Dahua TIOC Advanced 3.0 IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 8MP AI Active Deterrence Full color Starlight IP Turret Camera
Built as an 8MP AI active deterrence turret for homes and small businesses wanting visible, proactive protection, the IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 combines full-colour Starlight night vision with Dahua's TiOC 3.0 technology to detect, warn, and deter intruders in real time. It features a built-in speaker and microphone for two-way audio, and requires a PoE switch or PoE-capable NVR to power the camera.
Why This Model
- Active deterrence at detection: The TiOC 3.0 system triggers a red-and-blue strobe light and audible alarm the moment AI detects a person or vehicle, stopping incidents before they escalate rather than just recording them.
- Full-colour night footage: Starlight full-colour imaging maintains vivid, usable colour detail in very low light conditions, giving you identifiable footage at night without relying on infrared greyscale.
- Two-way audio built in: The onboard microphone and speaker allow real-time voice interaction with anyone on-site, adding a remote challenge capability directly from the camera itself.

Product Overview
Model: DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2
Who This Is For
For property owners and installers who need a camera that does more than record - one that actively intervenes when something is detected. The Dahua TiOC Advanced 3.0 IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 combines an 8MP full-colour sensor, built-in strobe light, and audible siren into a compact turret body designed for eave, soffit, and wall mounting. It suits residential driveways, small commercial car parks, retail shopfronts, and light industrial perimeters where the goal is deterrence before an incident develops rather than footage review after the fact. The AI classification engine distinguishes people and vehicles from background motion, meaning the strobe and siren only trigger on genuine threats - not passing headlights or wind-blown foliage. This model is the right starting point when visible, active deterrence is the brief and a fixed turret footprint is preferred over a bullet or PTZ housing.
What This NVR Actually Does
Active Deterrence - Strobe and Siren
When a person or vehicle is classified as a genuine intrusion event, the camera fires a visible white strobe and sounds an audible alarm. This happens in real time, before anyone reaches a door or asset - not after the fact when reviewing recordings.
Full-Colour Starlight in Near-Total Darkness
The Starlight sensor retains full-colour output at very low ambient light levels using the built-in warm-light illuminator. Footage captures clothing colour, vehicle colour, and skin tone - details that disappear entirely when a camera switches to black-and-white night mode.
AI Person and Vehicle Classification
The WizSense SMD engine on-board separates human and vehicle targets from irrelevant background movement. Notification filtering at the camera level means far fewer false alerts reaching the app or NVR, and the active deterrence triggers only when the AI confirms a relevant target.
8MP Resolution for Identification Detail
At 8 megapixels, the image contains enough pixel density to zoom into a recorded scene and still identify facial features, number plates at close range, and distinguishing clothing details - all from a single fixed camera without a secondary close-up unit.
Two-Way Audio
With both a built-in microphone and built-in speaker, an operator or homeowner can speak directly to anyone in the camera's view via the DMSS app or a connected NVR. This allows verbal warnings before the situation escalates, without needing a separate intercom device.
IP67 and IK10 Rated Housing
The turret body is fully weatherproofed to IP67 and impact-rated to IK10, making it suitable for exposed outdoor positions including eaves in coastal areas and car park columns where cameras are accessible to tampering. The compact profile also limits vandal leverage points.
Who Buys This Model
- Residential installers: Clients wanting driveway and entry coverage that actively responds to late-night intrusion rather than simply recording it - the strobe and siren function without requiring monitoring centre involvement.
- Small retail and hospitality operators: Shopfront and car park coverage where a deterrent response to after-hours trespass reduces the likelihood of property damage, and full-colour night footage supports police reports when incidents do occur.
- Light industrial and trade premises: Yard and equipment storage areas where tool or material theft is a recurring issue and a camera that triggers an audible alarm on detection creates a stronger deterrent than a passive recording unit.
- Self-managed property owners: Landlords and holiday property owners who monitor remotely via DMSS and want two-way audio to address visitors or suspected intruders without being physically present.
- Security integrators upgrading existing systems: Installers replacing standard turret cameras on Dahua NVR systems who want active deterrence capability without changing the camera footprint, wiring, or PoE infrastructure already in place.
Honest Assessment
The IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 delivers a genuinely useful combination of capabilities in a standard turret form factor - 8MP full-colour night vision, on-board AI classification, and active deterrence in a housing that installs the same way as a basic IP camera. The TiOC 3.0 platform's AI-driven filtering means the strobe and siren respond to confirmed person or vehicle detections rather than any motion event, which keeps false activations low in mixed environments like driveways near roads or yards with animals. Full-colour Starlight output at night gives footage real investigative value, and two-way audio extends its usefulness to remote verbal intervention. Where this camera has limits: the fixed lens is not suitable for long-approach monitoring beyond roughly 20-30 metres where face-level detail is needed - a varifocal or PTZ model from the Security Australia range would be more appropriate in that scenario. It is also not designed for high-speed vehicle ANPR applications where a dedicated ANPR camera is required.
