Product Overview
Model: DS-9632NI-M8
Who This Is For
Security integrators specifying enterprise and government-grade CCTV infrastructure will find the DS-9632NI-M8 built for exactly that scale. This is a 32-channel, 3U rack-mount NVR from Hikvision's M-Series, designed for deployments where camera count, resolution demand, and storage retention all push hard against what mid-tier recorders can handle. Airports, shopping centres, large commercial campuses, and multi-building industrial facilities regularly place this model where 8K output, 320 Mbps incoming bandwidth, and an 8-bay storage configuration need to coexist under one chassis. It supports ANPR and intelligent analytics across connected cameras, making it a practical backend for projects where post-event search and automated detection are operational requirements rather than optional extras. If a site demands simultaneous high-resolution recording across 32 channels with RAID-protected storage up to 112 TB, this recorder is designed for that brief.
What This NVR Actually Does
32-Channel IP Recording
Accepts up to 32 IP camera inputs simultaneously with 320 Mbps incoming bandwidth. That throughput handles dense deployments running high-resolution streams without frame drops or buffering, critical when every camera feeds into a live operations centre.
8K and Dual 4K Output
Dual HDMI outputs support up to 8K at 30 Hz or dual 4K at 60 Hz independently. Control room operators working across two large monitors can run full-resolution playback and live view simultaneously without any output compromise.
8-Bay Storage with RAID
8 SATA interfaces support drives up to 14 TB each, totalling up to 112 TB raw capacity. RAID configuration options protect that footage against drive failure - essential for sites where losing recorded evidence carries legal or compliance consequences.
Intelligent Analytics Support
Supports camera-side analytics including line crossing, intrusion detection, people counting, and ANPR. The NVR acts as the aggregation point for alerts and metadata, allowing operators to search events by type rather than scrubbing through raw footage.
H.265+ Compression
H.265+ encoding reduces storage consumption compared to H.264 across the same channel count and resolution. On a 32-channel system running continuously, the difference in drive lifespan and storage cost over months of operation is substantial.
128 Remote Connections
Supports up to 128 simultaneous remote connections via Hik-Connect and DDNS. Large organisations with security personnel across multiple sites or shifts can access live and recorded footage concurrently without competing for a single remote session.
Who Buys This Model
- Security Integrators on Enterprise Projects: Specifying a rack-mount backend for 32-camera deployments in commercial buildings, university campuses, or hospitals where 8K output and RAID storage are part of the design brief.
- Airport and Transport Hub Operators: Sites requiring ANPR integration and people counting analytics across dozens of camera points, with footage stored under retention policies that demand 112 TB capacity and RAID protection.
- Large Retail and Shopping Centre Security Teams: Running control rooms with dual large-format displays who need dual HDMI outputs at 4K or 8K alongside 16-channel synchronous playback for incident review.
- Government and Critical Infrastructure Sites: Where TLS-encrypted data transmission, RAID reliability, and centralised management of 32 high-resolution streams are baseline operational requirements rather than optional upgrades.
- IT and AV Managers in Large Office Complexes: Fitting out a 3U rack space with an NVR that handles up to 128 remote connections, allowing security staff, management, and compliance teams to access footage simultaneously.
Honest Assessment
The DS-9632NI-M8 handles the core demands of large-scale IP surveillance well. The 320 Mbps incoming bandwidth, 8K dual-output, 8-bay RAID-capable storage, and support for ANPR and analytics make it a capable backbone for enterprise deployments. H.265+ compression and up to 112 TB raw capacity mean retention planning is workable even at 32 channels running high-resolution streams. The dual Ethernet interfaces add basic network redundancy at the recorder level, and 128 remote connections scale well across large organisations with distributed security teams.
Where this unit has limits: it ships without HDDs, so storage must be planned and purchased separately before the system goes live. For sites needing more than 32 channels or requiring a higher-density storage bay count, a larger NVR in the M-Series range would suit better. ANPR analytics depend on connected cameras being configured and positioned correctly - the NVR supports the function but does not guarantee outcomes on poorly specified camera installs. Available through Security Australia, this unit is best specified with a clear channel map and storage retention calculation before ordering.
