Product Overview

Model: DHI-NVR5432-16P-4KS2E

Who This Is For

For integrators and security managers who need a high-channel-count recorder capable of handling demanding mixed-resolution deployments, the Dahua DHI-NVR5432-16P-4KS2E is a 32-channel Pro NVR built around a 1.5U rack form factor with 16 built-in PoE ports. It suits commercial fit-outs, multi-tenancy buildings, warehouses, and campus environments where a significant number of IP cameras - including high-resolution 12MP or 4K models - need to feed into a single, centralised recorder. The 16 PoE ports eliminate much of the switch-and-patch complexity on smaller wings of a site, while the remaining 16 channels accept cameras connected through external network infrastructure. Sites already running coaxial cable can leverage EoC support on ports 1 through 8, and long cable runs up to 800 metres are handled via ePoE on those same ports - a practical advantage on large properties where pulling fresh Cat cable is not feasible.

What This NVR Actually Does

32-Channel IP Recording up to 12MP

The NVR accepts up to 32 IP cameras at resolutions from 720P through to 12MP. Whether your deployment uses a mix of entry-level and high-resolution cameras, each channel records at its native resolution without the NVR downsampling to a common output. Maximum incoming bandwidth is 320 Mbps across all channels.

16 Built-in PoE Ports with ePoE and EoC

All 16 PoE ports support IEEE 802.3af/at. Ports 1 through 8 also support ePoE for cable runs up to 800 metres and EoC for connecting IP cameras over existing coaxial infrastructure - directly from the NVR without additional converters in that zone.

Smart H.265+ Compression

Smart H.265+ uses scene-adaptive encoding, dynamic GOP, and intelligent noise reduction to reduce bitrate and storage consumption by up to 70% compared to standard H.265. On a 32-channel system running high-resolution cameras, this translates directly into meaningfully longer retention periods on the same HDD capacity.

Dual HDMI and Dual VGA Display Outputs

Two HDMI and two VGA outputs operate simultaneously. HDMI 1 supports 4K (3840x2160) for a primary monitoring wall, while the second HDMI and both VGA outputs run at up to 1080P. This allows a dedicated review station and a secondary guard monitor to run independently without additional video distribution hardware.

IVS Analytics, ANPR and POS Integration

On-board Intelligent Video System analytics support motion detection zones (22x18 grid), intrusion detection, and tampering alarms. When paired with a compatible Dahua ITC camera, the NVR adds ANPR with black/white list management. A POS integration option links transaction data to timestamped footage for retail loss-prevention investigations.

ANR and Flexible Storage Architecture

Automatic Network Replenishment stores footage to a camera's onboard SD card during a network outage, then retrieves and reconciles that footage once connectivity is restored - ensuring no recording gaps. Locally, 4 SATA III bays support up to 10TB each, plus 1 eSATA port for external expansion. RAID configurations are supported for data redundancy.

Who Buys This Model

  • Security integrators fitting out commercial buildings: The 32-channel capacity with 16 onboard PoE ports and 320 Mbps incoming bandwidth handles large mixed-resolution camera deployments in a single 1.5U rack unit, reducing the number of separate PoE switches needed for smaller camera clusters.
  • Warehouse and logistics site managers: The ePoE support on ports 1 to 8 covers long cable runs to perimeter cameras up to 800 metres from the NVR, removing the need for network repeaters across large yard or loading dock environments.
  • Retail chains and multi-outlet operators: The optional POS integration links register transaction data to recorded footage on a per-channel basis, giving loss prevention teams a time-indexed search tool tied directly to transaction events.
  • Installers upgrading analogue sites to IP: EoC support on the first 8 PoE ports allows existing coaxial cable runs to carry IP camera signals without complete recabling - useful for heritage buildings or sites where cable replacement is cost-prohibitive.
  • Sites requiring gated vehicle access control: When paired with a compatible Dahua ITC camera, the NVR's ANPR feature manages vehicle black/white lists and allows footage search by recognised plate number - suited to car parks, industrial gates, and residential estates.

