Quick Buying Summary

The Solar-CCTV Kit delivers wire-free 8MP AcuSense surveillance for remote and off-grid locations where mains power is not available. The integrated solar panel, lithium battery, and mounting bracket work together to provide stable, long-term power to the Hikvision Liveguard turret camera without any cabling to an electrical supply. Built-in two-way audio, active strobe, and audible alarm give the camera genuine deterrence capability, not just recording.

Why This Model

  • Truly off-grid operation: The solar panel and lithium battery combination powers the camera continuously without mains or network cabling, making it deployable at rural properties, gates, water sources, or construction sites where running cable is impractical.
  • AcuSense active deterrence: Deep learning-based human and vehicle classification triggers the onboard strobe light and audible alarm only for genuine threats, warning off intruders in real time rather than just recording the event.
  • 8MP 4K resolution with 30m IR: The 3840 x 2160 sensor captures fine detail at distance - useful for identifying faces or plates in locations where a single camera must cover a wide, unlit area overnight.

Product Overview

Model: Solar Kit Version - Hikvision 8MP

Who This Is For

When running mains power to a camera location is the primary obstacle, this solar CCTV kit removes that problem entirely. The system pairs a multi-module solar panel, lithium battery, and mounting bracket with the Hikvision 8MP Liveguard AcuSense turret - a camera that actively deters intruders using a built-in strobe light and audible alarm rather than just recording. That combination is well suited to rural properties, remote paddock entries, unmanned construction compounds, water infrastructure, and rural road monitoring where trenching cable is either impractical or cost-prohibitive. AcuSense deep-learning classification reduces false alerts by distinguishing people and vehicles from other motion triggers, which matters when the site is unattended and every false notification wastes a response. If you need 8MP detail, active deterrence, and wire-free deployment in a single package, this kit addresses all three.

What This System Actually Does

Off-Grid Solar Power

The kit's solar panel charges an onboard lithium battery, providing stable power output to the camera without any mains connection. This makes it deployable at remote gates, fence lines, and infrastructure where running cable is not viable. Operation continues through overnight periods and overcast days on stored battery capacity.

Active Liveguard Deterrence

When AcuSense detects a classified human or vehicle target, the camera can trigger a visible strobe light and an audible alarm on the spot - before an intruder reaches the protected area. This moves the camera from a passive recording device to an active first-response tool without requiring security staff on site.

8MP 4K Imaging

The 3840 x 2160 sensor delivers enough pixel density to crop into footage and retain identifiable detail on faces, number plates, and clothing at practical distances. With a 6 mm lens, the DORI recognition distance extends to 28 m, and identification reaches 14 m - meaningful for narrow access points and gate entries.

DarkFighter Low-Light Performance

The 1/1.8" sensor with F1.6 aperture captures colour detail down to 0.003 Lux before switching to IR night mode. At remote sites without ambient street lighting, this means usable colour footage in near-dark conditions rather than relying solely on IR monochrome imaging up to 30 m.

Two-Way Audio

With both a built-in microphone and built-in speaker, an operator can listen in and speak through the camera in real time. At unmanned sites this allows verbal challenge of a detected intruder directly from a monitoring centre or mobile device before dispatching a response.

Who Buys This Model

  • Rural and Farming Properties: Owners needing gate entry or water trough monitoring at locations hundreds of metres from any power source, where solar deployment is the only practical solution.
  • Construction Site Managers: Temporary compound and plant yard monitoring where power infrastructure is not yet in place and active deterrence is needed to discourage after-hours theft.
  • Water Authority and Infrastructure Operators: Monitoring pump stations, weirs, or drainage infrastructure in remote locations where the Liveguard strobe and audible alarm can challenge unauthorised access without permanent staff on site.
  • Security Integrators Solving Remote Briefs: Installers who regularly face the question of how to cover a location with no nearby mains supply - this kit packages the power system and camera together and removes the need to source and match components separately.

