Product Overview

Model: DS-2XS2T41G1-ID/4G

Who This Is For

For installers and property owners who need surveillance coverage at sites where mains power and wired internet simply do not exist, the Hikvision DS-2XS2T41G1-ID/4G is built specifically around that constraint. Remote rural properties, construction sites, temporary fencing lines, water pump stations, and off-grid farm sheds are exactly the environments this camera targets. The integrated solar panel and built-in battery eliminate trenching for power, while the 4G LTE modem transmits footage and alerts directly over the mobile network - no NVR, no router, no fixed infrastructure required on site. At 4MP resolution with a 4mm fixed lens covering a wide field of view, and 30m IR for night coverage, this is a self-contained outdoor unit that goes where conventional networked cameras cannot. If your site has 4G mobile signal and a few hours of daily sunlight, this camera can operate indefinitely with no ongoing connection to the grid.

What This Camera Actually Does

Solar and Battery Power

The integrated solar panel charges an internal battery during daylight, allowing the camera to run through the night and through overcast periods. No external power supply, cabling, or electrician is required - the camera is genuinely self-sufficient once mounted in a position with adequate sun exposure.

4G LTE Connectivity

Supporting LTE-TDD, LTE-FDD, and WCDMA, the camera transmits over Australia's 4G mobile network. Footage, alerts, and live view reach your phone or monitoring software without any on-site router, NVR, or network infrastructure - useful anywhere mobile coverage exists.

4MP Wide-Area Imaging

At 2560 x 1440 resolution through a 4mm fixed lens, the camera captures a broad scene with enough detail to distinguish individuals and vehicle types. The 120 dB wide dynamic range helps retain usable detail in high-contrast outdoor lighting such as bright sun against shadowed areas.

30m Infrared Night Vision

Built-in IR illumination extends coverage to 30m in complete darkness. With a minimum illumination of 0 Lux when IR is active, the camera continues recording usable footage through the night without any external lighting - relevant for remote sites where no ambient lighting exists.

Human and Vehicle Detection

Onboard algorithms classify moving objects as human or vehicle before triggering an alert, reducing spurious notifications from animals, blowing debris, or lighting changes. On a battery-powered unit this also matters for power management - fewer unnecessary alert events mean less processing and less battery draw.

Who Buys This Model

  • Rural and agricultural property owners: Monitoring remote gates, water tanks, sheds, or machinery yards where grid power and fixed internet are not available - 4G and solar remove both constraints entirely.
  • Construction site managers: Securing temporary sites with no fixed infrastructure, where the camera can be repositioned as the site progresses and relies only on mobile coverage and sunlight to operate.
  • Local councils and utilities: Covering pump stations, reserve entrances, or unmanned infrastructure sites where cable runs are impractical and vandalism or unauthorised access is a known issue.
  • Event and temporary installation operators: Deploying cameras at outdoor event perimeters, pop-up locations, or leased properties without committing to permanent cabling - solar and 4G make setup and pack-down fast.

Honest Assessment

The DS-2XS2T41G1-ID/4G genuinely solves a specific problem that conventional IP cameras cannot: permanent surveillance at off-grid locations. The combination of solar charging, internal battery, and 4G LTE in a single IP67-rated housing is practical and well-executed. Human and vehicle detection reduces unnecessary alerts, which also extends battery life - an important design consideration for a camera that cannot be plugged in. The 4MP sensor with 120 dB WDR and 30m IR handles the full range of Australian outdoor lighting conditions adequately for general monitoring purposes. What this camera will not do is deliver the continuous high-frame-rate recording or deep storage that a wired NVR system provides - battery and data capacity place real constraints on recording behaviour. It also does not support two-way audio, as no built-in microphone is present. Available through Security Australia, this unit suits monitoring applications where you need to know when something happens rather than maintain a full archive. For fixed installations with mains power available, a conventional wired IP camera with local NVR storage will typically deliver more consistent performance.

Before You Buy

4G SIM Card: The camera requires a separate 4G SIM card to transmit footage and alerts - this is not included. Before purchasing, confirm your site has adequate 4G signal strength at the intended mounting location. Low signal areas will affect both reliability and battery consumption, as the modem draws more power attempting to maintain a weak connection.

