Product Overview

Model: DH-IPC-HFW2831TP-AS-0360B-S2

Who This Is For

Property managers specifying outdoor IP cameras for car parks, driveways, loading areas, and building perimeters will find the Dahua DH-IPC-HFW2831TP-AS-0360B-S2 a straightforward, high-resolution option. This mini bullet delivers 8MP imaging at a fixed 3.6mm angle - wide enough to take in a full driveway or gate entry in a single shot, with 80m IR range handling conditions where external lighting is minimal or absent. The IP67 rating covers Australian outdoor conditions, and built-in audio input and output means two-way communication is available without additional hardware. IVS tripwire and intrusion detection add a layer of automated alerting beyond basic motion events, making this suited to sites that need the camera to do more than simply record. It is a practical fit for small commercial premises, residential estates, warehouses, and school perimeters where a fixed-angle bullet is the right form factor.

What This Camera Actually Does

8MP Imaging at 3.6mm

The 1/2.7" CMOS sensor outputs up to 3840x2160 at 15fps or 2688x1520 at 25/30fps. At 8MP, there is enough pixel density to crop into a recorded frame and still read a number plate or identify a face at the gate entry or driveway approach.

80m IR Night Coverage

Built-in IR LEDs illuminate to 80 metres in complete darkness. That range covers most driveways, car parks, and external corridors without needing supplementary lighting, and the IR switches automatically via the built-in ICR filter.

IVS Tripwire and Intrusion Detection

Intelligent Video Surveillance rules let you draw virtual lines or zones in the camera's field of view. When a person or vehicle crosses a tripwire or enters a defined area, the camera flags the event separately from general motion - reducing alert noise on busy sites.

Built-In Two-Way Audio

With 1 audio input and 1 audio output onboard, this camera supports two-way communication via a compatible NVR or VMS. Useful for gate intercoms, delivery areas, or staff communication points where pulling additional cable is not practical.

H.265+ Compression and Local SD Storage

Smart H.265+ reduces bandwidth and storage consumption versus standard H.264 while maintaining image quality. A Micro SD slot supports up to 256GB for edge recording - giving continuity if the network link to the NVR is temporarily lost.

WDR and Image Correction

Wide Dynamic Range manages scenes with strong backlighting - such as a gate camera facing a bright sky. HLC, BLC, and 3D DNR are also included for high-contrast or low-light scenarios where basic sensor performance alone would produce washed-out or noisy footage.

Who Buys This Model

  • Small commercial operators: Retail shops, trade businesses, and workshops that need a weatherproof outdoor camera covering a car park or rear lane, where the 80m IR range and IP67 rating handle the exposure without extra infrastructure.
  • Residential estate and strata managers: Sites with shared driveways, gates, or visitor car parks where 8MP resolution provides the detail to review incidents and the IVS intrusion rules help filter after-hours alerts.
  • School and childcare facility managers: Perimeter and car park monitoring where two-way audio at entry points adds a communication layer without additional intercom hardware on straightforward drop-off areas.
  • Warehouse and logistics operators: Loading dock approaches and yard entries where a fixed wide-angle 3.6mm lens covers the full vehicle entry zone and the alarm output can trigger a local siren or gate relay.
  • Security installers specifying PoE IP systems: Integrators building out Dahua NVR-based systems who need a cost-effective 8MP bullet that fits standard PoE switches and records locally as a failsafe.

Honest Assessment

The DH-IPC-HFW2831TP-AS-0360B-S2 delivers a solid feature set at the 8MP bullet tier - the 80m IR range is genuinely useful for long approaches, H.265+ keeps storage consumption manageable, and having both alarm I/O and audio I/O built in gives installers meaningful flexibility without reaching for additional hardware. The IVS rules work well for straightforward boundary detection on sites with controlled movement patterns. Where this camera has limits: the 3.6mm fixed lens is not adjustable, so if the required field of view does not match that angle, a varifocal bullet model is the practical alternative. Vandal resistance should be noted - IK10 is listed as optional rather than standard on this variant, so for installations where the camera is within reach and physical attack is a concern, confirming the rating with the supplied Security Australia listing before purchase is recommended. This is not a PTZ or multi-sensor unit, so coverage of wide or multi-directional areas will require multiple camera positions.

Before You Buy

Lens Angle is Fixed at 3.6mm: The 3.6mm focal length gives a wide field of view suited to gate entries, driveways, and open yard areas at close to mid-range. If your installation requires a narrower angle to reach across a long car park or to zoom in on a specific zone - such as a till area or a machine bay from distance - a varifocal bullet with a 2.7-13.5mm or 3.6-11mm motorised lens will serve the purpose better. Confirm the required angle matches 3.6mm before ordering.

IK10 Rating is Optional on This Variant: The product spec notes IK10 vandal resistance as optional rather than standard. If the camera will be mounted at low height - under 3m - or in a location where tampering is a realistic risk, verify with your supplier whether this variant includes the IK10-rated housing or whether a confirmed IK10 dome model better suits the position.