Before You Buy
Storage Planning: The DS-9632NI-M8 ships with no HDDs installed. With 8 SATA bays supporting up to 14 TB per drive, plan your drive selection based on channel count, resolution, frame rate, and required retention period before installation. Running 32 channels at 8 MP with H.265+ will consume storage at a very different rate than 32 channels at 1080p - calculate this before purchase to avoid undersizing drives at commissioning.
Rack and Power Requirements: This is a 3U chassis drawing 100-240 VAC. Confirm your rack has 3U of clearance and that the power circuit is appropriately rated before fitting drives. With 8 HDDs installed, power draw increases meaningfully - do not assume a basic rack PDU will be sufficient without checking load calculations.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You are installing 32 IP cameras across a large commercial site and need a single recorder with 8K output, RAID-backed storage up to 112 TB, and support for ANPR and analytics aggregation.
- Good match if: Your control room runs dual large-format monitors and operators need simultaneous 8K or dual 4K output with 16-channel synchronous playback for incident review.
- You may need a different model if: Your camera count exceeds 32 channels or your site requires more than 8 drive bays - a higher-channel NVR with greater storage bay density would be the right next step at securityaustralia.com.au.

Common Questions
-
Does this NVR come with hard drives included?
No. The DS-9632NI-M8 ships with no HDDs installed. It has 8 SATA bays supporting drives up to 14 TB each, giving a maximum raw capacity of 112 TB. You will need to purchase surveillance-rated hard drives separately and factor in your channel count, resolution, frame rate, and retention period when sizing them. -
Will this NVR work with ANPR cameras for vehicle plate capture?
Yes, with correctly specified cameras. The DS-9632NI-M8 supports ANPR functionality when used with compatible Hikvision ANPR cameras. The NVR aggregates plate read data and alerts from those cameras. ANPR accuracy depends entirely on camera placement, approach speed, lighting, and lens selection - the NVR supports the function but is not the limiting factor in ANPR performance. -
What RAID modes does the DS-9632NI-M8 support?
RAID configuration is supported across the 8-bay storage array. The specific RAID levels available (such as RAID 0, 1, 5, or 6) should be confirmed in the Hikvision firmware documentation for this unit, as available modes depend on drive count and NVR firmware version. RAID is strongly recommended for any site with footage retention compliance obligations, as it protects recorded data against a single drive failure without losing the entire archive. -
Can both HDMI outputs run at 4K simultaneously?
Yes. The DS-9632NI-M8 supports dual 4K output at 60 Hz across both HDMI ports simultaneously, or a single HDMI at 8K at 30 Hz. This allows control room setups to run independent full-resolution feeds to 2 separate monitors without any downgrade to either output. -
How many cameras can this NVR decode at full resolution at once?
Decoding capacity is up to 2 channels at 32 MP or 10 channels at 8 MP simultaneously. For 1080p streams, the 32-channel recording capacity applies, but high-resolution live decoding for playback or monitoring is the constrained resource. In practice this means operators reviewing 32 MP camera footage simultaneously should plan around that 2-channel ceiling rather than assuming full-resolution decoding across all channels at once. -
Does the DS-9632NI-M8 support remote access for multiple users at the same time?
Yes. The unit supports up to 128 simultaneous remote connections via Hik-Connect and DDNS. This suits large organisations where security staff, operations managers, and compliance teams all need independent access to live or recorded footage without contention. Both Ethernet interfaces operate at up to 1000 Mbps to support that concurrent load. The DS-9632NI-M8 is part of the Security Australia range and is stocked for immediate dispatch. -
Does this NVR require PoE+ to power connected cameras?
No. The DS-9632NI-M8 is a pure NVR with no built-in PoE switch - it does not power cameras directly. IP cameras must be powered via a separate PoE switch or injector on the network. Camera power requirements (standard 802.3af PoE, 802.3at PoE+, or 802.3bt PoE++) are determined by the individual cameras chosen, not by this recorder. Factor in a managed PoE switch with sufficient budget wattage when planning the full system. -
What happens to recorded footage if a single hard drive fails while RAID is active?
With a RAID configuration that includes parity or mirroring (such as RAID 5 or RAID 6), the system continues recording and retains existing footage even after a single drive fails. The NVR will flag the fault and the failed drive can be replaced without loss of data. Without RAID enabled, a single drive failure risks loss of any footage stored on that drive. For compliance-driven installations, RAID is not optional - it is a baseline requirement.