Solar Panel Orientation: Mount the camera so the integrated solar panel faces north (in Australia) with no shade from trees, eaves, or structures during peak sun hours. Battery performance and overnight recording capability are directly tied to daily charge input. Heavily shaded sites or locations with extended overcast periods may require supplemental charging or adjusted recording schedules.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: Your site has no mains power or fixed internet access and you need a camera that operates independently - the solar panel, internal battery, and 4G modem cover both requirements without any external infrastructure.
  • Good match if: You are monitoring a wide outdoor area at day and night - the 4MP sensor with 120 dB WDR handles high-contrast daylight conditions while the 30m IR provides usable coverage in complete darkness.
  • You may need a different model if: You require continuous high-resolution recording with local NVR storage and no dependency on mobile data usage - a wired PoE IP camera system with a dedicated NVR is more suitable for that use case and worth exploring on securityaustralia.com.au.

Real-World Scenarios

Remote Farm Gate

A property boundary gate several kilometres from the homestead has no power or internet. The solar panel and 4G modem allow the camera to push human and vehicle detection alerts directly to the owner's phone when the gate area is accessed, day or night.

Active Construction Site

Before site services are connected, the camera can be bracket-mounted on temporary hoarding or a scaffold pole. It monitors after-hours access without requiring a generator or temporary internet connection, and can be relocated as the site layout changes.

Rural Water Pump Station

Unmanned infrastructure in open country is vulnerable to theft and tampering. Mounted to face the approach and pump housing, the 4MP camera with 30m IR captures after-dark activity at IP67 protection, transmitting alerts over 4G to operations staff without any on-site network equipment.

Outdoor Event Perimeter

Short-term events on leased sites cannot justify permanent infrastructure. A solar-powered 4G camera deployed on temporary poles or posts provides human detection coverage for the event duration, then packs away cleanly - no cable trenching, no network drops, no electrician required.

National Park or Reserve Entry

Councils and land managers monitoring unauthorised vehicle access at reserve entrances face the same infrastructure gap as rural properties. The IP67 rating handles Australian weather exposure, the 4mm lens covers a typical unsealed road approach, and 4G connectivity means no on-site visit is needed to retrieve footage.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: Your site has no mains power and no fixed internet - the combination of solar charging, internal battery, and 4G LTE modem removes both infrastructure requirements in a single unit rated to IP67.
  • You may need a different model if: Continuous recording with extended local storage is a priority - a wired PoE IP camera paired with a dedicated NVR is better suited to that requirement and is worth exploring across the range on securityaustralia.com.au.
  • Pairs well with: A cloud video management platform or mobile NVR application compatible with Hikvision RTSP streams for remote viewing, playback, and alert management over 4G.

Common Questions

  1. Does this camera work without any mains power or internet connection on site?

Yes. The DS-2XS2T41G1-ID/4G is self-contained - the integrated solar panel charges the internal battery during daylight, and all communication happens over 4G LTE using a SIM card. No external power supply, router, or NVR is needed at the camera location. You do need a 4G SIM from your preferred Australian carrier, and the site needs adequate mobile signal.
  2. Will this camera work through the night without direct sunlight?

Yes, within limits. The internal battery stores charge accumulated during the day and powers the camera overnight. The 30m IR illuminator operates on battery power in complete darkness, providing usable monochrome footage up to 30m. How long the battery sustains overnight operation depends on available daily solar charge, motion event frequency, and whether continuous recording or event-triggered recording is configured.
  3. Does this camera support two-way audio?

No. The DS-2XS2T41G1-ID/4G does not include a built-in microphone. Two-way audio is not a supported feature on this model. If on-site audio communication is a requirement, a different camera model with confirmed built-in microphone and speaker should be selected.
  4. What does the 120 dB wide dynamic range actually mean for outdoor installation?

It means the camera can produce usable detail in both the bright and dark areas of the same frame simultaneously. In practice, this matters at site entrances where a vehicle approaching from bright sunlight would otherwise create an overexposed image that obscures the number plate or driver. At 120 dB WDR, the sensor compresses that contrast range into a viewable image.
  5. How does the human and vehicle detection reduce false alerts on this model?

The onboard algorithm classifies detected motion as human, vehicle, or neither before triggering a notification. This means movement from animals, blowing vegetation, or lighting changes that would trigger standard motion detection are filtered out at the camera level before any alert is sent over 4G. On a battery-powered unit this is particularly useful - each unnecessary alert event consumes processing time and battery capacity, so reducing false classifications extends operating time between low-battery conditions.
  6. Is the DS-2XS2T41G1-ID/4G suitable for areas with heavy rainfall or dust?

Yes. The IP67 environmental rating confirms the housing is fully dust-tight and can withstand temporary immersion in water up to 1m depth. In practical terms, this means direct rain, dust storms, and hosing down the unit for cleaning will not compromise the internals. It is rated for permanent outdoor exposure in Australian conditions. The Security Australia team can advise on appropriate mounting orientation to avoid solar panel occlusion from debris in high-dust environments.
