mA max load - confirm this is adequate if you are integrating door contacts or external indicators, as it is a single-channel I/O configuration.
Lens Note: The 3-8mm varifocal range gives a meaningful spread of field-of-view options, but for installations requiring coverage beyond 15-20 metres for identification-grade detail, plan the scene carefully using DORI calculations at your chosen focal length before finalising camera positions. At the 8mm end, the field of view narrows significantly, which can limit usefulness in wide open outdoor areas where a broader overview is needed alongside detail.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are mounting to eaves, soffits, or external walls on a commercial site and need a camera that can handle -40°C to 50°C operating temperature, direct weather exposure, and physical impact attempts without housing failure.
- Good match if: Your site runs AXIS Camera Station or a compatible VMS and you want AXIS Object Analytics human and vehicle classification running at the camera without purchasing separate analytics server licences.
- You may need a different model if: Your priority is covering a very wide open area from a single mount point - a panoramic or multi-sensor camera type will give you 180-degree or 360-degree coverage that a single fixed dome cannot match.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You need on-camera deep learning analytics with human and vehicle classification running without a server licence, combined with a rugged IK10/IP66 outdoor dome housing and 40m IR on a standard PoE feed.
- You may need a different model if: Your installation requires visible deterrence along a long outdoor approach or a building perimeter fence line - a bullet-style camera with a longer focal length and more prominent housing profile is a better fit for that application.
- Pairs well with: A compatible PoE NVR or AXIS Camera Station server with pre-built AXIS Object Analytics integration, or a managed PoE switch sized to the full system power budget.
Common Questions
-
Does the P3267-LVE work on a standard PoE switch, or does it need PoE+?
Standard PoE is sufficient. The P3267-LVE is rated IEEE 802.3af/802.3at Type 1 Class 3 with a typical draw of 6.4W and a maximum of 12.1W. That sits within the standard PoE Class 3 budget of 15.4W, so you do not need a PoE+ port. That said, confirm your switch's per-port power budget if you are running a fully loaded switch, as some budget switches derate power on higher port counts. -
Will this camera give me two-way audio for talking to people on site?
No. The P3267-LVE has a 3.5mm mic/line input for connecting an external microphone but does not have a built-in speaker. One-way audio capture is possible with an external mic connected, but two-way communication is not supported in this configuration. If two-way audio is a requirement, look at intercom or camera models with built-in speakers confirmed in the spec sheet. -
How does AXIS Object Analytics reduce false alarms compared to standard motion detection?
It classifies objects using a deep learning model running on the ARTPEC-8 chip inside the camera. Standard motion detection triggers on any pixel change - wind-blown foliage, headlight sweep, rain. AXIS Object Analytics identifies whether what moved is a human or a vehicle and what type of vehicle, and only triggers rules you configure around those classifications. This means a rule set to "alert on person after hours" will not fire when a cat or a shadow crosses the zone. -
Is the IR useful at the full 40 metres, or does image quality drop off at that distance?
At 40 metres you are at the outer limit of the OptimizedIR range and scene detail will depend heavily on the focal length you set. At 8mm the narrower field of view concentrates the image and IR energy further down the scene, making 40m more usable for a pathway or approach. At 3mm the wider field of view spreads both the image and the IR illumination, so practical identification-grade detail at 40m is unlikely. Size your IR expectations to the focal length you actually deploy. -
Can I store footage locally on the camera without a NVR?
Yes. The P3267-LVE has a microSDXC card slot that supports local recording with AES-XTS-Plain64 256-bit encryption on compatible cards. It also supports recording directly to a NAS over the network. Axis Zipstream in H.265 keeps card consumption down, but test your chosen card's write endurance against your planned recording bitrate and retention period before deployment. Axis publishes SD card recommendations on their support pages. -
What does Axis Edge Vault actually protect against?
Edge Vault is hardware-based protection for the camera's device identity certificate. It prevents an attacker from cloning the camera's identity to impersonate it on your network or inject unauthorised firmware. It also simplifies secure device onboarding in managed Axis deployments by providing a verifiable hardware root of trust. It is not a substitute for network-level access control, but it is a meaningful layer for enterprise and government sites where device identity verification is part of the security policy. The P3267-LVE is part of the Security Australia range and is supplied with full Axis warranty. -
Does the IK10 rating cover the dome bubble as well as the housing?
Yes. IK10 applies to the assembled unit including the polycarbonate hard-coated dome. IK10 is the highest impact-resistance rating in the IEC 62262 standard, corresponding to 20 joules of impact energy - equivalent to a 5kg mass dropped from 400mm. The dome is also the outer optical element, so any hard coating also serves to resist minor scratching under normal handling. The housing is IP66 and NEMA 4X rated for weatherproofing independently of the IK10 impact rating.
