Product Overview
Model: DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU / DS-7604NI-I1-4P
Who This Is For
For property owners and installers who need a complete, ready-to-record IP surveillance system without sourcing cameras and a recorder separately, this 6MP Hikvision AcuSense kit pairs 2 outdoor dome cameras with a 4-channel PoE NVR and a 4TB hard drive pre-installed. It suits small residential installs, home offices, and light commercial premises where coverage at 1 or 2 entry points is the priority. Each DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU dome delivers 6MP resolution with AcuSense human and vehicle classification, active strobe deterrence, and 30m IR night vision - meaning the NVR is receiving genuinely useful, filtered alerts rather than constant motion noise. With 2 spare PoE ports on the DS-7604NI-I1-4P, there is capacity to add cameras as coverage requirements grow. The 4TB drive is included and ready to record from day one.
What This Kit Actually Does
AcuSense Human and Vehicle Detection
Each camera uses deep learning to separate human and vehicle movement from background motion like trees, rain, or animals. This directly reduces nuisance alerts sent to your phone and NVR, so when an alert fires, it has a confirmed cause rather than a triggered pixel region.
6MP Resolution with 120 dB WDR
At 3072 x 2048 pixels, these cameras capture significantly more detail than a standard 2MP or 4MP camera at the same field of view. The 120 dB wide dynamic range handles scenes where bright sunlight and deep shade appear in the same frame, such as a driveway entrance or glass-fronted shopfront.
Active Strobe and Audio Alarm Deterrence
When the camera detects a classified human or vehicle target, it can trigger a visible strobe light and audible alarm to warn and deter. This turns a passive recording camera into an active site deterrent without requiring a separate siren or external device.
30m IR Night Vision with DarkFighter Low-Light
The 1/1.8" CMOS sensor with DarkFighter technology achieves 0.003 Lux minimum illumination in colour mode. At night the IR illuminators extend effective coverage to 30 metres, maintaining usable image detail across driveways, carparks, and rear yard approaches without external lighting.
4-Channel PoE NVR with 4TB Pre-Installed
The DS-7604NI-I1-4P powers and records cameras over standard network cable - no separate power adapters needed at each camera position. The 4TB hard drive is fitted from the factory, so the system is recording immediately without additional setup costs or a separate drive purchase.
2 Spare PoE Ports for Future Expansion
The NVR has 4 PoE ports but ships with 2 cameras, leaving 2 channels open. This lets installers or owners add compatible Hikvision IP cameras to cover additional areas without replacing the recorder, making the system practical for staged rollouts or growing sites.
Who Buys This Model
- Homeowners securing 1-2 entry points: A front driveway and rear gate covered by 2 x 6MP AcuSense domes, with the NVR and drive ready to go and 2 ports free for later additions.
- Small business owners managing nuisance alerts: Retail or office premises where standard motion detection generates too many false notifications - AcuSense classification filters alerts down to confirmed human or vehicle movement only.
- Rental property managers wanting deterrence capability: The active strobe and audio alarm on each camera adds a visible deterrent layer to a standard IP recording system without additional hardware cost.
- DIY installers doing a staged camera rollout: Buyers who want a properly scaled NVR with room to expand, starting with 2 cameras on a 4-channel recorder and adding more as budget or need allows.
- Installers pricing a complete entry-level commercial job: A single-SKU kit covering cameras, NVR, and storage simplifies quoting and ordering for small-scope jobs where a 4-channel system is appropriate.
Honest Assessment
This kit is strong value when the 2-camera count genuinely matches your coverage requirement. The 6MP AcuSense domes deliver meaningfully better image detail and smarter alert filtering than budget 2MP kits, and the 4TB drive gives comfortable retention at full resolution. The active strobe and alarm functions make these cameras more proactive than standard recording-only units. Where this kit will not serve you is when you need more than 4 cameras total, long-range coverage beyond 30m, or pan-tilt-zoom capability to actively track movement. If your site requires more camera positions, a higher-channel NVR is a better foundation - Security Australia stocks larger-channel Hikvision NVR and camera bundles that scale more appropriately. The 2-camera-on-4-channel configuration is also worth considering: it is practical for staged builds, but if you know you need 4 cameras now, ordering the complete 4-camera version avoids a second installation visit.
Complete Package Contents
- 2 x Hikvision DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU 6MP AcuSense Outdoor Dome Camera - 6MP, AcuSense, active strobe and alarm, 30m IR, IP67, PoE (802.3af)
- 1 x Hikvision DS-7604NI-I1-4P 4-Channel PoE NVR - 4 channels, 4 built-in PoE ports, 4TB HDD pre-installed
Before You Buy
PoE Budget Note: The DS-7604NI-I1-4P provides 802.3af (Class 3) PoE across its 4 ports. The DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU cameras draw within the 802.3af budget, so all 4 ports can power a camera simultaneously without issue. If you plan to add third-party cameras in the 2 remaining ports later, confirm those cameras also fall within 802.3af Class 3 power draw - the NVR does not support PoE+ (802.3at), so higher-draw cameras will require a separate power injector or switch.
