Quick Buying Summary

Built as an 8MP 4K AcuSense turret camera for outdoor perimeter protection, the DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL combines active deterrence with sharp 4K imaging to stop intruders before they act. The integrated strobe light and audible alarm trigger on confirmed human or vehicle detections, cutting false alerts dramatically. Requires a PoE switch or 12V DC supply - no recorder included.

Why This Model

  • Active deterrence on real threats only: AcuSense classifies humans and vehicles before triggering the strobe and siren, so the alarm fires when it counts - not every time a branch moves.
  • 4K clarity at 60m IR range: The 1/1.8" sensor resolves faces and plates at distance, while 60m IR and 120dB WDR keep footage usable from full sun to pitch dark.
  • Two-way audio built in: A confirmed microphone and speaker let you challenge trespassers or issue warnings remotely without needing a separate audio device.

Product Overview

Model: DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL BLACK

Who This Is For

For property owners and installers who need active deterrence built into the camera itself - not just recording after the fact. The Hikvision AcuSense DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL in black is a TiOC-style turret that combines 8MP 4K resolution with an integrated strobe light, audible alarm, and built-in two-way audio. When the camera detects a human or vehicle target, it can trigger the strobe and siren in real time - warning off intruders before any damage is done. That makes it particularly well-suited to eave and soffit mounting on homes, small warehouses, rental properties, and small business perimeters where the goal is deterrence and early intervention, not just post-event review. The IP67 housing handles Australian outdoor conditions, and the 60 m IR range keeps coverage solid well after dark.

What This Camera Actually Does

Active Strobe and Audible Alarm

When AcuSense confirms a human or vehicle target, the built-in strobe light and siren trigger automatically. This is a live response rather than a passive recording - the camera actively signals to an intruder that they have been detected, before they have time to act.

AcuSense Human and Vehicle Classification

AcuSense filters out animals, moving foliage, and weather-triggered motion, generating alerts only when a person or vehicle is confirmed in frame. That means far fewer unnecessary notifications to owners and monitoring stations overnight.

8MP 4K Resolution

At 3840 x 2160 pixels, this camera captures enough detail to identify faces, licence plate characters, and clothing at practical distances. Higher resolution also means you can digitally zoom into a scene during footage review without losing legibility.

120 dB True WDR

A 120 dB Wide Dynamic Range rating handles scenes where bright sunlight and deep shadow appear in the same frame - entry points with bright sky behind a subject, or carparks with overhead lighting and unlit corners. Both areas render with usable detail simultaneously.

Built-In Two-Way Audio

A built-in microphone and speaker allow live voice interaction through a compatible NVR or app. An owner can speak directly to someone at the gate, driveway, or entry point without needing a separate intercom device at that location.

60 m IR with Smart Supplement Light

The 850 nm IR illuminator reaches up to 60 m and automatically adjusts output depending on subject distance, reducing overexposure on nearby subjects. The 0 lux minimum illumination rating means the camera produces usable black and white footage in complete darkness.

Who Buys This Model

  • Residential installers: Mounting on eaves or soffits at driveways and side gates where the strobe and siren provide a visible on-site deterrent without requiring a separate alarm output device.
  • Small business owners: Covering rear access points, carparks, and loading areas overnight where human/vehicle-only alerts prevent alarm fatigue from animal or wind-triggered events.
  • Rental property managers: Installing a camera that records at 4K and can address visitors or trespassers remotely via two-way audio without attending the property.
  • Strata and body corporate managers: Covering shared entry and bin areas with a camera that communicates actively rather than recording passively, reducing dependence on security patrols for low-level deterrence.

Honest Assessment

The DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL black does several things genuinely well. The combination of AcuSense classification, strobe deterrence, and 8MP resolution in a single turret housing is a strong value proposition for outdoor perimeter points. The 120 dB WDR is one of the higher ratings in this camera class, and the -40°C to 65°C operating range means it handles Australian summer heat and alpine winter conditions without issue. The 60 m IR range is practical for most residential and small commercial approaches. Where this camera will not serve you: it is not a wide-area coverage solution - for large carparks or open yards requiring 180° or 360° visibility, a panoramic or PTZ camera will cover more ground from fewer positions. It also lacks optical zoom, so for long-distance identification beyond the fixed lens range, a motorised zoom or varifocal camera would be more appropriate. Available through Security Australia, this model suits targeted perimeter positions rather than broad-coverage deployments.

Before You Buy

Lens Selection: This model is available in 2.8 mm, 4 mm, and 6 mm fixed lens variants. The 2.8 mm (111° horizontal) suits wide entry coverage at close range such as driveways within 6-8 m. The 4 mm (87° horizontal) is the most common general-purpose choice for paths and side gates. The 6 mm (51° horizontal) suits narrower approaches or situations where you need identification detail at greater distance. Confirm the lens variant matches your mounting position before ordering - the housing and IR range are the same across variants, but field of view differs significantly.