Honest Assessment

This kit does two things well. First, it genuinely removes the mains power constraint - the solar panel and lithium battery combination is designed for long-term remote deployment, not just temporary use. Second, the Hikvision Liveguard camera is one of the few 8MP turrets that can actively respond to a detection event rather than just log it: the strobe and audible alarm triggered by AcuSense classification adds a deterrence layer that passive cameras cannot. The 120 dB WDR also handles challenging sunrise and sunset backlight conditions that rural entry points frequently produce. What this kit will not do is provide continuous PTZ coverage or any optical zoom - the lens is fixed, and angle adjustment is manual at install time. If wide-area sweeping, auto-tracking, or long-range identification beyond 28 m is the requirement, a PTZ or multi-sensor system available through Security Australia would serve that brief better. Power autonomy in extended low-sun periods (heavy overcast for multiple days) should also be assessed against local conditions before relying solely on solar.

Complete Package Contents

  • 1 x Hikvision 8MP Liveguard AcuSense Turret Camera - 3840x2160, IP67, strobe + audible alarm, two-way audio, IR 30 m, lens options 2.8/4/6 mm
  • 1 x Solar Panel Module - for off-grid camera power supply
  • 1 x Lithium Battery Module - stores solar charge for overnight and low-sun operation
  • 1 x Mounting Bracket - secures the solar panel and battery assembly at the installation point

Before You Buy

Solar Panel Orientation: The panel must receive direct unshaded sunlight for a meaningful portion of the day to sustain the lithium battery. Before committing to a mounting position, assess the installation point for shade from trees, buildings, or terrain at different times of day and across seasons. A north-facing panel angle will maximise exposure in Australian conditions. Sites with consistent shading will undercharge the battery and risk camera downtime.

Lens Selection at Install: The camera ships with a fixed focal lens - choose 2.8 mm for wide entry coverage (111° horizontal), 4 mm for a balanced approach (87° horizontal), or 6 mm for a narrower corridor or gate lane where identification at distance is the priority (DORI identification distance: 14 m). This decision is made at installation time and cannot be changed in software. Confirm your scene width and required identification distance before selecting a lens variant.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: Your installation site has no access to mains power and you need a camera that can actively deter intruders - the solar power system and Liveguard strobe plus audible alarm handle both requirements without additional infrastructure.
  • Good match if: You need 8MP detail at a remote rural entry or compound gate where AcuSense human and vehicle classification reduces nuisance alerts from animals or vegetation movement during unattended monitoring periods.
  • You may need a different model if: Your site requires motorised zoom, continuous pan and tilt, or auto-tracking of moving subjects across a large open area - a PTZ camera system would be more appropriate for that coverage requirement.

Real-World Scenarios

Remote Farm Gate

A 4 mm lens positioned at a rural property entrance covers approaching vehicles at 87° horizontal. AcuSense classifies the approaching vehicle before it reaches the gate, triggering the Liveguard strobe and audio alert while the owner receives a notification on their phone - all without a power line within 500 m.

Construction Compound After Hours

Mounted on a site fence post, the camera runs overnight on battery stored during the day. A person approaching the plant storage area triggers the audible alarm and strobe instantly. The two-way audio lets a monitoring centre verbally challenge the intruder - often enough to end the attempt without a physical response.

Water Pump Station

A remote irrigation pump station with no grid connection uses this kit to monitor the access gate. The 120 dB WDR handles sunrise backlight when operators typically attend. DarkFighter low-light colour imaging captures useful detail in overcast or dusk conditions without relying solely on IR.

Forest Trail or Fire Track

Positioned at the entry of a restricted track, the 6 mm lens covers a narrow corridor with a 51° horizontal field of view and a 140 m detection distance. Vehicles triggering the camera at range give operators time to assess intent well before the subject reaches any sensitive area or infrastructure.