AcuSense Setup: AcuSense detection rules are configured per-camera through the NVR interface. For best results, set detection zones to exclude areas with consistent non-target motion (busy roads visible in background, vegetation at frame edges). Out of the box the system will record and alert, but taking 15 minutes to define zones significantly reduces remaining false alerts and gets the most from the classification engine.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need to cover 1 or 2 outdoor areas now with a properly scalable 4-channel system - the 2 spare PoE ports mean you can add cameras without touching the NVR.
- Good match if: Nuisance alerts from existing systems are a problem - AcuSense human and vehicle classification on both cameras filters motion events down to targets that actually matter.
- You may need a different model if: You require 5 or more camera positions now - a higher-channel NVR kit will be a better foundation and avoid the cost of replacing the recorder later.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You want a complete PoE IP system with AcuSense classification and active deterrence cameras in a single purchase, with room to add 2 more cameras without changing the NVR.
- You may need a different model if: Your site needs 6 or 8 camera positions now - a higher-channel NVR kit will provide the correct headroom without an early recorder upgrade.
- Pairs well with: Additional Hikvision AcuSense dome or turret cameras (802.3af compatible) for the 2 open PoE ports, and a PoE network switch if expanding beyond the 4-channel NVR in the future.
Common Questions
-
Does this kit include everything needed to start recording, or do I need to buy a hard drive separately?
Everything is included. The DS-7604NI-I1-4P NVR ships with a 4TB hard drive pre-installed, so once you run your Cat5e or Cat6 cables from the NVR to the camera positions and connect power to the NVR, the system can begin recording without any additional purchases. -
Will the cameras work with my existing PoE switch if I want to connect them differently?
Yes. The DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU cameras support IEEE 802.3af PoE (Class 3), which is compatible with most standard managed or unmanaged PoE switches. If you use an external switch rather than the NVR's built-in ports, the cameras will still power and stream correctly - you simply connect them to the NVR via your network rather than directly. -
How does AcuSense actually reduce false alerts compared to standard motion detection?
AcuSense uses deep learning on the camera itself to classify detected objects as human, vehicle, or neither before triggering an alert. Standard pixel-based motion detection fires on any change in the frame - a tree moving, a car headlight sweeping, rain. AcuSense discards those non-target events, so alerts reaching your phone and NVR correspond only to confirmed human or vehicle movement in the detection zone. -
What does 120 dB WDR mean in a practical outdoor installation?
120 dB wide dynamic range means the camera can simultaneously expose for very bright areas and very dark areas in the same frame without losing detail in either. A common example is a driveway camera pointing toward a street - without WDR, the sky and ambient light would blow out the image and the foreground subject would be a silhouette. At 120 dB, the camera balances both exposure zones and retains usable detail across the full scene. -
Does the strobe and alarm fire automatically or do I have to trigger it manually?
It can do both. The cameras support automatic triggering when AcuSense detects a classified human or vehicle target, or you can trigger the strobe and alarm manually through the NVR interface or Hik-Connect app. Configuring it as an automatic deterrent response to after-hours human detection is the most common setup for residential and small commercial applications. Security Australia stocks this kit with the full Hikvision firmware that supports both trigger modes. -
Can I add different brand cameras to the 2 spare PoE ports on the NVR?
It depends. The DS-7604NI-I1-4P supports ONVIF-compatible third-party cameras, but full feature integration - including AcuSense alerts, two-way audio management, and active deterrence control through the NVR interface - is only available with Hikvision cameras. Third-party cameras added via ONVIF will record and display video but may not pass AI event data or deterrence commands through the NVR. -
How much continuous recording will 4TB support at 6MP with 2 cameras?
Recording duration depends on scene activity, H.265+ compression efficiency, and frame rate settings. As a practical guide, 2 x 6MP cameras recording continuously at typical H.265+ bitrates on a 4TB drive will generally provide between 20 and 35 days of footage before the drive loops and begins overwriting the oldest recordings. Higher motion scenes or increased frame rate settings will reduce this figure. Lowering the bitrate or enabling motion-triggered recording only will extend it significantly.
Cabling Considerations
- Cable Type: Cat5e minimum, Cat6 recommended for all camera runs.
- Max Cable Run: 100m per cable run from NVR PoE port to camera (standard IEEE PoE limit). Runs beyond 100m require a PoE extender or mid-span injector.
- PoE Notes: NVR ports supply 802.3af (Class 3, up to 15.4W per port). The DS-2CD2166G2H-ISU draws within this budget. Do not connect 802.3at (PoE+) cameras to these ports.
- Wiring Tips: Run Cat6 from the NVR location to each camera position before finalising mount points. Both cameras pull data and power over a single cable each - no separate power cabling is required at the camera end. Leave sufficient service loop at each camera position (300-400mm) to allow for dome adjustment after mounting.