Strobe and Alarm Configuration: The active deterrence features - strobe and audible siren - require configuration through a compatible Hikvision NVR or iVMS-4200 software to define the trigger conditions, schedule, and alarm linkage rules. They do not operate autonomously out of the box without this setup step. Budget time during commissioning to configure AcuSense detection zones and deterrence response rules, particularly if the camera faces a road or shared boundary where unintended triggering needs to be managed carefully.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You need a camera that actively responds to detected intruders - the integrated strobe and audible alarm trigger on AcuSense-confirmed human or vehicle events without needing a separate alarm panel output.
  • Good match if: Your install site has mixed lighting conditions such as a driveway with direct sun in one direction and shade in another - the 120 dB WDR handles high-contrast scenes that cause overexposure or silhouetting on standard cameras.
  • You may need a different model if: Your coverage requirement is a wide open area such as a large carpark or yard - a panoramic or multi-sensor camera will deliver broader coverage from a single mounting point with fewer blind spots.

Real-World Scenarios

Residential Driveway

Mounted under the eave at the top of a driveway, the 2.8 mm variant covers the full width at gate level. AcuSense triggers the strobe and siren when a person crosses the detection zone after hours - audible from inside the house without a phone notification needing to wake anyone.

Rear Warehouse Access

A 4 mm unit installed above a roller door at 3.5 m height monitors the approach. The 60 m IR range covers the full loading apron in complete darkness. AcuSense ignores cats and paper blown by wind, and alerts only when a vehicle or person enters the zone.

Retail Carpark Entry

Positioned at a carpark entry with afternoon sun directly behind entering vehicles, the 120 dB WDR keeps both the vehicle and the surrounding scene exposed correctly - avoiding the blown-out or silhouetted image that trips up lower-rated cameras in the same position.

Remote Property Check-In

A rental property owner uses the two-way audio through a compatible Hikvision app to speak with a tradesperson at the front door without travelling to the site. The built-in microphone and speaker handle the exchange without a dedicated video intercom at that location.

Childcare Outdoor Zone

Mounted under a verandah covering an outdoor play area, the 8MP resolution allows staff to digitally zoom in during footage review to confirm incident detail at a level that a 2MP or 4MP camera cannot match. H.265+ compression keeps storage use manageable across a multi-camera system.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need a single camera that records at 4K, classifies humans and vehicles via AcuSense, and responds actively with a built-in strobe and siren - without wiring in a separate alarm output device.
  • You may need a different model if: Your primary requirement is covering a large open area such as a full carpark or paddock from one mount point - a panoramic or multi-sensor camera will provide broader coverage with fewer gaps.
  • Pairs well with: A Hikvision AcuSense-compatible NVR with alarm linkage capability, which is required to configure the strobe and siren trigger rules and to get the most out of the two-way audio function.

Common Questions

  1. Does the strobe and siren trigger automatically, or does someone need to activate it manually?

It can do both. The strobe and audible alarm can be configured to trigger automatically when AcuSense detects a confirmed human or vehicle target within a defined detection zone and schedule. They can also be triggered manually through a compatible Hikvision NVR or the Hik-Connect app. Automatic deterrence requires the alarm linkage rules to be configured during initial setup - they are not active by default out of the box.
  2. Will this camera work on a standard PoE switch or NVR PoE port?

Yes. The DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL supports IEEE 802.3af PoE, which is the standard PoE specification used on the vast majority of PoE switches and Hikvision NVR PoE ports. A single Cat5e or Cat6 cable carries both power and data, eliminating the need for a separate power supply at the camera location. No PoE+ (802.3at) requirement applies to this model.
  3. How well does AcuSense actually reduce false alarms compared to standard motion detection?

Significantly better in practice. Standard pixel-based motion detection flags any change in the frame - animals, swaying trees, passing car headlights, and rain. AcuSense analyses the shape and motion pattern of a detected object and classifies it as either a human or a vehicle before generating an alert. Events that do not match either classification are logged but do not trigger push notifications or alarm outputs, which substantially reduces overnight false alarms in outdoor positions.
  4. Does this camera record in colour at night, or only in black and white with IR?

In standard night mode, the camera switches to black and white IR imaging using the 850 nm illuminator. It does not have a dedicated white light or full-colour night mode built in - that capability is found on Hikvision ColorVu models. The DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL produces colour footage during daylight and in artificially lit environments at night, but in full darkness it relies on IR illumination and outputs black and white video. The active strobe when triggered does briefly illuminate the scene in visible light.
  5. What NVR or software do I need to use the two-way audio function?

A Hikvision NVR with audio input/output support and AcuSense compatibility is required for full two-way audio and deterrence configuration. The Hik-Connect mobile app also supports two-way audio for remote use. Standard third-party ONVIF NVRs may connect the camera for video recording but will typically not support the audio or active deterrence features - those functions are accessed through Hikvision's own platform. Security Australia stocks compatible Hikvision NVRs if you are building a new system around this camera.
  6. Is the black housing a functional difference from the white version, or purely cosmetic?

Purely cosmetic. The black variant carries identical specifications to the white version - same sensor, same IR range, same AcuSense capability, same IP67 rating, and the same operating temperature range. The colour choice is relevant only for visual integration with the installation environment - black suits darker fascias, timber cladding, or commercial exteriors where a white dome would stand out undesirably.
  7. What is the storage impact of recording at 8MP 4K compared to a 4MP camera?

8MP produces roughly double the data of a 4MP stream at equivalent settings, but H.265+ compression significantly reduces the practical difference. H.265+ uses scene-adaptive encoding that drops the bitrate substantially during periods of low activity - a camera pointing at a quiet driveway overnight will consume far less storage than its peak bitrate suggests. When planning storage for a multi-camera system using this model, calculate based on H.265+ estimated bitrates rather than raw resolution figures, and size your NVR hard drive accordingly.