Quick Fit Check

  • Good match if: You are covering a driveway, car park entry, or external approach where 80m IR night vision and 8MP resolution are the priority and the fixed 3.6mm wide angle suits the field of view required.
  • Good match if: Your installation needs built-in audio and alarm I/O on the camera itself - the onboard 1-in/1-out for both audio and alarms removes the need for a separate audio device or relay at the install point.
  • You may need a different model if: Your site requires PTZ tracking, multi-directional coverage, or a motorised varifocal lens to dial in a precise angle after installation - a PTZ or varifocal bullet type from the range at securityaustralia.com.au will be the more appropriate fit.

Real-World Scenarios

Unlit Car Park Entry

A small office complex has no external lighting at the basement ramp. The 80m IR range covers the full vehicle approach without supplementary lighting, and 8MP resolution gives enough detail to review vehicle registration plates in recorded footage.

Warehouse Loading Dock

A logistics site needs to detect unauthorised foot traffic entering the loading bay after hours. An IVS intrusion zone is drawn across the bay entrance, and the alarm output triggers an on-site siren directly from the camera without requiring NVR processing.

School Drop-Off Zone

A primary school mounts the camera at the front gate entry. The built-in audio output allows staff to communicate with parents or visitors from the office via a compatible NVR interface, removing the need for a separate intercom at a low-traffic pedestrian entry.

Network Interruption Continuity

A retail site with an unreliable internet connection installs a 256GB Micro SD card in the camera. If the NVR network link drops, footage continues recording locally and syncs when connectivity is restored - ensuring no gaps during business hours.

Bright Outdoor Backlight

A driveway camera faces west and deals with strong afternoon sun behind vehicles. WDR and HLC manage the high-contrast scene, keeping the vehicle and driver visible in frame even when direct sunlight creates significant exposure variation across the image.

How It Compares

  • Choose this if: You need 8MP outdoor coverage with 80m IR, built-in two-way audio, alarm I/O, and IVS detection in a PoE bullet form factor - and the 3.6mm wide-angle view suits the installation point.
  • You may need a different model if: The install requires a flexible or adjustable angle - a varifocal bullet type with a motorised or manually adjustable lens will give more control over framing without repositioning the mount after cabling.
  • Pairs well with: A Dahua PoE NVR with matching channel resolution support, which will accept the H.265+ stream natively and reduce storage load compared to a non-Dahua recorder running standard H.265.

Common Questions

  1. Does this camera work with a standard PoE switch or does it need PoE+?

Standard PoE (IEEE 802.3af) is sufficient. This camera supports both 12V DC and standard PoE, so a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable from a standard PoE switch or PoE NVR carries both power and data. No PoE+ (802.3at) budget is required, which keeps switch selection straightforward.
  2. Will this camera record if the NVR goes offline?

Yes, provided a Micro SD card is installed. The camera supports local edge recording to a Micro SD card up to 256GB. If the NVR connection is lost, footage continues to record to the card. This is particularly relevant for remote sites or locations with network reliability concerns.
  3. How does the IVS tripwire detection differ from standard motion detection on this camera?

IVS tripwire and intrusion detection are rule-based. Standard motion detection triggers on any pixel change across the defined zone - including shadows, foliage, and headlights. IVS rules require an object to cross a defined line or enter a defined polygon, which significantly reduces false trigger rates on busy outdoor scenes. Both detection types are available simultaneously on this model.
  4. Does this camera support two-way audio or is it listen-only?

Yes, two-way audio is supported. The camera has both audio input and audio output onboard - 1 in and 1 out. This means a compatible NVR or VMS can both receive audio from the camera location and send audio back through the speaker, enabling communication from the monitoring point to the camera's install location.
  5. What does H.265+ compression actually do to storage requirements compared to standard H.265?

H.265+ is Dahua's smart codec implementation that analyses scene complexity and reduces the bit rate during low-activity periods while maintaining image quality during motion events. In practical terms, a camera running H.265+ on an outdoor scene with intermittent activity will use significantly less storage than the same camera running standard H.265 at a fixed bit rate - the reduction varies by scene but is a meaningful factor in hard drive sizing for multi-camera NVR installations. Security Australia stocks compatible Dahua NVRs that decode H.265+ natively without transcoding overhead.
  6. Is the 3.6mm lens wide enough to cover a standard driveway or gate entry in a single shot?

Yes, in most standard residential and light commercial driveway scenarios. A 3.6mm lens on a 1/2.7" sensor produces a wide horizontal field of view suited to gate entries, vehicle approaches, and open yard areas monitored from an eave or wall position. Where the install point is set back significantly from the target area - such as mounting at 8-10m height and needing to read a number plate at the far end of the car park - a longer focal length or varifocal lens would provide a more useful framing.
  7. Is the IK10 vandal rating standard on this variant?

No. The IK10 impact protection rating is listed as optional for this model, not standard. If the camera will be mounted at a height where it can be physically reached and the risk of tampering is a concern, confirm whether the supplied unit includes the IK10 housing variant before installation, or consider a confirmed IK10-rated dome camera type for that specific position.
