When detecting heat sources, fire risk, and perimeter intrusions across large open areas is the priority, a standard optical PTZ falls short. The DS-2TD4137T-9W is built for critical infrastructure - think fuel storage facilities, manufacturing plants, substations, logistics yards, and mine sites where both temperature anomalies and physical intrusion carry serious consequences. This bi-spectrum speed dome pairs a 384 x 288 thermal sensor capable of measuring temperatures from -20 degrees C to 550 degrees C with a 4 MP optical channel and 40x optical zoom, giving operators both the thermal sensitivity to catch a heating motor bearing or smouldering material and the optical detail to visually confirm what triggered an alarm. With 200 m IR range and IP66 construction, it is designed for permanent outdoor deployment in environments where standard surveillance cameras simply cannot provide the detection layer required.
Thermal Temperature Measurement
The 384 x 288 thermal sensor measures surface temperatures across a range of -20 degrees C to 550 degrees C with a NETD of 35 mK or better. This means it can distinguish small temperature differentials across machinery, stockpiles, or building envelopes - catching abnormal heat before it becomes a fire event.
40x Optical Zoom with 4 MP Detail
The optical channel delivers 2688 x 1520 resolution with 40x optical zoom, allowing operators to pan to an alarm location and visually verify the situation at distance. Minimum illumination of 0.005 Lux colour and 0.001 Lux monochrome means the optical feed remains usable in near-darkness.
Fire and Smoke Detection Algorithms
Onboard algorithms analyse the thermal feed specifically for fire and smoke signatures, triggering alarms independently of temperature threshold rules. This provides an early-warning detection layer suited to open-air sites where conventional smoke detectors offer no practical coverage.
Perimeter Protection and Smart Tracking
Deep learning-based VCA covers line crossing, intrusion, region entrance, and region exiting. When a target triggers a rule, smart tracking engages and the dome follows the subject automatically, maintaining coverage without requiring an operator to manually control the PTZ during an active event.
200 m IR with IP66 Outdoor Housing
The optical channel's built-in IR extends to 200 m, keeping the visual feed functional on unlit yards and perimeters through the night. IP66 construction protects against dust ingress and direct water jets, making this suitable for year-round outdoor installation in exposed positions.
Patrol Presets and Scene Scanning
Programmable presets, patrol scanning, and pattern scanning allow the dome to cycle through defined positions automatically. For large sites with multiple zones of interest - loading areas, fuel bays, transformer compounds - this removes the need for continuous manual monitoring.
The DS-2TD4137T-9W does two things well that no optical-only PTZ can match: it measures real surface temperatures across an extremely wide range using a thermally sensitive 384 x 288 sensor, and it applies fire and smoke detection algorithms independently of visible light conditions. The 40x optical zoom and 4 MP resolution mean the visual confirmation layer is genuinely capable at distance, and smart tracking reduces the operator workload during active events. H.265+ compression keeps storage and bandwidth requirements manageable for a dual-channel device running continuous recording. Where this camera is not the right fit: it is not a cost-effective solution for standard perimeter surveillance where thermal detection is unnecessary - a conventional PTZ or multi-sensor camera available through Security Australia will deliver better value in those scenarios. The specialist thermal and fire detection functionality justifies the investment only where those capabilities are a genuine operational requirement.
Installer Note: This is a speed dome with a dual-sensor thermal and optical configuration - confirm your NVR or VMS supports dual-channel thermal bi-spectrum devices before specifying. The thermal channel outputs at 1920 x 1080 upscaled from the 384 x 288 sensor, so storage planning should account for 2 independent streams per unit. Temperature measurement accuracy depends on correct emissivity configuration for the target material; commissioning should include calibration against known surface types relevant to the site. Check that your mounting position accounts for the minimum focusing distance of the 40x optical lens, as extreme close-range positions at maximum zoom will not produce a focused image.
Network Note: A speed dome with active thermal processing, smart tracking, and dual video streams will draw more power than a standard PoE camera. Confirm the power specification for this unit and whether your switch or PoE injector meets the requirement - standard IEEE 802.3af (15.4 W) is unlikely to be sufficient. PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at, 30 W) or a separate power supply is typically required for PTZ speed domes with this feature set.