Honest Assessment

The DHI-NVR5432-16P-4KS2E handles demanding multi-channel workloads well. The combination of 32 channels, 320 Mbps bandwidth, Smart H.265+ compression, and up to 40TB of local SATA storage (4 x 10TB HDDs) gives integrators real headroom for high-resolution camera networks. The ePoE and EoC capability on ports 1 to 8 genuinely extends the NVR's usefulness on sites with difficult cable infrastructure. Dual 4K-capable display outputs and simultaneous quad-screen output cover most control room configurations without additional hardware. Where this unit will not serve is in applications demanding a higher channel count beyond 32 IP cameras - a 64-channel platform would be the appropriate next step. The onboard PoE budget (150W total, 25.5W max per port) also requires careful planning when using high-wattage cameras or PTZ units across all 16 ports simultaneously. Available through Security Australia, this NVR suits mid-to-large commercial deployments where channel density, storage depth, and cabling flexibility all factor into the specification.

Before You Buy

PoE Power Budget: The total PoE output across all 16 ports is rated at 150W with an 80% utilisation cap for thermal protection, giving a practical ceiling of around 120W under continuous load. If your camera mix includes PTZ cameras drawing up to 25.5W each, map out your per-port power draw before finalising the camera schedule. Cameras exceeding the per-port maximum of 25.5W will require external PoE+ injectors or a separate managed switch - plan this before cabling.

HDD Planning: The 4 SATA III bays ship without hard drives. At 32 channels with a mix of 4MP and 8MP cameras recording Smart H.265+ continuously, retention targets of 30 days or more typically require 3 or 4 drives at 8TB to 10TB capacity. Use a NVR storage calculator based on your actual camera resolutions and frame rates rather than estimating from channel count alone. Confirm your HDD models are on the Dahua compatibility list before purchasing drives.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You are deploying 17 to 32 IP cameras across a commercial or industrial site and want to consolidate up to 16 of them directly onto the NVR's onboard PoE ports without a separate PoE switch for that group.
  • Good match if: Your site has long cable runs or existing coaxial infrastructure - ePoE on ports 1 to 8 supports runs up to 800 metres, and EoC allows IP cameras to operate over legacy coax from the same ports.
  • You may need a different model if: Your camera count exceeds 32 channels - a 64-channel NVR platform would be the appropriate product type to review on securityaustralia.com.au.

Real-World Scenarios

Industrial Warehouse with Remote Perimeter

A distribution centre needs cameras at gatehouse, yard, and dock positions spread across 600 metres. Ports 1 to 8 on the NVR handle the distant runs via ePoE, eliminating the need for network switches or repeaters at those remote positions.

Heritage Building Analogue-to-IP Upgrade

An older commercial building has existing RG59 coaxial runs throughout. EoC support on ports 1 to 8 allows IP cameras to be connected over the legacy coax directly to the NVR, avoiding a full recabling project while achieving IP video quality.

Multi-Screen Control Room

A security control room requires a primary 4K video wall alongside a secondary operator monitor and a supervisor review station. The dual HDMI and dual VGA outputs run simultaneously, supporting up to 4 independent displays from a single NVR.

Retail Loss Prevention with POS Tie-In

A retail chain links each register's transaction data to the corresponding camera channel via the optional POS integration. Loss prevention staff can search for specific transaction values or times and immediately pull the relevant footage without manually scrubbing through recordings.

Gated Industrial or Residential Estate

When a compatible Dahua ITC ANPR camera is installed at the entry and exit, the NVR manages vehicle black/white lists and enables plate-based footage search - useful for estates, car parks, or industrial sites requiring vehicle access records.

Network Outage Continuity via ANR

On a site where network interruptions are a known risk, cameras with SD cards use ANR to record locally during outages. When the link to the NVR is restored, footage is automatically retrieved and reconciled into the continuous recording timeline with no manual intervention.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need a single rack-mount NVR to handle 17 to 32 IP cameras with onboard PoE, ePoE for long cable runs, and the option to use legacy coaxial cabling on up to 8 channels via EoC - all in a 1.5U form factor.
  • You may need a different model if: Your camera count is heading beyond 32 channels now or in the near future - a 64-channel NVR platform would be the appropriate product type to specify, available on securityaustralia.com.au.
  • Pairs well with: High-resolution Dahua IP cameras (4MP to 12MP range), Dahua ITC ANPR cameras for vehicle access channels, and RAID-rated enterprise SATA HDDs for the storage bays.

