Product Overview
Model: HiLook Turret Kit 8MP/8CH AcuSense T282
Who This Is For
For property owners and small business operators who need a complete, ready-to-run 4K surveillance system without the complexity of sourcing cameras and recorders separately. This HiLook by Hikvision 8MP AcuSense 8-channel kit pairs 4 x IPC-T282H-MU turret cameras with a matched 8-channel PoE NVR, giving you everything required to cover the key entry points, car parks, and perimeters of a home, small office, or light commercial site. AcuSense AI detection filters alerts down to confirmed human and vehicle events, which cuts out the nuisance notifications from wind-blown trees and passing animals. The turret housing suits eave, soffit, and wall mounting, and the built-in microphone on each camera captures on-site audio alongside video. With 4 channels spare, the system has room to grow if coverage needs expand later.
What This System Actually Does
8MP 4K Image Quality
Each IPC-T282H-MU captures at 8 megapixels, giving you enough image detail to identify faces, read number plates at close range, and zoom into recorded footage without the image breaking down into pixelated blocks. This is a meaningful step above the 4MP and 5MP cameras common at this price range.
AcuSense Human and Vehicle Detection
The onboard AcuSense engine classifies moving objects as either human or vehicle before triggering an alert. Motion from animals, blowing foliage, or shifting shadows does not generate a notification, which makes the alert system genuinely useful rather than something most users disable after a week.
IR Night Vision
The built-in IR illuminators on each turret camera switch on automatically after dark, providing monochrome night coverage without requiring any external lighting. This covers the typical low-light conditions at residential entries, driveways, and small car parks where ambient lighting is inconsistent.
Single-Cable PoE Installation
The NVR's built-in PoE switch powers and connects all 4 cameras over a single Cat5e or Cat6 run per camera. There is no need for a separate power supply at each camera location, which simplifies the install considerably and reduces points of failure.
Built-In Microphone
Each IPC-T282H-MU includes a built-in microphone, recording ambient audio alongside the video stream. This adds context to recorded events - voices, breaking glass, or vehicles - and is useful for incident review or where audio evidence may be needed alongside visual footage.
8-Channel Capacity with Room to Expand
The included NVR supports 8 channels but ships with 4 cameras, leaving 4 ports available. Additional HiLook or Hikvision PoE cameras can be added later without replacing the recorder, which suits sites where coverage needs are expected to grow after initial installation.
Who Buys This Model
- Homeowners installing their first IP system: The matched NVR and 4 cameras remove the compatibility guesswork and the PoE setup means no electrician is needed at each camera point - just a cable run back to the recorder.
- Small business owners in retail or hospitality: AcuSense detection means staff are only alerted when a person or vehicle enters a zone after hours, cutting false alarm fatigue in environments with variable motion like signage, flags, or nearby traffic.
- Residential builders and project managers: 4K resolution and spare NVR channels make this a practical handover package for new builds where the client wants a complete working system with scope to add cameras to cover a garage, side gate, or pool area later.
- Strata and property managers specifying common-area coverage: The turret form factor sits flush on eaves and soffits without the visual bulk of a bullet camera, and the NVR's H.265+ compression keeps storage requirements manageable across multiple channels recording continuously.
Honest Assessment
This kit does the core job well. The 8MP resolution gives you footage that holds up to digital zoom during incident review, and AcuSense classification is a genuine improvement over basic pixel-shift motion detection - it means the alert system stays enabled rather than being switched off because it fired every time a car passed the street. The single-cable PoE design keeps installation straightforward and the 8-channel NVR gives the system a clear upgrade path.
Where this kit has limits: the IPC-T282H-MU cameras use standard IR illumination, so night footage is monochrome rather than full colour. If your key coverage area is poorly lit and colour detail at night is important - for example, identifying clothing or vehicle colour in a car park - a full-colour or TiOC camera kit would be more suitable. This is also a 4-camera kit; larger sites or perimeters with more than 4 distinct coverage zones will need additional cameras budgeted separately. Available through Security Australia with support for HiLook and Hikvision compatible accessories.
Complete Package Contents
- 4 x HiLook IPC-T282H-MU Turret Camera - 8MP, AcuSense AI detection, IR night vision, built-in microphone, PoE
- 1 x HiLook 8-Channel PoE NVR - 8CH, H.265+, built-in PoE switch, HDD bay (HDD not included unless specified)
Before You Buy
Hard Drive Not Included: The NVR in this kit ships without a hard drive. You will need to source a surveillance-rated HDD (Western Digital Purple or Seagate SkyHawk are recommended over standard desktop drives) before the system can record locally. Calculate storage based on the number of active channels, recording resolution, and how many days of footage you need to retain - 4 cameras at 8MP recording continuously will fill storage faster than lower-resolution systems.