Temporary Event or Pop-Up Site

When a site needs camera coverage for a defined period without permanent infrastructure, the solar kit deploys and relocates without any cabling. H.265+ compression keeps storage and bandwidth demands low when transmitting over cellular, making it practical for temporary monitoring via a mobile NVR or cloud connection.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: Your site has no mains power access and you need a camera that can both detect and actively deter intruders using AcuSense classification to trigger a strobe and alarm.
  • You may need a different model if: You need the camera to follow moving subjects automatically, perform motorised zoom, or cover an open area from a single point - a solar-powered PTZ system would be more appropriate for that requirement.
  • Pairs well with: A cellular or Wi-Fi router at the installation point to transmit footage to a cloud platform or remote NVR, removing the need for any wired data infrastructure alongside the wire-free power setup.

Common Questions

  1. Does this kit work completely without mains power?

Yes. The solar panel charges the lithium battery during daylight hours, and the battery sustains the camera through the night and during low-sun periods. The system is designed specifically to operate with no mains connection, making it suitable for remote gates, paddocks, and infrastructure sites where running a power cable is not feasible. Power autonomy in extended overcast conditions depends on the battery capacity relative to the camera's consumption, so assess local sun exposure before installing at heavily shaded positions.
  2. Will the strobe and alarm trigger on animals or blowing trees?

No - not when AcuSense is correctly configured. AcuSense uses deep-learning classification to distinguish people and vehicles from other motion sources such as animals, foliage, and lighting changes. The Liveguard strobe and audible alarm are linked to classified human or vehicle detections, not generic pixel motion. This significantly reduces the false alarm rate compared to standard motion-detection cameras, which is important at remote sites where every spurious alert wastes response time or desensitises operators.
  3. How does AcuSense classification actually work on this camera, and what are its limits?

AcuSense analyses the shape and movement pattern of detected objects using an onboard deep-learning model trained on people and vehicle profiles. When a target matches either class, the camera fires the alert - including the Liveguard deterrence output. The system does not detect specific individuals by face, does not read number plates, and does not distinguish vehicle types beyond classifying them as vehicles. Classification accuracy is highest when the subject is adequately lit and fills a reasonable portion of the frame - very small or partially obscured subjects at the edge of the IR range may be missed or misclassified. Correct lens selection and camera aim angle directly affect classification reliability.
  4. What triggers the Liveguard strobe and alarm - and can I control the response?

The strobe and audible alarm are triggered by an AcuSense-classified detection event - a confirmed human or vehicle target. Via the camera's configuration interface (Hik-Connect app or iVMS-4200 software), you can set active hours for the deterrence response, adjust sensitivity zones, and choose whether the deterrence fires automatically or requires manual operator activation via two-way audio interaction. This lets you configure the camera to alarm automatically overnight but switch to alert-only during business hours when staff are present, reducing unnecessary activations.
  5. Does the 8MP resolution help with number plate identification at a gate entry?

It depends on the lens selected and the vehicle's distance and speed. With the 6 mm lens, the DORI identification distance is 14 m and recognition distance is 28 m - at those ranges and with a slow-moving or stationary vehicle, 8MP provides enough pixel density to read most plates. At faster approach speeds or beyond those distances, plate legibility will reduce. This camera is not an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system and does not extract or log plate data automatically. For dedicated plate capture on a busy entry, a purpose-built ANPR camera would be more appropriate.
  6. How does the camera connect to a recorder or monitoring platform without an Ethernet run to the site?

The camera transmits data over a network connection - at a remote site without fixed cabling, this typically means pairing it with a local cellular router or Wi-Fi access point that connects to a cloud platform or remote NVR. The camera itself does not have built-in cellular or Wi-Fi - it uses a standard wired network interface. A 4G/5G router placed at the installation point, powered by the same solar battery system or a separate supply, bridges the camera to the monitoring network. Security Australia stocks compatible networking hardware for exactly this type of remote deployment scenario.
  7. Is this camera suited to monitoring a large open paddock or wide property perimeter?

Only partially. With a 2.8 mm lens the horizontal field of view reaches 111°, which covers a wide scene, but the DORI identification distance at that focal length is only 8.9 m. For a large open paddock where you need to identify subjects at 30 m or beyond, a single fixed turret - regardless of resolution - will not deliver reliable identification. A PTZ camera with optical zoom, or multiple fixed cameras covering overlapping zones, would address wide-area perimeter monitoring more effectively.