Before You Buy
Active Deterrence Trigger Setup: The strobe and siren on this camera are triggered by AI detection rules configured in the camera's web interface or via a compatible Dahua NVR - they do not fire automatically out of the box on every motion event. Plan time during commissioning to configure the intrusion zone, AI target class (person, vehicle, or both), and schedule (for example, after-hours only) so the deterrence behaviour matches the site requirement and does not create nuisance activations during business hours.
PoE Budget: This TiOC model draws more power than a standard IP camera due to the strobe light and siren. Confirm your PoE switch or NVR port supports IEEE 802.3at (PoE+, up to 30W) rather than standard 802.3af (15.4W) to avoid power instability when the active deterrence components are triggered simultaneously with the white-light illuminator.
Quick Fit Check
- Good match if: You need a compact outdoor turret that actively deters intruders with a strobe and siren triggered by confirmed AI person or vehicle detection - without adding separate deterrence hardware.
- Good match if: The installation requires full-colour night footage for identification quality and the site has eave, soffit, or wall mounting positions within 20-30 metres of the target zone.
- You may need a different model if: The site requires long-distance coverage beyond 30 metres, optical zoom to track across a wide area, or dedicated ANPR number plate capture - a PTZ or ANPR-specific camera type would be a better fit for those requirements.

Real-World Scenarios
How It Compares
- Choose this if: You want active deterrence (strobe plus siren), full-colour night vision, and AI classification in a compact outdoor turret that installs on standard PoE infrastructure - no separate deterrence hardware required.
- You may need a different model if: The installation requires coverage beyond 30 metres, pan and tilt capability to follow targets across a wide area, or high-accuracy number plate capture on moving vehicles - a PTZ or dedicated ANPR camera type would better serve those requirements.
- Pairs well with: A compatible Dahua WizSense NVR with AI event management support, enabling centralised scheduling of deterrence rules, event search by person or vehicle, and local storage without cloud dependency.
Common Questions
-
Does the strobe and siren activate on every motion event, including passing cars on the street?
No. The active deterrence on this camera is linked to the AI classification engine, not raw motion detection. The siren and strobe only trigger when the WizSense SMD engine confirms a person or vehicle within the configured detection zone. Passing traffic behind a fence line, wind-blown trees, and lighting changes do not trigger the deterrence output - this is the core difference between TiOC and a basic motion-triggered alarm camera. -
Will this camera work on a standard PoE switch, or does it need PoE+?
PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) is strongly recommended. Standard 802.3af provides up to 15.4W, which may be marginal when the white-light illuminator, strobe, and siren are active simultaneously. IEEE 802.3at PoE+ provides up to 30W per port, ensuring stable operation under peak load. Check your NVR's PoE port spec or standalone switch before ordering - many budget 8-port PoE switches only support 802.3af on some ports. -
Does this camera record in colour at night without any external lighting?
Yes. The Starlight sensor combined with the built-in warm white-light illuminator produces full-colour footage at night without any external light source. The white-light illuminator activates in low-light conditions to maintain colour output. This is different from standard IR cameras, which switch to black-and-white once ambient light drops below the IR threshold. Colour is retained in the recorded footage - not just in live view. -
Can the siren volume and strobe duration be adjusted, or are they fixed?
Yes. The siren and strobe parameters - including activation duration and the schedule during which they are enabled - are configurable through the camera's web interface or a compatible Dahua NVR. This allows deterrence to run on a schedule (for example, after business hours only) and prevents unwanted activations during working hours when legitimate foot traffic is expected. Consult the camera's configuration guide for the full range of adjustable parameters. -
What is the TiOC strobe trigger logic - does the AI classification need to reach a confidence threshold before the deterrence fires?
Yes. The TiOC 3.0 platform uses AI target confirmation rather than a simple pixel-change threshold. The SMD 4.0 engine evaluates detected objects against person and vehicle shape models before classifying a target as a genuine detection. Only confirmed classifications - above the engine's internal confidence threshold - trigger the deterrence output. This reduces false activations caused by animals, shadows, or environmental movement. The detection sensitivity can be tuned in the camera's event configuration, with higher sensitivity increasing responsiveness at the cost of a slightly elevated false-positive rate in complex scenes. -
Does this camera work as a standalone unit, or does it require a Dahua NVR?
It works as a standalone unit. The camera streams directly to the DMSS app over a local network or via P2P cloud connection, supports push notifications, and can operate two-way audio and receive deterrence trigger alerts without an NVR in the loop. For multi-camera sites with local recording, search-by-AI-event, and centralised deterrence scheduling, a compatible Dahua WizSense NVR adds significant value. Both deployment models are supported without any firmware change to the camera itself. -
Is this model available with a 3.6mm lens option, or is the ANZ version fixed at 2.8mm?
The ANZ-designated model sold through Security Australia is the 2.8mm fixed-lens variant. A 2.8mm lens provides a wider field of view suited to entry points, driveways, and open areas monitored at close to mid-range. If a narrower field of view with greater reach is required - for example, covering a longer driveway or a corridor approach - confirm lens availability with the team before ordering, as lens options vary across regional SKU designations.