AcuSense Setup Requires Configuration: AcuSense detection zones and alert types must be configured through the NVR interface after installation. Out of the box, the cameras default to standard motion detection. Allocating 20-30 minutes during commissioning to draw detection zones and set human/vehicle alert rules is what makes the AcuSense feature operate as intended.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You want a complete 4K PoE system with AI human and vehicle detection that can be installed without a separate power supply at each camera point and expanded to 8 cameras later.
- Good match if: You need a low-false-alarm alert system for a home, small office, or light commercial site where standard motion detection has previously proven too noisy to be useful.
- You may need a different model if: Your site requires full-colour night footage without any white-light illuminators, or you need more than 4 cameras covered from a single kit purchase - a full-colour or TiOC camera kit, or a higher-channel bundle, would be worth comparing on securityaustralia.com.au.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You want a complete 4K PoE kit with AcuSense AI alert filtering, a low-profile turret camera form factor, and 4 spare channels to expand the system without replacing the NVR.
- You may need a different model if: Night footage with full colour detail is essential - a full-colour or TiOC kit would serve that requirement better, and both options are worth comparing on the Security Australia website.
- Pairs well with: A surveillance-rated HDD for local storage, a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to keep the NVR running during short power outages, and additional compatible PoE turret or bullet cameras to fill the remaining 4 NVR channels.
Common Questions
-
Does this kit include a hard drive?
No. The NVR ships without a hard drive and requires a surveillance-rated HDD before it can record locally. Standard desktop drives are not recommended for 24/7 recording workloads. Western Digital Purple and Seagate SkyHawk are the commonly specified options. Drive capacity will depend on your retention period - 4 cameras recording at 8MP continuously will consume storage faster than a lower-resolution system, so factor that into your HDD selection. -
Will this system work with additional cameras I add later?
Yes. The 8-channel NVR has 4 PoE ports unused out of the box, so you can connect up to 4 additional compatible HiLook or Hikvision PoE cameras without replacing the recorder. Each extra camera connects directly to the NVR via a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable run. Check compatibility with the specific camera model before purchasing additional units. -
What does AcuSense actually do differently from standard motion detection?
AcuSense classifies detected motion as either human, vehicle, or other before deciding whether to send an alert. Standard motion detection triggers on any pixel change - including animals, moving shadows, or swaying vegetation. AcuSense filters those out at the camera level, so you receive a notification only when a person or vehicle enters the detection zone. This is configured through the NVR interface by drawing detection zones and selecting which event types trigger alerts. -
Does this system record audio?
Yes, audio recording is supported. Each IPC-T282H-MU has a built-in microphone that captures ambient audio at the camera location, which is recorded alongside the video stream on the NVR. Note that audio recording laws vary by state in Australia - recording in areas where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy may have legal implications. Check your local requirements before enabling audio recording in staff areas or similar spaces. -
What is the maximum cable run from the NVR to each camera?
The standard PoE maximum is 100 metres per cable run on Cat5e or Cat6. Beyond that distance, signal and power delivery become unreliable. If a camera position is further than 100m from the NVR, a PoE extender or an additional switch at an intermediate point would be required - this is something to plan for during the cable routing stage before installation. -
Will this system work with night colour footage or is it monochrome only after dark?
The IPC-T282H-MU cameras use IR illumination, which means night footage is in monochrome (black and white). Full-colour night recording requires either ambient lighting at the camera location or a camera with white-light LEDs or a full-colour sensor. If colour detail after dark is a priority - for identifying clothing colour or vehicle colour in a poorly lit car park, for example - a full-colour or TiOC camera kit stocked by Security Australia would be a more suitable option. -
Can I view the cameras remotely on my phone?
Yes. The NVR supports remote viewing via the Hik-Connect app on iOS and Android after network configuration. You will need to connect the NVR to your router via the ethernet port and either set up port forwarding or use the Hik-Connect cloud relay for remote access. Local network viewing is available immediately once the NVR is connected to the same router as your device.
Cabling Considerations
- Cable Type: Cat5e minimum, Cat6 recommended for future-proofing and cleaner signal over longer runs.
- Max Cable Run: 100 metres per camera from the NVR's PoE port. Plan cable routes before installation to avoid runs that exceed this limit.
- PoE Notes: All 4 cameras are powered directly from the NVR's built-in PoE switch - no separate power injectors or power adaptors required at camera locations.
- Wiring Tips: Run cables before finalising camera mounting positions. For outdoor runs, use an outdoor-rated Cat6 cable or install the cable inside conduit to protect against UV degradation and moisture ingress over time. Leave a 30-40cm service loop at each camera location to allow repositioning without re-pulling cable.