Common Questions

  1. Does the DHI-NVR5432-16P-4KS2E come with hard drives included?

No. The NVR ships without hard drives. The unit has 4 SATA III bays, each supporting up to 10TB, giving a maximum local storage capacity of 40TB when fully populated. Drive selection should be based on your recording resolution, channel count, frame rate, and retention target. Using a storage calculator tied to your actual camera specs will produce a more accurate drive count than estimating from channel count alone.
  2. Will this NVR work with non-Dahua IP cameras?

Yes, with conditions. The NVR supports ONVIF 2.4, which provides baseline compatibility with cameras from AXIS, Pelco, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, and a number of other brands. However, Dahua-specific features such as IVS analytics, ANR, ANPR, and Smart H.265+ encoding are only available when using compatible Dahua IP cameras. Third-party cameras operating via ONVIF will record and display but will not pass AI or analytics metadata to the NVR.
  3. How does ePoE work on this NVR and what cable distances does it actually support?

ePoE extends both power and network data over a single Cat cable run up to 800 metres, compared to the standard 100-metre PoE limit. This function is active on ports 1 to 8 of the NVR. At extended distances, the effective data speed is reduced - typically to 10 Mbps at the longer end of the run - so each camera on an ePoE port should be specified with a bitrate that stays comfortably within that bandwidth. For 4K cameras at full bitrate, standard 100-metre runs via the remaining PoE ports or an external switch are a better fit.
  4. Can all 16 PoE ports run simultaneously at full power?

Not quite. The total PoE output is rated at 150W with an 80% utilisation ceiling built in for thermal protection, giving a working budget of approximately 120W across all 16 ports. The maximum per-port draw is 25.5W. If you are deploying a mix of standard IP cameras drawing 7W to 12W each, the budget accommodates a full 16-camera load comfortably. High-draw PTZ cameras or multi-sensor units will consume a larger share of the budget and reduce how many ports can be fully loaded simultaneously.
  5. Does this NVR support RAID and what protection does it actually provide?

Yes. The DHI-NVR5432-16P-4KS2E supports RAID configurations across its 4 SATA bays. RAID provides data redundancy, meaning a single drive failure does not result in loss of recorded footage - the array reconstructs data from the remaining drives. RAID is not a substitute for off-site or secondary backup; it protects against drive failure only. The NVR also supports backup to USB devices, network storage, and eSATA devices for a more complete data protection strategy.
  6. How does ANR differ from standard recording and when does it actually matter?

ANR (Automatic Network Replenishment) is a gap-filling mechanism, not a primary recording method. During normal operation, cameras record directly to the NVR. If the network connection between a camera and the NVR drops, cameras equipped with an SD card continue recording locally to that card. When the network connection is re-established, the NVR automatically retrieves the footage from the SD card and inserts it into the correct position in the recording timeline. Without ANR, a network outage creates a permanent gap in the recorded footage. This is particularly relevant for cameras on long ePoE runs or on network segments with less reliable switching infrastructure.
  7. Will this NVR decode and display all 32 channels simultaneously at full resolution?

No - not all 32 channels at full resolution at once. The confirmed decoding capability is 4 channels at 8MP (30fps) or 16 channels at 1080P (30fps) simultaneously on the live display. In a 32-channel live view layout, the NVR will decode at a reduced rate or resolution for channels beyond the decoding ceiling. This is typical of NVRs in this class and does not affect recording quality - all 32 channels record at their full native resolution and bitrate regardless of the live display decoding limitation. For investigation and playback, the NVR supports synchronised playback of up to 16 channels simultaneously.
  8. Does the ANPR function work with any camera, or does it require a specific Dahua model?

It requires a specific Dahua ITC (Intelligent Traffic Camera) model. The ANPR feature in the NVR is designed to receive structured plate recognition data from a compatible Dahua ITC camera - it does not perform optical character recognition on standard IP camera footage. When a compatible ITC camera is connected, the NVR enables black/white list management, allows import and export of plate lists, and provides footage search by recognised plate number. If ANPR is a core requirement of your installation, confirm camera model compatibility with the NVR before specifying the system.
