to Reset Passwords on Hikvision NVRs and IP Cameras
If you need to reset the passwords for your Hikvision NVR or IP cameras, follow these steps. This process involves contacting Hikvision tech support for assistance, so make sure to keep in mind their operating hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
Important Note:
Before starting, ensure that you have the SADP tool running on your computer. Remember that Hikvision tech support may take up to 2 hours to respond, and if you reach out after 3 PM, you might not receive a response until the next business day.
Option 1: Resetting Password on Hikvision NVR
-
Download the SADP Tool:
- Get the SADP tool from Hikvision's website. There are versions available for PC (SADP Version 3) and MacOS (SADP V1).
-
Connect to Your NVR:
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer directly to the NVR.
-
Launch SADP Tool:
- Open the SADP tool, locate your NVR, and select "Forgotten Password."
-
Email the XML File:
- Email the XML file (not CSV) along with the full serial number (as shown in SADP) to securitywholesalers.com.au.
- Ensure you send it before 2 PM on a business day to receive a reset code the same day.
-
Keep SADP Running:
- Do not turn off the SADP tool or disconnect devices during this process. A power loss or network disconnection may require regenerating the files.
-
Apply Reset Code:
- Once you receive the reset XML file from Hikvision, import it back into the SADP tool to reset your password.
Option 2: Resetting Password on Hikvision Cameras
-
Download the SADP Tool:
- Similar to the NVR process, download the SADP tool from Hikvision’s website.
-
Connect to Your Camera:
- Connect an Ethernet cable from your PC directly to the camera port on your NVR (unplug one camera if needed).
-
Open SADP Tool:
- Start the SADP tool, find the camera you want to reset, and select "Forgotten Password."
-
Email Relevant Information:
- Send the XML file(s) and the full serial number to securitywholesalers.com.au, ensuring you do this before 2 PM to expedite the response.
-
Maintain Connection:
- Keep all devices powered on and connected as interruptions will require the regeneration of files.
-
Use Reset Code:
- Once the reset XML file is received from Hikvision, import it into the SADP tool to reset your camera's password.
Alternative Method for Cameras with a Reset Button
For cameras that have a reset button located under the SD card slot:
- Press and Hold Reset: While the camera is powered on, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
- Power Cycle: Turn off the camera (without releasing the reset button), and after another 30 seconds, power it back on while still holding the button.
- Final Reset: Continue to hold the reset button for a final 30 seconds, then release it.
This method essentially involves holding the reset button for a total of 90 seconds while cycling power.
